Carly Simon had breast cancer the same time I did-in 2000-2001. The Album "The Bedroom Tapes" came out of that-and helped me t and from all my appointments. She is a private person, obviously. However, if the cancer has returned, nothing has been made of it-she did acknowledge it the first time. I would think she'd do the same-in her own time. Her children, husband, friends would protect her from the hoards of fans-true blue ones- and then the idiot chaser's of sorrow. Please don't say that her cancer is active and she doe not have long unless you are a family member, or close friend-which seems doubtful-because, I repeat, they will shield her. Please, do not do that. Hoping this gets through, I thank you in advance. Terri--who had it then and then my daughter died with cancer-she was with us just 4 years ago after beating it...+ 5 brain tumors before that-benign but deadly. You may have not a clue what a sentence like you wrote can do...please think again. Jenna Rose's Mother. And Carly admirer.
Just reading about the loss of Lucy and Joanna Simon...such a terrible blow within two days. I hope Carly finds that time swiftly heals the worst of the pain.
I’m in the midst of listening to “Boys in the Trees” audio book narrated by Carly herself. Just finished Chapter 9 when she mentions the song. I love peaking into a classic video of her and Lucy. R.I.P. to Joey (Joanna) and Lucy Simon. 2 very lovely, talented ladies that passed last week. My heart goes out to sweet Carly. I can’t fathom losing both of my older sisters within a day of each other. 😢
Just read "boys in the Trees" a memoir of Carly's childhood. She mentions this song and this time period early in her career. This video is so awesome.
Wow, exactly. I’m in the midst of listening to the audio book narrated by Carly herself. Just finished Chapter 9 and I love peaking into a classic video of her and Lucy. The song has truly come to life in the clip. R.I.P. to Joey (Joanna) and Lucy Simon. 2 very lovely, talented ladies that passed last week. My heart goes out to sweet Carly. I can’t fathom losing both of my older sisters within a day of each other. 😢❤
My all time favorite childhood story. Was read to me by my gram frequently! It was originally written and published in March of 1889 by Eugene Fields. They have made it magical with their voices! Could listen over and over! Thanks ladies!
Beautiful harmonies together Grew up listening to their album “The Simon Sisters, Winkin’ Blinkin’ and Nod” Parents of mine had the album and now I have the CD version
While they sing it differently, it's wonderful to hear this song that I've sung so often in my life. I'd forgotten it was a thing until I read it in Lucy's obituary in the SF Chronicle today.
Thank you Carly. This was the second song I learned on guitar from others, but never actually heard it (back in the day-never mind details) so now RUclips answers a lifelong gap. Gratitude.
Look for this sung by The Big 3. The "girl" in the group is Cass Elliott. They sing it more slowly, which is better for a lullaby. But the Simon Sisters' voices do blend beautifully.
Wonder where this was recorded. On this recording Carly's voice is prominent, but on the record Lucy's voice was more prominent and it was at a faster tempo. Don't know what it all means, but it's a neat song either way.
Carly and Lucy met Cass Elliot and her folk group "The Big Three" at the bitter end and they exchanged this song which Cass and the Big Three recorded and released.
@@ts-eu6mp Good grief it was a simple observation... nothing more. If Lucy wanted to get ripped and enjoy jamming with little sis then more power to her. Doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me however was(along with Joanna just the day before!) her untimely death from cancer. "Sadist diploma" 🤔🤔
Perhaps, but just try to fingerpick that precisely and sing such accurate harmonies when you're high. Maybe she was visualizing and feeling the beautiful images she was singing about.
I do not know where the "sexual assault" information came from. If, however, it turns out to be true, then I applaud my heart out for her for living her life, healing and going forward. What bravery and courage and inspiration we can learn. If not true and you 100% know that, somehow, and she hasn't['t spoken of it- then why bring that up? If she has spoken about a situation in her life about the I do not know of it. I suppose I can check it out-see if it's in the book or somewhere. By the way, sexual assault survivor's get ALL the leeway they need, fr as long as they need it and a truly great therapist who has that as a specialty. I admire the phrase, "kept stuff to herself SHE SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAD TO KNOW." That shows a crucial understanding. Thank you. Terri
RIP Lucy and Joanna Simon. The 3 Simon Sisters: talented, strong, graceful, beautiful.
Carly won't be far behind

RIP Lucy Simon and sister Joanna (both just died, one day apart). What a supremely talented trio of sisters!
Thanks for mentioning this. I had not known that both were gone and one day apart too.

