I am a 74 year-old Oregon native, and this is quite simply the best videography I've ever seen. Thank you so much for capturing the essence of Depoe Bay.
Depoe Bay is such a great little town and a was a great place to be part of the Coast Guard family back in the 70’s. The Horn Restaurant used to be the Spouting Horn, named for the “geyser” that dumps salt water on cars parked along the sea wall, sometimes even across the street.
Would you by any chance have any photos or stories of my Grandpa, Captain Bill Wagner. He owned and chartered the Debbie Linn in the 70's. He became Harbor Master in his final days. They once named the town park after him too. This video brought many memories and tears to my eyes.
@@knotweedkninja8539 I hope he or someone else watching is able to provide you some information about your grandpa. You gave enough information that someone else might be able to help. Good luck, nice memories.
My dog Pearl watched your lovely video with me. While I was engrossed with the surf, Pearl kept searching for Roodle. Roodle is the love of her life! She was disappointed that he wasn't in this video . I loved this video, even though Roodle wasn't in it.
Nice job capturing the essence of Depoe Bay. I have lived in Oregon for 30 of my 60 years and have driven through Depoe Bay countless times, but you made me feel like a first time tourist watching this. Thank you!
AAAAH, Yes! We LOVE Depot Bay! We stayed at the Inn At Spanish Head @ Lincoln City and Depot Bay 49 years ago on our Honeymoon, and have been there dozens of times since. Places like the Sea Hag have been there for many years. We love it and love your channel!!! Thank you for the memories! Be blessed and be safe, you kids! Love ya!
Wow. This video moved this Grandmama to tears. What a lovely dance of editing, the music the perfect drone shots and photography and your smiles. Wow, National Geographic needs to pay attention 🙏🙏❣️ Thank you for taking us/me to such spectacular places. May God bless ❌⭕, Iris and Little One 👋🐾
We were there in July 3 years ago, neat town. Hubby and brother went out of the harbor twice. They said it's a great experience going through the narrow opening. The waves weren't that bad, but you still got rocked around. Thanks for sharing and the memories.
Spectacular drone footage, Dave! You captured all of the majesty and power of coast perfectly! I gotta' add this charming bay to our bucket list! Thank you again for sharing your advanture with us❤ Safe travels, friends❤
Absolutely spectacular!! What a cool little town. Gorgeous, gorgeous tidal display and great clam chowder too!! That was so amazing. Thanks guys!! Take care!! 🌲☃️♥️☃️🌲
Hi again…further to our previous comment….we stopped the video half way through to comment. Now we’ve seen all of it….wow again….youre drone footage is amazing. The ‘blow holes’ jets of surf and water gushing upwards look amazing…ironically, we have one of those here in Dorset on the isle of Portland, but it only gushes when there’s a storm. You were certainly lucky to get the lifeboat entering the harbour, we were so lucky to see it 12 years ago. The lifeboat then was number 47278. Can only imagine what those waves would be like during a storm especially at high tide. Fantastic video…thanks so much for sharing….we are OAPs in our seventies now, so probably won’t be making that trip again. We love America and have had some amazing times there especially in Wyoming. Safe journey guys…take care xxx Des and Shirley.
We saw both coast guards boats coming up the coast and rushed back! We barely made it in time!! By the time we parked and RAN to get into camera position, one boat had already come through and was docked. I would LOVE to be able to watch them doing drills in the surf.
I live in Lincoln City, about a 20-minute drive from Depoe Bay. What a great little town...Ainslee's taffy is the best, and the caramel corn shop just south of there is great. Some great food, sightseeing, and people. Gracie's Sea Hag was a good choice!
That blowhole was incredible. And 22:20 when Carrie got sprayed---cool! 25:00+ The ocean waves pounding the rocks...wow! On a hot day, just place a chair nearby to enjoy the refreshing seawater spray. A day at an ocean beach allows one to re-invigorate themself. Sea water is also an amazing dog wash! It refreshes and revives the skin, both for humans and dogs! For those who suffer eczema or psoriasis, sea water is curative. I once spent a few nights at a house near an ocean beach...and the gentle lapping of the ocean waves was so calming. Witnessing the power of the sea is awe-inspiring. Yet again, you folks have found a gem worth visiting. Thanks again for your lovely video...I wish I was there to enjoy it.
