- The city of Ghent in Belgium is one of the prettiest cities of the country, sometimes refered as the "Gem of Belgium". With its central location in Flanders it is a short train ride away from Brussels or Brugges making it an easy day trip.
We start this afternoon walk at the Ghent City Hall from where we explore the inner city. The water channels around the old town carry touists boats. We walk to the Gravensteen, the 10th-century moated castle. We walk all around the tourist area, go to the Leie river channels for a view of the fairy tale cityscape with the 15th and 16th century architecture. We also quickly check the Saint Nicholas' Church inside on our way back to the starting point.
Note: The video was uploaded as 4K60 yet only shows up on RUclips at 1080p60 max. I messages RUclips support and will see if it gets fix that at some point.
Filmed in June 2019
Camera: Osmo Pocket in 4K60
Mic: Zoom H1

Beautiful town
Beautiful video
Thank you very much !!! 👍
Nice to see so many people smiling, unlike some of your other videos. Ghent looks like a worthwhile place to visit.
Gorgeous video! Thanks!!
Pretty city and well videoed. Thank you.
Great city walk! I go to Gent town every now and then! Pretty city.
Great! Enjoyed so much.
Well made! The whistling wind towards the end was an added bonus!
Very beautiful city enjoy full ride have nice tour thanks so much 😊😊😊😄😄😄😎😎😎
Great filming , thank you for sharing
Windy day! But what a beautiful city. Very cool castle and I love the ornate roof lines of the buildings. Love seeing these as we haven't been to any of them. Very cool. Thanks - Henry
Thank you Henry. Ghent was surprisingly nice as I stopped en route to France there. Everything in Belgium is close together so it's easy to see several places in a few days.
I struggle a bit with the wind noise - all the shielding doesn't help. I may get another microphone or recorder - will see what people recommend
Wat een leuke stad. Helaas ben ik nog niet in Vlaanderen geweest. Heel mooi! Groetjes van een duitser in Spanje.
Nagyon jó!!!!
what a beautiful place
I was there a month ago, what a fabulous city ❤️
Zo heerlijk echt; dank je wel, **POPtravel*!!*

Sadly you didn't make it there. I know how you feel. We canceled an Italy trip for next Spring. Keep hope, maybe 2022!

😊
I love my Beautiful Ghent City thanks for this Video Djamel 👍
they are playing "klokke roeland" look it up, it is a famous student song, usually song by more traditionally minded students though, it celebrates the heroes of ghent,
Wereld Conference voor de deur met zijn allen lopen 👁❤👸🤴🕵️♀️👨🎨🙌👂🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Based on the number of pedestrians walking and the number of buildings all cramped together here, I'll bet you the commercial vacancy factor is over 50%. Lots of empty floors.
What another beautiful walk you took us on! The 1080HD was awesome. Not sure my PC could handle 4K. However others film it 4K and it's real slow and sketchy on my old PC. HD 1080 was perfect!
0:24 Beautiful Buildings!
2:35 Beautiful Church. So Windy! Was it a cold wind? Everyone looked chilled. Amazing for JUNE! If this cold front is like this in JUNE, wonder how chilly it gets in winter?
19:55 People were so bundle up in coats on this freezing day, but never to cold to eat outside. Made me laugh.
9:30 Was neat to see you in reflection on Locked door. Double image at 9:32 Here you are again at 54:44
Wave at us next time!
I hear so many different languages. How many do you speak, Daniel?
Just as I was thinking how clean it is everywhere, you walk us into alley where trash is left, on a windy afternoon. Haha! 18:26
At 19:42 You showed us unique buildings. All so lovely.
Loved the view of church at 31:19 and 35:37
34:17 Loved the hanging flower baskets on Leie River's railings.
Daniel, tell us, what was going on with all the CHEERS and HORN blowing via guys on that Buggy at 37:18 and 37:47 ?
38:42 Horse and carriage for tourists. I would love that!
42:00 RAIN, you Paused, then Sunny.
45:12 What Neat BIKE DECO on stairway Wall!
48:06 Loved the music by the violinist and Accordion Player.
58:09 Outside Saint Nicholas Church! Now inside 59:36 That was breathtaking. Thank you!
1:06:00 Was that guy talking to you about pictures?
Looks like a GOTHIC CHURCH 1:07:00 1:12:20 and 1:15:27
You did GREAT panning of Buildings at 1:08:15 All were so Unique.
This is a lovely town to go visit. (however bring jackets and umbrella).