So sorry for your loss, Carley.

This song takes me back to my childhood. A beautiful thing to listen to. Just amazing. Thanks for posting this old bedtime song.
carly was a star from the start and such a beauty
Carly is more striking.
I never knew of Lucy. Such a beautiful girl. Angel voices.
This was recorded at The Bitter End club, NYC. There was a short-lived Bitter End TV show of which this was taken from.
👀 Carly’s eyes omg The best gift from God honestly !

I had te Simon Sisters album back in the 60's. I lost it somehow, but always yearned to hear Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod again. Thanks so much!!
Hi Janet, thanks for the add!
MY all-time favourite poem
What a magical song !
Thanks for posting. Listened to them back in 1964 as a college freshman. Where has the time gone?
and now it has been ten more... 10/17/24 609am
Also reading the book and checking out some of the songs I have never heard❤
This just gives me goosebumps !
Wonderful performance. Flawless.
never heard this before. ever. awesome. Lucy was adorable!
Forever in the recesses of my mind.
And in the middle, the forefront and running all through my head/heart/soul/body, too! Thanks, P. Pino :) Terri
I used to listen to this all of the time when I was little. Love it!
Sang this to my boys when they were babies.
While they sing it differently, it's wonderful to hear this song that I've sung so often in my life. I'd forgotten it was a thing until I read it in Lucy's obituary in the SF Chronicle today.
Absolutely awesome!
Amazingly Talented!
i love this song
Love the song. Carly you're gorgeous.
Boy , Carly can sing!!!!
My mom sang this too m and there was a Golden Book 🌠

nice tune to the poem by Eugene Field.
hermosa cancion y una carly simon magnifica!
RIP, with much music where ever you are.
the close captioning has bizarre lyrics. Not once does it say Winkin' Blinkin' and NOD.
I know this song because I sung it in 5th grade chorus this year
the two sisters sound beautiful together
Dear God please bring back Folk Music
Thank you, David
I didn't know this was a "singing"

love this
Only decent reason to downtick this is to express melancholy that this was so very very long ago. Lovely women, lovely time for music.
Please see below the "discussion" between 2 people about how "Carly won't be far behind." Show some mercy, man! Terri, who means it!!!
Carly and Lucy met Cass Elliot and her folk group "The Big Three" at the bitter end and they exchanged this song which Cass and the Big Three recorded and released.
good stuff,for sure.
Carly Simon his a fantastic woman; and I always thought that I knew a guy that thought the song was about him
😘
💛💛
LOVE!
Real music
Lucy stays behind, Carly takes advantage and full control.
my mother used to sing this to me at bedtime
My mom sang this to me back in the 1950's.
❤
Not a thing that i dont love about this !
Whatever happened to Lucy Simon?
Retired.
world wide web girls wink blink and nod have two sisters in the line up and are named after the poam
Trivia Question: Which Simon sister is in the R&R Hall of Fame? If you don't know you shouldn't be here. lol
You can't hear the melody! Carly is singing the base harmony too loud!
Are they singing about our secretary of state?
Been wondering that myself! 😉
You could not be more out of line here if you broad jumped from where another mean person through you! Shame on you-Terri
And you must be the one who threw her! Shame. I call bs and lowly thoughts and words on you both. Give it a rest and quit it, please- just stop. Terri
When and where was this video recorded ?
+Michel Tanguay It was recorded Hmmm, well about 2 days ago, in my yard
Can't help but love this response :)! Terri
When
Jeez Carly was such a babe! She could have stuttered all she liked to me, I'd have loved her stuttering!
Check out Lucy's eyes lol ... high as a kite!!
Good Grief. Even if she was, so what? What did your sadist diploma come with--a refresher course in saying dumb-ass things? Terri

Stop, I ask you, please just stop it. No call for this-it is a poor excuse for real communication. Terri
I like Carly Simon, but this is horrible
Too bad she wrote "boys in the trees. " She should have kept that stuff to herself.
Sexual assault victims get some leeway. She kept stuff to herself that she should never have had to know.