They are very skilled! It is incredible what they can do out there! We were SO HAPPY to catch them coming in. I would LOVE to see them out in the surf doing drills.
Absolutely spectacular!! What a cool little town. Gorgeous, gorgeous tidal display and great clam chowder too!! You really captured it all at it's finest. 😊👍 Thanks guys!! Take care!! 🌲☃️♥️☃️🌲
Such a tiny, almost sleepy little seaside town with the most breathtaking views. The drone shots were so incredible Dave, and getting to actually see the Coast Guard ship cutting into that tiny harbor was amazing. Thanks for sharing all this beauty with us. If I ever make it to Oregon, I'm going to see this in person, and have some clam chowder in a big bread bowl next to the water..
Altogether amazing!! This has got to be one of the best videos out there! The footage, drone shots, and music all came together perfectly! Y'all need medals!! Thanks so much for sharing this experience with us! Safe travels.
Carrie at the helm! Could not have asked for a more spectacular show. As you said several times and now I know why!! It was spectacular!! (Incredible?!) Thank You!!!
I had the best time; the waves were EPIC! Thanks for coming along! When I was editing this video, I was thinking we could turn it into a drinking game just by the number of times I said "AWESOME"
Semper Paramus, Dave…I’m a crusty ol’ Navy Hospital Corpsman…retired back in early 1997 as a Senior Chief. I’ve been following y’all off & on for several years. Just ran across y’all after a year or so. Glad to find ya again. You did a great job covering this interesting location. Stay safe out there. “Ol’ Scooter in East Texas…”
I know I am repeating myself, when I say you two have mastered and outdid yourself from previous videos BUT this one is outstanding. The combination of the bay from all the angels with the "king tide" and music...magnificent!
Depoe Bay is my favorite coastal town for all the reasons you shared in your video. Thanks for the spectacular video. The drone shots showing the waves were a treat!
What a beautiful video! We think it's our new favorite. The scenery and music was breath taking. In awe of what God has created! Loved the drone scenes looking back towards Depot Bay. We used to go every year on our anniversary on our way to Newport. Nice view of the Coast Guard boat the day after, and making its way back into the bay. Wow!!! Great job you two! ❤
Hi from wet and windy England…the one across the pond. Wow, you have brought memories flooding back. We were on a Pacific NW tour from Washington State down to California around 12 years ago. We decided to stop off in Depoe and as it happened, it was the day the Fleet of Flowers was taking place. The entrance to the harbour was a bit rough but not enough to stop the ceremony from going ahead. Wow, what a magic day and what a fabulous town. We took loads of video and photos and even saw one of the lifeboats go out with all the other craft. We walked up along the promenade exactly as you did and we stood exactly where you stood to take pictures of the entrance below and look back under the bridge at the harbour. Your drone footage was spectacular absolutely stunning watching that rough water hitting the entrance. We also have drones but unfortunately not on that occasion. Thanks again for the incredible footage…stay safe and have a wonderful vacation. Many thanks Des and Shirley.
Beautiful footage of the coastline here. The accompanying score is perfect for the scenery. Thoroughly enjoyed your presentation and can’t wait to visit the area soon. Thank you both 🎁 From Monterey Bay CA 🐋
Wow! Wow! Such great shots. Carrie got to get sprayed and Dave got to film the coast guard boats. Thank you so much for sharing this. Carrie cracked us up on how much she enjoyed the surf. Dave shops like I do.
Thank you! I grew up south of there and so miss it. Maybe i will try a last trip there. All of my family and people i knew, including Capt Stan Allen of the Kingfisher are all long gone. But we all felt one there. I wish i could come home.
About 15 years ago I was in Depoe Bay on a blustery day. The surf was rolling, and one Coast Guard boat went out to "stand guard" as several fishing boats were ready to enter the harbor. Two CG rescue swimmers climbed down - one fellow on each side- of the rocky entrance. The CG boat outside on guard allowed one waiting fishing boat to enter at a time. The experience was heart pounding for those of us watching. Each boat safely made harbor. The CG guard boat then entered, and the harbor was closed for the day.
