Right on! My leg training is so much better with activation exercises. I'll start with hip thrusts, glute band abduction, extensions, then abduction and adduction machine. Everything is warm going into the working sets. At 45 preventative maintenance has kept me going strong.
@@Mr.ThumbsUp. after about a ten minute warm up from this activation exercises. I'm warm, pre workout kicks, and muscles are full and ready for the working sets.
As a relatively new lifter I have gained a lot of knowledge and tips from watching your videos. When really new lifters ask me for tips or help or whatever, I always give credit and tell them to watch you. Love you Mike
Being overall stronger does help in sports. I’m 6 foot 6, was a pitcher. I was 180 lbs when I finished high school. Never lifted. Started lifting, got to 6’6”, 210 (still scrawny), but having a base of strength helped my bat speed and fastball velocity more than anything. Diminishing returns though. Getting more strong wouldn’t mean more bat speed and more velocity. Getting the base helps tremendously IMO
Love the content, been training consistently for 3 years and June and following your channel has helped me rethink training and the results speak for themselves. Thank you so much, much love from Tulsa, Oklahoma 💪🏿
I’m quite tall at 6’ 4” and my lunges resemble a duck sliding on ice. Never crossed my mind to do the split-squat style you showed. Big thank you. Yet again your advice is golden.
Hey Mike, don't stress the replacement. I have had 2. The first was a standard replacement and the Dr. said I would be able to return to lifting. Unfortunately it was a teaching hospital and the surgeon who did the surgery was a student and screwed up the surgery causing me to have to have a 2nd replacement. The second is a reverse and while I have great range of motion and no pain, it limits any real amount of weight and some exercises. Still training hard, just had to make some adjustments. The recovery time and pain are much less with a replacement compared to the original labrum and rotator cuff surgery. recovery time is also shorter. Thanks
Heard you comment on your shoulder was curious to exactly what was wrong. I just had my shoulder surgically repaired. I tore my supraspinatus and subscapular rotator cuff and tore my labrum from 2:00 to 10:00 right now I'm 4 months post-surgery no pain able to lift 20 lb dumbbells right now
I remember when I admitted I there was some utility in bands. It’s OK, it gets better. Lol. I love benchpress. I admit it feeds my ego even though no else sees me. I’m pushing 50 and it’s one of the few exercise I can still go heavy on. I gave up heavy squats last year and now I only half-rack deadlifts. I go by felt intensity these days. I still have a plan when I lift, but I just enjoy it now. I’m thankful people still ask me how much I bench. That’s enough to keep my happy. I never tell them a number anymore.
Man this was a great video I’m 6’1 and really needed some perspective on Legs. In my college gym it’s so easy to want to be like everybody else and be strong and big… but for what? Id rather be mobile, flexible and can never have to do another trip to get groceries! 😂
Mike I really appreciate you and your Chanel I'm learning alot on what I've been doing wrong thanks for your valuable but priceless knowledge keep up the great content and the energy 💯
Haha. Classic advice!! Eat tonnes of food, look good, lift heavy, be lazy. Gold. We used to say dont stand if you can sit, dont sit if you can lay down and if you can lay down you mite as well take a nap. Then eat
I remember about 5 years ago, a lot of youtubers said: If you want to build muscles, you need to do the 6 compound movements. Everything else is just good for warm ups or finishing sets.
Compound movements are still the best if you are natural. If you are roided out, it DOESN'T MATTER. Train hard enough, eat enough, you will grow, drugs work. Not putting down people on gear, I am on gear, but let's be real here, go try building the most amount of muscle with machines and activations naturally , have yet to see it happen. - some people claim they have, but they also look like shit even for a natural so hey.
@@shaolinhabibithey are great but not necessary if you’re someone who can’t do them anymore. As long as you tear the muscle and repair it you will grow. Taking away squats and deadlifts doesn’t make it impossible to grow. Or even benching. Imo
I honestly don't do lunges. Blind in one eye, flat footed, leg length discrepancy. Perfect cocktail to avoid doing them. Like you would say Mike, there's other shit you can do.
Man, @14:30 I would love you to have a conversation with Mark Rippetoe. His dogmatic approach within starting strength and the community he created is something else. I appreciate the candor! Edit - check out starting strength - he says this shit all the time.
They used to rate rap albums off of mics, so like 🎤🎤🎤🎤 if an album was pretty good. Mike could rate videos with "Mike's" and it's just pictures of Mike's face 😂
Mike what's up with them Vivobarefoot shoes. Do you just use them on your leg days? I know the video is old but good technique is what you always preaching. Do they help?
Hey Mike hw do I get one of those shirts.? I would like to order the one w/ I take is your face in the back of the shirt 😃💪🏽 cn u pls send me the link.? Or wats your email.? Thanks 😊
I like most of what Mike says, but slagging off movement gurus when his banded walks and squats resemble that of a 75 yr old makes one pause for thought.
