I totally enjoy using botanical gels, but they certainly do have a learning curve. The first one I used was Kinky Curly way back in 2008, and it took me about a month and a half to really be satisfied with how my hair looked. Now I'm able to use it and air dry without frizz or tackiness in the summer. I also feel like it was the most difficult one to work with for me, and all the rest have been a breeze to figure out. Currently, the only way I'll use one of the non-botanical gels is on top of a botanical. I find that the original As I Am leave-in works well with Kinky Curly. Another system-type botanical is Luxe; so far for me it hasn't worked well with anything else.
Thank you for this review! A much needed video. Some of the things I've sort of noticed when using botanical gels (i.e., working better with a hooded dryer), but it's so nice to see the characteristics of botanical gels and the tips that make them work all tied up together in this nice little video package. Love your videos, BTW.
Your hair always looks great! Good to hear another FL girls tip for wash and go’s in this FL humidity…so far I’m liking UFD and I Create hold together. Wet line is my jam too! I’m glad to know I have options💃🏽
The spray bottles don’t wet the hair enough. I live in a Los Angeles suburb so our weather is dry. I love Uncle Funkys Daughter Curly Magic and Kinky Curly Knot Today.
TFS wash n go queen! I’m trying to get into them myself. My hair takes FOREVER to dry with the botanical gel. I have to take breaks from the dryer lol I need to put a topper gel on the botanical gel. I’ve used Soultanicals frozen on uncle funky and KCCC. Kinky curly is not economical. 1 jar only gives me 1 full use. UFD is 3-4. Also it comes in a 32oz. So I think I’ll default to UFD curly magic, although it seizes up on my hair, still need to master it.

Definitely agree with the need to use heat to cure! Makes a world of difference.

I love the kinky curly system, used it today ☺️
Such shiny, good-smelling results each time!
This video was so clutch. I did notice I got a smoother finish with UFD gel if I diffused with medium heat. Now I know why
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽wonderful tips....I used alllll the water 💦 today and no stickiness...win win

ok thank you, i am learning english, i understand better with that@@WhatTheKink
I still dont like botanical gels lol my hair feels mushy with little to no hold
It’s all about the layering! Some of these will never be fully humidity resistant and provide long lasting hold without being layered.

Wish I watched this video before ever buying a botanical gel. The liesssss on these reviews on these gels are insane.
