The absolute key with bibs, in my opinion, isn’t necessarily the ‘quality’ of them, but FIT. I’ve got expensive bibs which fit horribly, and I regularly wear my DHB bibs, which fit perfectly.
@@jameslee-pevenhull5087 Disagree, pulling the pinch off the waist is what it is all about for me and love bibs, super comfy with right fit. Thighs are a challenge more increasingly as I age, 51, and have longer muscles vs bulkier muscles so thigh grips are increasingly important to me.
Really like the personable/honest feel of your videos. It feels like it's about ordinary cycling rather than about a brand, personality or elite group. 😊👍
I do lots of long distance rides. I finally bit the bullet and got some higher quality bibs over the last 18 months. I always waited for clearance sales so the monetary hits weren't quite so bad as the regular retail prices. Combined with a saddle that (finally) really suits me, my riding comfort is so much better than before. I have Endura, Rab and Castelli bibs now. The first two are very good, but the Progetto II chamois in the Castelli is amazing for day after day after day riding. I now think that having good bibs and a saddle that suits you, makes all other cycling merchandise of secondary importance. I agree with the other post in this thread, you really do have a great down-to-earth easygoing style - keep up the great posts. Ha ha, I didn't even realize that this post was a year old. Showed up on RUclips today, but your thoughts still hold true.
Thanks for sharing Katie! I would be interested to see an overview of the different seat pad shapes that bibs come with. I think Endura has multilple pad shapes & sizes and lots of chafing can be avoided with a pad that suits the rider best. Funny enough my favourite bibs are women's bibs from Endura. Mainly because the pad shape.
I swear by rapha bibs as they just fit me really well, and the pad fits me perfectly. My adventure shorts are perfect. Mesh pockets on the legs work great for my phone or snacks. I have tried cheap bibs and are okay, I have tried other expensive shorts too, and it’s all about the fit for the individual. Very much like a saddle
These were my fist bibs actually! The main attraction was the sustainability and price (student budget). To be honest, apart from sausage thighs (so glad it's not just me!) and the side part of chamois being thin, they worked pretty well for 1.5 years. But then they started to rub like crazy. Got a pair of the cheapest DHB bit later and hated them at first, but then I gained bit of weight and suddenly they started fitting me perfect and I enjoy them ever since for 1-2h rides. So for me fit comes first, but there's a big difference between the low and mid range (never had the super fancy ones so can't comment). Thank you for the video!
I agree with the castelli copy branding…i thought it before you even said it….however 30 odd quid is great value if your starting out and not sure about investing more cash…especially if you’ve maybe just also bought a bike…I have some x tiger stuff that I thought was great value and a decent quality and fit. …Xl castelli fits me perfectly though their sizing is small too…I’m not extra large…and I use mostly that now …though I do have some tights and shorts from Decathalon too ..the bib shorts I actually wore today….only 25 miles though not a ton 👏…The dhb flashlight bib shorts and tights are really great and I have em both. Great wee video…thanks ❤
Got some Planet X Pro-Line 365X Bib Shorts, two for £30, have used one pair for a 111 mile ride and was very impressed with them. Also got their Carnac Sortie shoes. I have to keep to a budget cycling but it performs well enough, can keep up with my clubmates and set new PR's.
I love that you're reviewing lower cost kit. I know you didn't ask for suggestions, so forgive my pushiness. But on the US Amazon Store the best selling cycling kit is from a brand called Sponeed. (I swear on the Bible I have no affiliation with this company!). I have several pairs of their shorts and bibs and feel like they are an awesome value. They are not as cheap as £12. More like £30-£40. But your RUclips community may appreciate hearing your impressions of the Sponeed brand and whether you agree with its reputation as a "Best Value" brand. Keep up the great work! 👏👏👏
I'm Chinese, I am supposed to have many corner cutting choices when shopping for entry level stuff, but after many comparison and unpleasant shopping, I simply go to decathlon for these things without searching on internet.
Cycling ✅ Clothes try on ✅ Rain✅ I like watching people suffer in the rain from the comfort of my cozy home. Bottom close ups ✅ Near perfect content 😃👍 Always wondered if sun dried was any good as the designs are decent but can’t be great kit for the price. Very useful review.