That was incredible! There's so much to love about this video. The huge waves were mesmerizing. It was cool seeing the Coast Guard boat navigate the bay entrance. But my favorite was the rainbow shooting out of the blowhole! Thanks for sharing this. Loved the music and all of the great camera and drone footage!!! Happy New Year to you!
Wow Carrie and Dave, this is my favorite video in two years. I loved Dave's comments of his Coast Guard life. I do hope Roodle got a bite of breadboard. Lol
Beautiful video…..that blowhole reminds me of the one on Acadia National Park in Maine….a great place to visit if you get the chance. The footage of the coast guard body navigating the harbor channel was the best part……wait for the right wave and GO……such skill to go through that spot! Very cool! I can’t imagine doing that for the first time!
Really excellent video! Loved watching the CG boat waiting for the right moment to enter the S curve. USCG is my favorite service. My BiL is a retired commander, and we grew up in New London.
I get the blessing of Depoe Bay visits frequently. I love Tidal Rave's restaurant... Crab encrusted Halibut... mmm and it has my favorite view which you captured with drone footage. Love the Oregon coast and the people are soooo nice. Go on a whale watching tour almost every time. Have always seen whales but even if you don't the passage through that entrance is worth the trip!!!
My big take away memory of Depoe Bay from some time in the '90s was sitting on one of those benches enjoying the food shops while my wife and daughters visited each and every tourist/trinket shop in that town. Very cool video of a very cool little town.
Love all the little shops in Depoe Bay and that chowder you ate...Sea Hag been around awhile...We used to stop yrs ago but hardly anymore as we now are in the motorhome and parking there for an RV just doesnt happen...At least not that i know of....Usually, its way more crowded than when you folks were there also ....Neat place...Stay safe, be well...
You guys did a great job capturing Depoe Bay with the drone and camera footage. Very fun to see the lifeboat negotiating the entrance of the bay. Great weather, too, with little wind. Very nice! We live up the road in Clatsop County and next year we have to remember to get down here for the King Tides. Spectacular video!
There is another king tide coming up in a few weeks. The weather was so gloomy, windy and rainy leading up to this day! We were SO HAPPY the sun peeked out just got us!
@@oneadVANtureatatime We are packing up to head back to the SW deserts. When the next King Tides hit, we'll still be here. It is pretty cool to see the tides overrun the Peter Iredale and the south jetty in Fort Stevens SP, but I have a hankering to head down the coast. Maybe next year. You guys really hit some good weather. The rain has just been unrelenting.
Try a trip to Shore Acres during the King Tides especially when a storm is blowing! But this has always been a favorite community. We use two do a Wooden Baot Show there in April. Hopping to get it going again.
I love Depoe Bay. I've been there many a time and each time it renews my love of the powerful sea. The 300 mile long Oregon Coast offers pristine viewpoints along its entire length. The Oregon Coast is sparsely populated with only small towns. All of Oregon beaches are public under Oregon Law. Many deserted beaches and rocky coves await to explore with easy access from the main highway. A bit of trivia concerning Depoe Bay.. The 1975 Classic Movie, "One Flew Over the Cuckcoo's Nest" with Jack Nicholson, had one scene film there. The mental patients on a field trip from for the asylum steal a boat and go out to sea. What a hoot!
Omg both of your joy in talking and experiencing the area was so fun! I would be right by the waves getting wet too-giggling the whole way! How fun!!!! 🌊🌊🌊
Amazing video! I was quite surprised that Dave could fly in those conditions. I would expect that big wave conditions would include big wind. I can't imagine how many hours go into producing this. Just the time to pick out the background music is mind boggling! Thanks for sharing!
We spend a lot of time editing but it is so worth it! It was super windy the days leading up to the day of filming but light winds the day we were there! The weather was crappy all week leading up to this day! I was a VERY HAPPY camper when the sun peeked out just as we drove into town!
