Schwarzenegger called this his favorite movie of his, because it helped break his action hero type cast

"It's not a tumor!" Possibly Schwarzenegger's most iconic line outside of the Terminator films. Of all his movies, he's stated this is his favorite role, as it was a departure from his typical action heroes, and he also loved working with the kids.

True but the rest of the movie is good tho
The ending is pretty serious tho and it has a happy ending.
Speaking of different, Critic's impression of Arnold isn't as funny from past Arnold reviews.
Arnold is a phenomenal physical actor, and I will die defending this point.
I loved that shift in tone even when I was a kid watching this on TBS. It trusted me to handle this material on a mature level.
This feels like a Classic NC episode for some reason.

@@kyleboulanger170
Has he ever reviewed the same thing twice before?
@@pkmntrainermark8881 I don't think he's reviewed Hocus Pocus yet.
IIRC this was quite heavily censored for TV. Not only were some of the violent scenes omitted (I.E the scene where Crisp assaults the guy outside the toy shop after the guy had refused to sell him the last toy), a lot of dialogue was cut (I.E references to penises, vaginas, etc) and some of the swearing was not just simply cut but dubbed with less offensive alternatives, e.g. "Son of Bitch" was abbreviated to "S.O.B" and dubbed over. There's probably more that I'm forgetting. But I did find it shocking how much had been censored when I finally saw the the uncut version on VHS years after seeing the censored daytime TV edit.
I think the big issue was it's marketed for kids, 90% of the film is kid friendly which could cause issues for families who don't know about these scenes or lines
@@Sparklez310 Nah, 90s network censorship was a whole different level to today. I grew up in the 90s and some of the things they're allowed to get away with on TV these days is still shocking to me - not in a bad way, mind you, more in a "hell yea! How did they get away with _that?!"_
A FAMILY PICTURE. It lives! It lives!
now we just need the Child lives YAYYYYYY 😂😂
One of the best under-the-radar NC jokes. To this day whenever I find something a little too PG-13 in a kids movie, I instantly say "A FEMBLEY pickshuh" in my head.
DERE IS NO BATHROOM-Amazon to its warehouse workers
Penelope Ann Miller apparently acted like a diva and the crew disliked working with her. Peter Kent, Arnold Schwarzenegger's stunt double, decided to get back at her by giving Schwarzenegger, unbeknownst to the actor, pasta with tomato sauce made with juiced vegetables on a day when he knew Schwarzenegger and Miller would be shooting in an enclosed space. Miller had no choice but to endure Schwarzenegger's uncontrollable farting and, as an unintended consequence, Schwarzenegger had to deal with the discomfort of trying and failing to hold it all in.
Ah, the 90s…
Was she a "diva" or was she not allowing herself to be taken advantage of?

It was very useful for Doug’s old review of “The Magic Voyage”. 😂
Huh, feels like Doug is trying to play catch up with all the obvious Nostalgic films he didn't cover previously. I mean Rookie of the Year, Kindergaten Cop, The Terminator, Ghostbusters. I can't believe it's taken him THIS LONG to cover these.
You know what's even funnier? Out of all the times he's referenced Spaceballs, he's never done a video on it... :/
I’m still waiting for him to review “Titanic”, where he could express how he felt about the driftwood that Rose floats on. 😮
Most of his reviews, especially old ones, are of bad movies. Hence the slogan he remembers it so you don't have to. All these movies are considered good which is why they likely took so long.
To be fair, most of these are good films. When he started out he focused on bad/mediocre films because they're much easier to riff on, as well as fit the "caustic critic" archetype he was going for.
@@SilverHairedFreak25 Indeed. Part of the rebranding a few years ago was being able to do good and newer movies. Likely the backlog of bad movies has finally been thinned enough that NC can start doing better movies more frequently.
Or he's running out of bad nostalgic movies that are worth talking about...

The film is fine as it is, but here is how I would fix it:
Schwarzenegger is not a cop investigating a crime or after any criminals. However the child abuse moment and when he hits the dad is still in the film. He is a substitute teacher who is filling in for the woman who is his wife and them not pretending to be a couple and she is an actual teacher, Schwarzenegger’s character usually fills in for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes not the little kids and the Kindergarten class he covers is his wife’s class,
Yes it’s not a tumor

This was my first Arnold Schwarzenegger movie I watched, and as a kid I saw the edited version! It was funny, especially for school age kids!
It's funny that the unedited versions were considered appropriate for us back then... I was born in the late 80s, right when the PG rating transition really started taking effect. My parents were torn on what to allow me to watch, lol.
I didn't see this until I was fully grown, and can honestly say it's a solid flick. I think the hate is from it being torn b/w two genres by today's standards.

There was tv show that came out after the Tarzan movie called The Legend of Tarzan. It was syndicated on ABC probably Saturday Mornings but Sundays on what used to be UPN. There was an episode where Tarzan says he knows about a place underground where there are dinosaurs. Jane's father tried to steal an egg and a baby T-Rex hatched. I was in elementary school when this came out, and it was my introduction to Arnold. It's still my favorite of his movies, as it gives his character a soft side without looking fake or taking away his action hero "edge".

I don't think there is any other Schwarzenegger movie that is quoted more often on message boards than this one.

"SHUT UP!"
"Now we're having fun."
"It's not a tumor."
"They're horrible."

How so?
To quote the late great Norm MacDonald and something i'm sure Arnold Schwarzenegger might be thinking about right now is “I hate when people say “touché” after you say something funny. I don’t know what it means, but I know that I hate it.”
Clearly you don’t fence with words.
Funny story. I was watching this movie with the family a couple years ago and we decided to look up this location on the map and do Google Street view to see if we can find some of the locations. But because Google Street view is fun we look at some other photo spheres yeah there is a pretty funny one if you go across the bridge to the north and find I think it's a single photosphere at this park. We used the picture of the main guy as what do you meme picture. And then the people in the background are looking over at the person with funny faces as well like something's going on there.
A Interesting Fact: During Kimble's 'Who is my Daddy and what does he do?' questioning of the children, the Spanish-speaking girl says "My dad works at home, and he plays with me a lot."