Wow! Katie! Thanks for enduring this torture for the greater good! Sizing over the internet has been a crazy ordeal! These kits are so "tight" that when their not a good fit, it's annoying. Those gloves looked extra annoying. I like "The Black Bibs" brand. 40-80 bucks USD. It's very troubling finding good stuff under 40USD. It's just so random. Sometimes tho DHB and REI has good stuff but then next season they don't make it anymore or they change it and boom, doesn't fit right anymore. That's why a cyclist i know has like 10 of the same kit because it fits and he doesn't want to risk it anymore. While I get bored of the same kit, I think a perfect fit trumps fashion lol.
Hi Katie, majority of gear I use is FDX, not sure if you have ever tried it. They are usually cheaper than the other top named brands but I find the quality is quite good and the sizing is also good. I like their shorts with side pockets. Thanks for your review on this video.👍🏻🚴🏻♂️
I also have a pair of FDX cargo bibs and I really love them and agree they're a half decent brand. They are Chinese though and as Katie found the fit isn't exactly Castelli perfect and I find that you do have to order a size above, but they do seem to produce half decent, quality mid price range of products. Maybe KK might want to check them out sometime 🤔
I came across FDX when I was shopping for bibs on ebay this spring. Although they do have some very inexpensive models, I decided to pay a little more for the bibs that have leg pockets on them. The fit is amazing! The pockets work great. I have zero regrets with my purchase, and would be happy to buy from them again.
Yep winter kit review would be nice, like are there any gloves and socks that keep warm in wet wintery weather? I've tried seal skins were OK. Are overshoes worth it or are you better with winter shoes?
For gloves I use my neoprene white water kayaking gloves if it's wet and not freezing. Below freezing I simply use decent lighter high quality ski gloves. For my feet, Endura or Showers Pass waterproof socks really help in cold wet weather as well as in sub-zero (centigrade).
I think SD are quite a good make, the prices are on offer with amazon and are good. They do a couple of ranges and the PRO range, I have had for a couple of years, in my opinion it is quite premium stuff and the pad is quite well designed, its not just a pad of foam. Also the jersey is definitely a summer weight. Fit is pretty good for me, so it remains in my top choice of 'good' cycle clothing. I agree ultimately its the fit of bibs that is important. I thought pads had to have gel in, but thats not necessarily so, I've learnt.
I love the way the font, logo and colours are similar to Castelli! It's a bit like the 'very similar to brand labels' on food in Aldi! Even with the little red logo 😁😍❤️ (I commented before I saw the end of your video 😆)
I bought bibs over a wide price range, almost 4x, and was disappointed with the low end bibs. The low end bibs were having some failures after a few uses and ended up in the trash. I did learn to appreciate what I like in a pair of bibs and features to seek and know my price point. Just bought a new pair.
Thanks katie .. maybe you can create something like a checklist for what to evaluate in each product so that after reviewing many items you can easily see them all together..
There are some good budget brands out there. Santic which is available on amazon is awsome. Bought a pair of bibs for the bike in the garage but they are my go to.
Nice video as always Katie, My suggestion would be to go for the brands that are the Ultra High End products. The ones that are marketed as top of the line stuff. The very least budget friendly option but where it is all about maximum performance and maximum comfort on the bike. The term "Budget-Friendly" should be nowhere near the advertising campaigns. And test the kit in some harsh conditions. Like a high performance winter kit. Will it live up to the marketing material. Just to see which brands can honestly deliver on high performance kit and which brands cut corners but still label their products as "Top of The Line".
Hi Kate, My son provides crank and frame protectors, he as a website under the the name of Cyclistick, would you think it could something that might be worth your time in reviewing some of his products? I hope you don't mind me asking... Paul
Bibs it's always the fit and decent chamois, you have tested the cheapest and you have used probably one of the most expensive Cafe Du Cyclist Audax bibs. I'd like to find a decent rain jacket that isn't boil in the bag or black if you have any suggestions.