Loved the view from the water side to the shore: the white of the water against the black of the rocky shore - looked like hundreds of waterfalls. Would make a great puzzle picture.
You are right, the coast is much more enjoyable when the weather is nice! But the king tide’s usually don’t happen during that time! We did have a very nice day on the beach the next day.
The ocean is such a relaxing place to watch, even when it is wild and crazy! I don't know how I saw the birds...there was so much wave craziness all around them and they didn't care one bit.
Depoe Bay is the site where the fishing trip scene from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was filmed. I live 90 minutes from there, and love to drive over in the winter. The weather is part of why I love it. It is one of the few places on the coast where you can pull off the highway, get out of your car, and say "OK Pacific, give me your best shot"!
25 years ago I heard about Depot Bay and always wanted to come here. But as a farmers wife that was not possible. Thanks for experiencing it for me to enjoy here.😊
Oregon native. Love Depoe Bay. It's my go to destination when I go to the coast. Have gone deep sea fishing from there, had a great time. 4 stars for DB. Would be a 5 if there was a beach access.
I'll be going through Depot Bay this Saturday. I'm hoping to see big waves and nice weather! I've never done the walk on the sea wall or under the 101 bridge. I will this weekend! Thanks for the great video!
Beautiful. ❤❤🌊🌊Thank you for sharing. I haven't been able to go to the coast in 6 years and miss it so. The waves remind me of the Bible verses in the book of Job at chapter 38 verses 8-11 that speak about how God created them in the beginning: " He "barricaded the sea behind doors, When it burst out from the womb, When I clothed it with clouds, And wrapped it in thick gloom, When established my limit for it, And put its bars and doors in place, And I said, ‘You may come this far, and no farther; Here is where your proud waves will stop’?"
I know a couple that were on a chartered boat out of Depoe Bay. When they returned, it took 45 minutes before there was a lull in the waves to allow entry into the harbor. That was a lot of bobbing around in the surf.
King Tides are the highest tides of the year, Also King Tides happen multiple times per year. King Tides are really high Tides significantly higher than normal high tides. In inland areas they can cause localized flooding. At the ocean it normally has little effect except for 1. Localized areas of very low shore level. 2. Areas that easily cause crashing waves 3. High wind and low pressures causing high swells combined with 1 or 2 Depot bay falls mainly into #2. This time of the year has more (and deeper) low pressure storms that also can have high wind. Cape Blanco State park and the towns of Port Orford and Bandon are great spots, especially when a big storm comes in. Fort Stevens state park and especially Cape Disappointment State park, Washington are amazing locations as they both jut out into the Pacific, have rocky coasts and have the additional influence of the Columbia River. King Tides are normally about 1 to 2 feet above normal. A big storm can bring crashing waves 25 to 50 feet high. I was down by Port Orford this past November when the big storms were coming onshore. The first storm was a couple days before Peak King Tides. There were 25-50 foot crashing waves. It was crazy assume. Peak King Tides occurred between the two storms. The Peak was really boring after seeing the storm action. Then as the King Tides were dissipating, the next storm came in with wind gusts over 80 mph. Crashing waves were supposed to be about 30 feet, but the wind coming from onshore was so strong it was blowing the tops off the waves. It was impressive but not as impressive as the first storm.
I was in Depoe Bay last Thanksgiving to watch the king tide. It was the most awesome experience to see the power of the waves. But that weekend it was wall to wall people; I had never seen that many people there.
We expected crowds as well. We were there the day before the actual king tide because it had been very stormy and windy.... we picked the right day and the weather cooperated with us. I bet it was much busier on the weekend.
Hi Guys, thanks for the video. The best chowder I had was from Ivars in Seattle. It wasn’t clam chowder but was smoked salmon chowder. Along the OR coast I found fish and chips with halibut Yummy. Free camping in Tillamook at Blue Heron cheese factory BTW. Take Care
Wow! That must have been incredible. We were in awe of the waves during this King Tide! We missed the even higher waves further south! Love watching waves crash onto the shore!
