- So, this is my 3rd and Final rather historical Crossing that I decided to tour on my Lansing Day trip. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to catch any trains today, but hey. At least I got to check out some awesome pieces of railroad history while I was at it
So, I knew that this crossing on the old J&L shortline (Ex-Conrail shortline) was special from the start. When I seen the griswold equipment, I knew I had to check it out for myself In person. Enjoy folks Развлечения
CORRECTION: I just found out that this Line is not actually abandoned. It's just in very poor shape, and J&L Rail company do in fact send locos down this shortline every now and then, and the crossing signals that I reviewed in this vid actually still function, which is surprising. So yea, I apologize for the minor mistakes as I though that this line was abandoned, which I thought at first it was, since the tracks looked like that they dont seem to go anywhere, lol
Here’s a pro tip; Look at the rails. If they’re shiny, then they’re on service. If rusty, then it’s probably abandoned.
@@AtlanticCoastRailfanner True, but then again I've been told that J&L Railroad is on a very tight budget when it comes to maintaining the line, so at first it was kinda hard to tell if was in service or not without talking to anyone who knows about Lansings rail history completely
@@Damon810Railfan It is used on occasion for a company or two near the Washington Street Crossing. There are other companies that want to have the option of returning to rail if needed. They've tried to abandon it but been told they can't.
Griswold went through a bunch of mergers any buyouts. They merged with Railroad Accessories Company (RACO) in 1964. In 1971, RACO merged with Marquardt Industrial Products and changed their name to Safetran. Safetran would be then be acquired by Ivensys Rail Group. The rail division of Ivensys would later merge with Siemens and the rest of Ivensys (non-rail assets) were taken over by Schneider Electric.
Man cool looking griswold crossing setup, I’ve only seen one crossing like it
I'm probably going go here if not it be at start of 2022
Great discovery maybe they should name this Crossing after Clark Griswold from National Lampoon's Christmas vacation lol 😆😆
AND NO THIS LINE IS NOT THE GTW LINE THIS IS THE LMS LINE OF ADBF AKA JAIL RR
REMINDER THE CROSSING AINT ABANDONED ITS STILL USED AOT ITS JUST NOT OFTEN

Those tracks are still intact...they did not rip them out....I am from Lansing Michigan.
Like I said in the pinned comment, I later realized all of that.

yes I know that now
GT never owned that line
yea I figured, but I meant to say that GT did run on that line a few times before
"Lucky's", across the street, formerly "Frenchies" used to serve great Mexican food.
The area across from that was the home of the REO factory.