I have been wearing Garneau bibs for years, they aren't cheap but comfortable and wear like iron.Santini and Primal are my go to jerseys.Recently,I discovered a brand Neo Pro,an Australian company, jerseys are $40 and bibs $60 ,can't beat them for the price. You get what you pay for.
The chamois sides pieces are collapsing.. not a good sign. The jersey seems pretty good. As for the gloves, I’d just cut those loops off and be done with it. Good video
How about trying some Carnac or PlanetX own brand kit? I have some of their bibs which are reasonably comfortable for a few hours, although I tend to use more expensive bibs for long rides (Le Col or Lusso). I particularly like PlanetX padless Roubaix bib tights worn over another pair of shorts in deep winter. Also PlanetX/Carnac SPD/SPD-SL shoes have turned out to be a great fit for me.
0:25 Not enviromental friendly BUT if you think about it, can be used on a travel for Isolate your wet jersey or bibs from your dry ones... for example 2:25 I see the similarities in branding... not a fan either. I like the gloves ... have you seen Aliexpress clothes? I know some or most brands there have the problem of been ripoffs and very cheap copy of famous or recognized brands... but there are other generic kinda brands that am curious how good or bad quality and testing speaking the are, compared to the original brand like rapha or pedaled to set a few examples.
@@KatieKookaburra they reviewed better than I expected, I thought they’d be terrible. The fit seemed weirdly disproportionate though, baggy chest and tight arms.
I’ve put some mileage on sun dried bibs at my heaviest ever weight (lost over 25kg since) I thought they looked “quality” at first but since found out they are defo small fit and the padding is a bit poor. Wasn’t sure if it was because I was too heavy but sort of relived it wasn’t just me!
Biggest issue is getting the proper fit when ordering online because everyone is built differently. I ordered three different bibs from three different brands and only one fit me properly. I sent the two back and ordered two more of the one that fit. My biggest gripe of bibs is the fact that the elastic strands degrade on most after just two years of riding and you end up with that embarrassing top of the crack see-thru....lol
Hi Katie good video l always use bib knicks for years there always alittle tight but good throw them mittens away for the money alright don't forget Katie today the women's road race today Saturday the men's Sunday the worlds should be good take care
So Katie, I dug out the older cheap bib shorts and wore them on a 23 mile ride with 2300ft of climbing today. Haven’t worn them in ages and I must admit they weren’t very comfortable! My last ride was in the top of the range ones and they were superb👍🏽 For clarity I have been a brand ambassador for Sundried for several years and so have plenty of their kit. In general, for the price you pay it’s pretty good kit (I end up getting a great discount) and many friends have used my discount code and been happy with the kit for what they paid! I suspect the stuff on Amazon is old stock or slight 2nd🤔 I like that they are ethical etc too.
FDX aka ( FOX copy ) is an ok budget brand. They cost more than the Sundried ones unfortunately. Their fit are tight- ish as well seems like most of these brands are designed for Aisian markets and the sizing reflects that fact however tho if you check their size charts and size up/ down to your size you can find a reasonable fit. Their jerseys/ jackets are ok and the three pockets are separate ( unlike dub that give you a dummy three pocket design but turns out to be one long pass through thing! ). Back to the FDX the bibs they only niggle I have with them is the leg gripers- although they are soft and coloured to the jersey they do dig into your leg - they defo dont move lol bit you have from time to time run your finger under them to relieve the pressure if you go out on an all day ride. The padding is way thick too .....maybe a bit too thick as I find that the side wings tend to dig into the cr***h area and does make down there feel a bit crushed ( male problems I guess).. but them niggles aside for short/ medium rides they ok.
I’d be interested to see your view of some lesser known brands that offer a good medium “core” range for the average riders. Eg Pedal Mafia from Australia etc. see how they stack up to the Rahpa and MAAPs of the world.
I have always seen this brand on Amazon, but I have never been sure about them. But thanks to your review I now know what to expect from them. Also can you review FDX products please. Great video by the way.