This is one of my favorite places to visit! Great video and drone footage by the way. It looks like you found Tidal Raves, a restaurant north of the blow hole. They have amazing salmon chowder. It's one of our regular destinations. Also, the spit of land on the north side of the bay has a few parking areas among the houses where you can walk out to the cliff. On a recent trip there, we saw several whales within a few feet of the cliff including some youngsters. One of the locals told us that it's a 'resident' group that's there year round. If you like coffee, Pirate Coffee Company on 101 and NW Sunset St is excellent.
I need to put the king tide at DePoe Bay on my bucket list! This was amazing -- but I had to watch it three times because the crashing waves and the music kept lulling me into a nap, LOL! 😆
I’m glad you enjoyed it! It’s easy to get lulled to sleep by the ocean. I fell asleep this morning watching it! I had been up very late and then early to get the video published so I may have been a bit sleepy to start off.
Have been waiting for this episode. We saw your van parked along the sea wall in Depoe Bay. Was pretty sure that one of the drones we saw was yours. Going back for the king tide next weekend. So spectacular to see
Another epic video. Let's see if I understand this. The Coast Guard says hey we have this new vessel and we think it will work but take it out and try it LOL. Like Captain Ron says---If Anything is Going to Happen it is Going to Happen Out There. Thanks for doing these videos!!!
The way I remember it, back in the 70’s when they had a 44 in there, they used to take it out into the outer bay and deliberately roll it in the waves coming over the North point. For practice! My boyfriend was a Coastie there and he loved doing that.
Love Captain Ron! I think the Coast Guard has tamed the rolling...lol It breaks the boat and beats the crap out of the crew. They do a lot of surf drills though....that is super intense!
Absolutely breathtaking, isn't it. I don't know if you're still in Oregon, but if you are, and if you are going south, I'm in Brookings and would love to meet up with you.

The footage of the coast guard body navigating the harbor channel was the best part……wait for the right wave and GO……such skill to go through that spot! Very cool! I can’t imagine doing that for the first time!
Great video and drone footage! I live in Oregon, but have never seen the king tides. Thank you!!
Really excellent video! Loved watching the CG boat waiting for the right moment to enter the S curve. USCG is my favorite service. My BiL is a retired commander, and we grew up in New London.
THANK YOU! They are a truly incredible service! I might be a bit biased!
Sounds like a great memory!
Yeah, not really motorhome friendly! And we were surprised it wasn't busier
I have no words. Stunning footage. Thank you.
Thank You!
Stormy weather on the Oregon Coast is my favorite thing EVERRRRR!
I would love to experience a winter on the oregon coast! The only problem is that we are not very fond of rain..lol
❤THIS is the best footage of Depot Bay on the internet. PERIOD❗️ You should sell this to the cities tourism board. AMAZING.
We're so glad you enjoyed it! I would love to do tourism work in my favorite places!! Doesn't seem much like work!
Just started a puzzle with those same colors as those rocks, waves and water.greys, blues whites...awesome
Omg both of your joy in talking and experiencing the area was so fun! I would be right by the waves getting wet too-giggling the whole way! How fun!!!! 🌊🌊🌊
It was so much fun!
I noticed that when I was editing! I love seeing each area we go to from the drone's perspective!
September and October are the best times to visit. Kids are back in school and the weather is usually pretty nice.
You are right, the coast is much more enjoyable when the weather is nice! But the king tide’s usually don’t happen during that time! We did have a very nice day on the beach the next day.
Even though the waves are wild and crazy. Its relaxing to watch them. The birds in the puddle was adorable, glad you filmed them
The ocean is such a relaxing place to watch, even when it is wild and crazy! I don't know how I saw the birds...there was so much wave craziness all around them and they didn't care one bit.
Loved the shots of the 47 coming in through the hole! Did you notice how they had to time it to come in on a wave. Tremendous skill and timing!
Yes it was! I would LOVE to watch them out in the surf doing drillls!
My father was in the Coast Guard assigned to some station in Maryland during the Kirean war. Good choice.
It’s such a wild and beautiful place! If I was to live on the coast this area would be very high on my list!
