I had a Genesis when I was a kid... when you only have a handful of games and one of them is Sonic 2, this is a game you eventually end up playing no matter how much you love Tails.

Seems rather harsh to get an instant Game Over whenever you die, though. Why not just have the player make use of their lives like usual? Also, what happens if you're super speedy and beat a level via the normal goal within 30 seconds? (This is possible in Emerald Hill Zone Act 1 at the very least.) Does the game kill you for that, or do you just advance to the next level like normal? And, what happens if you hit a checkpoint with at least 50 rings and enter a bonus stage (if that's still possible in this hack)?
tbh i think you shouldn't be able to defeat mecha sonic... but as we all know you are just too good! No rom-hack maker can handle your amount of skill! (totally not joking btw) love you man and keep up the good content

there is a hack called Amy in sonic 1 and it's like playing Amy from sonic advance and it's different from most character hack because instead of just jumping on enemies you have to hit them with your hammer, she also has a bunch of unique things about her that make it a completely different experience.
This kinda reminds me of Super Mario 64's Green Demon Challenge where you try to collect a star (like 8 red coins) while one of the hidden 1 up mushrooms you can find chases you.