Hi Katie, Why not go in the other direction as well testing a set of top brand more expensive clothing. I'm thinking specifically of the Assos type brands where a pair of bib shorts cost£225-250 and a rain jacket is around £290. Both are significant investments and it would help to get an honest straight forward appraisal before any of us commit our hard earned money for this sort of kit. You tested the Amazon 'Sun Dried' £36 kit set, the other end of the spectrum is about £750 bibs, shirt and jacket, is it really that much better? As you rightly state, the comfort on the bike is made up of many factors and kit quality is a really important part but not everything I get that (bike fit, position etc) Just a suggestion. Many thanks, JS
Nose rub is an issue. I bought Halfords fiver mits as cracked hands car Valeting. The £55 ones a certain premium Anglo brand nice but 10x. Prefer feel mit less.
The additional cost of a top level chamois over a very basic one is < 5 Euro to the manufacturer. I used to sell cycling clothes to clubs, and the chamois in the shorts which we sold for about 50 Euro i saw in a 250 Euro pair of Etxe Ondo shorts. The very same one. High level stuff is a massive rip off.
Worth a go with cheaper kit just for the anticipation of the order. I've found the mid range santic brand and also the Rion brand are pretty good. My giordana bibs are just great but expensive.
I've got quite a few Sundried cycling items as it's in my price range... I've always brought it from the official website as I can usually find a 20% off voucher but never realised Amazon sold the product way cheaper 🤦♂️ I find the clothing good quality tho and will continue to use their clothing. Just a bit gutted the bib shorts are really cheap now - I paid £50 ish from memory
I’ve looked at these and pondered for short rides. I’ll be giving them a wide birth. Would love to see you review the Aldi winter kit once released. My favourite winter tights I’ve got are from there from 3 years ago. Also would love to see you review the most premium kit you can find to see how it compares to budget and mid range kit
Nice un bias review Katie as always, I've tried cheaper bibs and didn't feel comfortable, I'll stick to my Santini bibs and jerseys. It would be good to find some really good winter warm gloves that aren't bulky.
A lot of products are made in the same factory, they just have different production runs for each manufacture. You could try the shorts on inside out, at least the traffic will see you.
Chinese fit, will fit an Asian like a glove. I spotted that nugget on Amazon somewhere. Definitely worth doing these reviews, I’m still progressing and losing weight so I rely on the cheapo until I get down to a size I can fit into the Scorpion kit then I will splash out.
Is it getting colder in the UK? Have noticed that you are keeping the beenie on when I am taking the beenie off here in Australia 😮Hope you have a good wint😢, enjoy ❤😂
Check out the Canadian brand of cycling wear called Peppermint. These are manufactured by a company in Mount Tremblant Quebec Canada. My wife has a few pair of these shorts and really likes them. I’m enjoying your videos.
I have some cheaper bibs and also altura stuff, if you shop around there are great deals on premium brands, the cheap ones do work well on Shorter rides, it's pot luck on sizing though Real world reviews are great , more please, cheers
There's hardly anything cycling related that I'd buy from Amazon. Definitely not clothes. Everyone is different but I like to invest in some high quality bib shorts and tights. With that comes a high price most of the time. Le Col, Gore and Stolen Goat are what works for me. Environmentally the Le Col products come in a cardboard box with paper lining inside.
why don't you do a chart of the bibs, shirts gloves? aldi 1 these 2, then your next bib maybe 2 so these ones will move down to 3. daily rider rates motorbikes and he has charts at the end of his videos to rate the bikes he rides. you can do it with the try ons :)
I get the runny nose problem when riding, apparently there is a steroid nasal spray that helps but I’ve not looked into it much. I just let it drip and or store it on my gloves 😂
I got my wife the good ones and then a cheap one. The arm grippers she really dislikes. My wife uses canondale ladies bins and bike jersey and she agrees gloves need to be soft for nose wipes. And yes my wife’s cheapo bid her shorts got loose. But leg grippers she likes them but only thing on the cheap ones.
You very often find sizing issues with garments, not just cycling wear. One manufactures idea of medium for example can be completely different from another. Down side of buying clothes on line I guess 🤔🙄
Seems a bit hit and miss regards sizing so you have to do your research first I guess . Loving Katies fashion show though - who nees Kate Moss when we have KatieKookaburra! lol 😂
I honestly wish cycling shorts would be back in style over bibs. It was so much easier to find a pair of shorts that fit. Now the straps are too tight, or the legs end up not gripping enough.