25 years ago I heard about Depot Bay and always wanted to come here. But as a farmers wife that was not possible. Thanks for experiencing it for me to enjoy here.😊
We love Depoe Bay and we are glad we could share it with you!
Your video was great. We haven’t been to Depoe Bay in several years. I miss it.
Great video! Have never been able to stop in Depoe Bay… no place to park! But that’s during the summer.
Oregon native. Love Depoe Bay. It's my go to destination when I go to the coast. Have gone deep sea fishing from there, had a great time. 4 stars for DB. Would be a 5 if there was a beach access.
Thanks!
Thank you! 😊
I'll be going through Depot Bay this Saturday. I'm hoping to see big waves and nice weather! I've never done the walk on the sea wall or under the 101 bridge. I will this weekend! Thanks for the great video!
What a beautiful video of King tie in Depoe Bay !
Thank You!!
It always amazes me how placid the harbor is in spite of the violence on the west side of the bridge.
I know a couple that were on a chartered boat out of Depoe Bay. When they returned, it took 45 minutes before there was a lull in the waves to allow entry into the harbor. That was a lot of bobbing around in the surf.
Oh gosh…. I’m getting seasick just thinking about that!
Oh I love the drone shots!!!
Love love love this video!!!
King Tides are the highest tides of the year,
Also
King Tides happen multiple times per year.
King Tides are really high Tides significantly higher than normal high tides.
In inland areas they can cause localized flooding. At the ocean it normally has little effect except for
1. Localized areas of very low shore level.
2. Areas that easily cause crashing waves
3. High wind and low pressures causing high swells combined with 1 or 2
Depot bay falls mainly into #2.
You did a great job on these pictures.
: ) WOW! ! ! ! THANKS MUCH for sharing! OMG the power of the waves is UNREAL! ALL the BEST and safe travels ! ! ! Cheers : )
it was a great trip! We could watch those waves all day!
Take Care
I get to watch the powerful ocean from my hometown near the Mendocino Headlands. Love living here. The waves were gigantic on Dec 20th, 30 feet!
Wow! That must have been incredible. We were in awe of the waves during this King Tide! We missed the even higher waves further south! Love watching waves crash onto the shore!
It was like decades ago. I been to Depot bay and had Gracies clam chowder. Thanks for the great videos!
Did everything look the same?
@oneadVANtureatatime Yes, I guess, I remember walking under the bridge and loving life. I am so grateful for travel!
Thanks for all the great tips! We walked along those cliffs.... such a beatiful area! I would love to come back just to see the whales!!
Doing this in 5 days ! Cannot wait
Beautifully done video. We love Depoe Bay. We stop in every time we drive down south and Gracie Sea Hag is Awesome again thank you for this fabu6video
great place- you guys had so much fun!
What a great video, spectacular, thank you!!! Happy new year to the three of you❤
Thank You! Happy New Year to you too!
Have been waiting for this episode. We saw your van parked along the sea wall in Depoe Bay. Was pretty sure that one of the drones we saw was yours. Going back for the king tide next weekend. So spectacular to see
I'm sure it was Dave flying around..... we cannot wait to go back again!
Exciting views friends: Great job !
👍 Rock on 🙂.
Might want to rethink the boyfriend LOL.
Love Captain Ron! I think the Coast Guard has tamed the rolling...lol It breaks the boat and beats the crap out of the crew. They do a lot of surf drills though....that is super intense!
Awesome footage of the waves!
Thanks for watching! It was incredible to be there!
Really great video quality!
Absolutely breathtaking, isn't it. I don't know if you're still in Oregon, but if you are, and if you are going south, I'm in Brookings and would love to meet up with you.
Wonderful videography ❤
I visited Eureka Harbor at Thanksgiving but didn’t get to Depoe. Next trip north I’ll make it a point. Great video, as usual.
Although Depoe Bay is our favorite.... all of the Oregon coast is spectacular! Check out Thors Well when you finally make it north.
Beautiful capture
I love Depot Bay!
Absolutely stunning, thank you
It was!!! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing!!!
Depoe Bay. What a gem of the entire west coast. That water is high, yikes. No whale watching today.