It was surely windy in June yet when walking fast I always get warmed up. That day I actually came from Brussels, parked my luggage at the train station for the walk and afterwards went to Lille in France. I had tried to stay in Ghent back then yet budget accommodations were all booked out.
As for languages: Besides German I speak English OK and Spanish just enough to get along - a bit of Russian also helped me in several places which I should expand a bit.
Great catch with the rain-break at 41:30 ! I wanted to look that break up and put in the note - you found the cut first. I find such breaks actually rather good and may take a few more in the future to sit in a nice café when I see one. I'm often worried about rain either harming the camera or microphone as none are rated water resistant.
At 1:06:00 I didn't realize he talked about pictures. He could mean me my picture taking or not. I usually take photos in other directions with my right hand. I try to avoid intrusive faces and people and move along quickly enough.
I'm happy you liked that walk through Ghent. As for 4K - I still hope that RUclips fixes that issue. The missing 4K is a rare thing these days. BTW, you can always switch at the cogwheel your lowest resolution where 720p60 looks just fine. Around 40% of the viewers of the channel actually watch the videos on TV which often seems 4K
Some answers from a local:
19:55 Windy and chilly: Belgium has a maritime temperate climate. In summer it usually doesn't get super hot, and in winter it doesn't get super cold. Summer days average temperatures in the 20°C, with highs up to the 30°C. Last summer we had an unprecedented heatwave where temps hit 37-38°C, But this is super rare. In june, some days it still can get chilly and temps can be around the 15°C, especially in the morning as nights can still be quite chilly. August usually is the warmest month here. In winter temps hover around 0°C, on really cold days it can reach -5 with maybe an exceptional -10°C, but it never gets much colder than that. And yes we Belgians are champions of going outside at the tiniest bit of sunshine. The climate is very rainy here, and we get a lot of grey cloudy days. So as soon as th sun is out, the people come out. Even in winter. It might be freezing -2°C, but if it's sunny you'll find people outside, sitting on a terrace drinking a beer or a hot chocolate....
18:26 Trashy alley: First this isn't an alley, this a regular old street in the oldest part of the center. Second: Must be garbage collection day, by the looks of it paper collection day. Leaving garbage like this on the street if it isn't collection day will get you a hefty fine. It's rare to see this... But if it happens to be a windy day, then yes it can get blown everywhere, making collection very difficult...
37:18 Guys cheering and horns on "buggy". These are biking carts with a mobile bar on them. They're basically carts with barstools with bike pedals underneath, and everyone peddles to propel the buggy. It has a bar and you can drink while peddling and sightseeing around the city. You can rent these carts for parties or some other occasion. They're quite popular for stag parties, but mostly for people not from Gent or for tourists.
1:06:00 Guy talking about pictures: yes seems like this guy was annoyed at being filmed. People tend to be more carefull about their privacy, and often some people don't like to be filmed. But i do think the guy talking was a tourist himself.
1:07:00 Gothic Church. This is St. Nicolas Church. Its one of the large three churches in the center. It's also one of the "three towers" the others being the Belfry and St. Bavo's catchedral. It's one of the older churches in the center built in the 13th century. It's built in an early, more sober gothic style with romanesque influences still visible. The other church on the other side of the water (side he's filming from) is St. Michaels church, also a gothic church (late gothic style) built in the 15th century.
Hope this clarifies some of your questions!
Johan Wittens ,,, that was fabulous!! Thank you😃.
What are those window thingies on the castle wall?
Does anyone know the classical piece playing in the beginning? Thanks!
Follow your camera through the old towns of European cities Thank you very much
Hi Daniel, 9:32 can I know what camera did you use for this video? Thanks in advance.
Hi Jaroslav. I'm using a DJI Osmo Pocket as a camera. The audio is from an old Zoom H1 which I had for years and could finally use. Both devices are on a small rig and connected to a powerbank. The battery of the Osmo is lasting less than 1h at 4K60 otherwise. I sync the better audio afterwards with the video
@@poptravelorg Thank you for your response. Thank you for the beautiful tours of many places.
there's something wrong with your Skopje video; it's just blank screen without any video
Thank you for the notice. There seems to be a RUclips problem with edits. I made an edit due to a privacy complaint in one part several days ago. I reverted it to the original and now it says processing again...
I've set it as unlisted. Again, thanks for the note!
The Skopje video is back. After the rollback RUclips re-encoded it. Again, thanks for informing me!
@@poptravelorg you just made this subscriber very happy :)
When scaling up a 1080p video at 2560X1440 oh youtubes a much better picture, 1080 60/299 5819kb VS 2560X1440 60/308 15731kb
The bandwidth requirements are indeed higher and few PCs these days can handle the 2160p60. The RUclips player mostly select a good resolution for your device yet from the statistics on the channel many viewers watch the walks in a TV - probably 4K. That is why I put the note in and I hope RUclips fixes those problems. I could re-upload yet will see what happens during the next few weeks. There are also issues with other videos that I requested support with
Would you like coffee tea
I noticed in this video that use is allowed. I mean, can I download this video and upload it to my RUclips channel? If so, I want to put this video to myself. If it's possible. Thank you very much.
nice but dirty like every city in east-flanders
Dirty?
Are you blind?
Schwachkopf
brussels is dirty, (in the non culturally significant area's) ghent really is neat for as far as most cities are concerned, as are most flemish cities, wallonian cities are often more concrete industrially based and thus dirtier, but flemish touristic cities, no way (except for the overpoort, but that is due to students)