Katie, 3 x 12 is always 36 not 32 as you showed 🙃🙃 I can't really rate the bibs, really don't like things trying to make out there something else . cut the badges off or cover them, they did really make your legs sausagy .. It's just my though but the top looked okay and I liked it for hotter summer rides. These tops do the job and especially if your just getting into cycling, you need at least 3 a week Thats ether £210[ or as high as you want to go ] or 36. The gloves were nothing special; I would look at cutting the loops off. You should wear gloves I don't get dog nose .. Do a review of Latex innertubes???? maybe just a thought It was a good honest review 👍

Please review Pearl Izumi brand and Chapeau thanks
Hi Katie good video l always use bib knicks for years there always alittle tight but good throw them mittens away for the money alright don't forget Katie today the women's road race today Saturday the men's Sunday the worlds should be good take care
Sorry Katie can't seem to get your replie
Won’t thrown anything away! I will donate and someone will find good use for them. ANY gloves are better than no gloves
@@KatieKookaburra hi watching the worlds men road race good Idea give them to someone
I’ve worn Sundried direct from the Company. The higher range bib shorts are excellent far better than the cheaper ones 👍🏽
So Katie, I dug out the older cheap bib shorts and wore them on a 23 mile ride with 2300ft of climbing today. Haven’t worn them in ages and I must admit they weren’t very comfortable!
My last ride was in the top of the range ones and they were superb👍🏽
For clarity I have been a brand ambassador for Sundried for several years and so have plenty of their kit. In general, for the price you pay it’s pretty good kit (I end up getting a great discount) and many friends have used my discount code and been happy with the kit for what they paid!
I suspect the stuff on Amazon is old stock or slight 2nd🤔
I like that they are ethical etc too.
I've found for me, the inexpensive bike clothing from Decathalon is the best, by far.
Hi Katie,
Why not go in the other direction as well testing a set of top brand more expensive clothing. As you rightly state, the comfort on the bike is made up of many factors and kit quality is a really important part but not everything I get that (bike fit, position etc)
Just a suggestion.
Many thanks,
JS
Nose rub is an issue. I bought Halfords fiver mits as cracked hands car Valeting. The £55 ones a certain premium Anglo brand nice but 10x. Prefer feel mit less.
The additional cost of a top level chamois over a very basic one is < 5 Euro to the manufacturer.
I used to sell cycling clothes to clubs, and the chamois in the shorts which we sold for about 50 Euro i saw in a 250 Euro pair of Etxe Ondo shorts. The very same one. High level stuff is a massive rip off.
I purchased a pair of Sundried shoes which are really comfortable and fit well but I do think they need to make the logo smaller.
2:45 welcome to the gun show.
Logo, colors and placement reminds me of an italian brand with a scorpio ^_^
Nooooo, really?!! 🤪
Really like the Restrap hat!!! 😊
I nicked it from an ex haha 🙈 I Love it!!!
Yeah that’s weird hey?!
I really like a brand called didoo, budget price but really nice gear and decent quality. Think they are based in Bradford.
It would be interesting to see some reviews of entry level gear sold by Decathlon & Halfords.
😂 saw the “sun dried” logo in the pouring rain
I’ve looked at these and pondered for short rides. I’ll be giving them a wide birth. Would love to see you review the Aldi winter kit once released. My favourite winter tights I’ve got are from there from 3 years ago. Also would love to see you review the most premium kit you can find to see how it compares to budget and mid range kit
Yep on it! What would say is the most expensive???
@@KatieKookaburra oh I’m not sure on that tbh. First brand that comes to mind is castelli but I bet there’s others out there that’s more premium
@@KatieKookaburra assos is up there in price
I love the colour of the chamois and I’m craving sausages now. 😘
Brilliant review as always ☺️ a have bought a few things from this brand and ok however no way doing the miles you are hugs
Nice un bias review Katie as always, I've tried cheaper bibs and didn't feel comfortable, I'll stick to my Santini bibs and jerseys. It would be good to find some really good winter warm gloves that aren't bulky.
Marigolds :)

I would recommend Didoo bib shorts and jersey, about £17 each
Is it getting colder in the UK? Have noticed that you are keeping the beenie on when I am taking the beenie off here in Australia 😮Hope you have a good wint😢, enjoy ❤😂
Ay it’s getting chilly here!!!! Enjoy the heat ☀️☀️
@@KatieKookaburra I guess I must under sufferance like a true Australian has too. Oh god why do you make us suffer?
Mooooooore😤 next up, decathlon
Check out the Canadian brand of cycling wear called Peppermint. These are manufactured by a company in Mount Tremblant Quebec Canada. My wife has a few pair of these shorts and really likes them. I’m enjoying your videos.
Yes they look awesome!!!!
I have some cheaper bibs and also altura stuff, if you shop around there are great deals on premium brands, the cheap ones do work well on Shorter rides, it's pot luck on sizing though
Real world reviews are great , more please, cheers
See you allways have your bikes inside, maby you would consiter makin a video, about how you handle your bike after a ride.
Great vids.
The leg grippers look the same as my castelli’s
They are great leg grippers
Yep top job👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎🍀
Are you shore thay are not copies ! love the vids.
They had the right label on the packaging! So not sure…
Well one thing is certain the new gear looks good on you
Awww cheers :)
Katie loads of spam flying around on your videos of late , maybe something you can chase up with RUclips. Great video as always
Fit is key as is longevity. IMHO higher quality bibs that fit keep your fit longer are worth extra money.
I believe amazon decides the prices on most items as they get bulk prices.
Cats n Dogs it don't Rain Here haha. Castelli please Sponsor This Woman!!
why don't you do a chart of the bibs, shirts gloves? aldi 1 these 2, then your next bib maybe 2 so these ones will move down to 3. daily rider rates motorbikes and he has charts at the end of his videos to rate the bikes he rides. you can do it with the try ons :)

Castelli are good, and heve a red logo
What jacket is that?
It’s the Rapha rain jacket - it needs reproofing though :)
Thanks
3:19 caption mistake -or bad maths ?
Seems a bit hit and miss regards sizing so you have to do your research first I guess . Loving Katies fashion show though - who nees Kate Moss when we have KatieKookaburra! lol 😂
You know it baby! Gimme that BLUE STEEL!! 🤨
They are a little see throw but over all they look good
they make good tomatoes for salads
I have 4 pairs of sundride bib shorts ,brilliant and you should not ride in the rain without mudguards.
Agreed no ride without mudguard. But it wasn’t forecast to rain!!! :(
Katie if I knew what telegram was I would reply, but no thanks I don’t want your used wet cycling shorts Thankyou.I hope you take this in good humour.
Totally agree about runny noses 👃
Soggy nose club! 🐶
Glove hooks? You were going to say get on your wick wasn't you?? :) :) Not a great fit with the jersey even if not too small.
Hahaha I was going to say wires hahahaha
@@KatieKookaburra either way, not a bad price for cycling gear on a budget, buy loads of my stuff from Aldi's
I honestly wish cycling shorts would be back in style over bibs. It was so much easier to find a pair of shorts that fit. Now the straps are too tight, or the legs end up not gripping enough.
Mike wear whatever you feel comfy in!!! :)
Def looks like castelli
Katie,
3 x 12 is always 36 not 32 as you showed 🙃🙃
I can't really rate the bibs, really don't like things trying to make out there something else . cut the badges off or cover them, they did really make your legs sausagy ..
It's just my though but the top looked okay and I liked it for hotter summer rides.
These tops do the job and especially if your just getting into cycling, you need at least 3 a week
Thats ether £210[ or as high as you want to go ] or 36.
The gloves were nothing special; I would look at cutting the loops off.
You should wear gloves
I don't get dog nose ..
Do a review of Latex innertubes???? maybe just a thought
It was a good honest review
👍
3:18: £12 + £12 + £12 = £32.
