ok so let's take a step back here for a moment comparing Purdue and IU. I realize that Evan Miya player rankings aren't perfect but neither is blindly looking at stats because of good stats mid team type of things... but here we go IU's player 2023-2024 Evanmiya ranking (674 average) Ballo 44 Mgbako 250 Galloway 285 Myles Rice 387 Malik Reneau 405 Luke Goode 522 Anthony Leal 1053 Kanaan Carlyle 1171 Gabe Cupps 1953 Purdue (421 average) Smith 6 Fletcher Loyer 112 TKR 259 Heide 658 Colvin 659* Furst 838 *Colvin technically shows no data, but similar to Heide. Both in top ten of P6 Freshmen for eFG%. Colvin actually lowers the average here so it's not helping Purdue Purdue's returners actually beat out the rankings of these great transfers. The segment putting a lof of emphasis on Reneau stats but he still is only ranked 405. For this exercise, I don't include Catchings/Scott since they don't have rankings but they are similar rated recruits. Basically a wash for this conversation Wildcard: Gicarri just won the Iverson 3 pt contest, has handles and could be a dawg. Berg has battled with Edey for 2 years now and didn't get PT due to the B2B POTY playing in front of him. The other part here is that Loyer is ELITE at what he is expected to do, shoot 3's and make them. Number 2 in the B1G behind Gillis for all individuals averaging 3 attempts per game. He's close to double Galloway's 3 pt% which, from the guard spot, is absolutely huge. We also talk about the creation that Galloway has, but Loyer doesn't need that to be effective in his role as he can entry pass and Smith handles creation. You might look at this and think "yeah but if you only take the top 5, IU is better averaged". Truth here, but also a truth is that everyone isn't going 40 minutes here. I think the last part to think about IS the large recruiting class though. Purdue is bringing in 6 guys and expecting Berg to make a jump as well. If Purdue only needs 2 more guys to contribute there, that's pretty good odds on finding that dude amongst the 7. IU bringing in 1 recruit that they hope is effective immediately, otherwise they drop off real fast. Basically, what the synopsis of this is that 1:1, IU players may beat Purdue. As a team? Purdue has the better roster to fit roles.
Guys, you know i love ya, but Sasha goes over Loyer on the Purdue "since 2020" starting 5. Also, you guys need to wake up to what Will Berg might bring at Center. That guy has size, strength, and has spent multiple years playing every day against the 2-time NPOY. You think he's gonna be scared of Ballo? Please.
Enjoy listening to the comparison. IU bought themselves a roster. Painter is a far better coach who has built a great program. We’ll see what happens during the season.
If it’s just roster based on face value and talent the it’s Indiana every day. The fits may not be perfect but for Purdue they will be needing 3 guys to take big jumps and a freshman to be as good as advertised
As an Illini fan, I love that Carter sees so much orange. I don’t think Illinois beats Purdue in that seven game series with those lineups because TSJ and Ayo are greatly impacted by Edey and become jump shooters only essentially. Ayo would be okay with a mid range game that TSJ really was not great at. That Illinois team is an extremely poor ball handling team. Not even Ayo handles very well. Luckily, for them nobody really pressures in the Big Ten, otherwise, they would be cooked. TSJ had his worst games as an Illini against Purdue, both years he played at Illinois. Got his pocket picked multiple times in ‘23 by Newman forcing Coleman Hawkins to play point guard at times against Purdue. Edey concussed Kofi in the MLK game in Champaign that was the best Illinois / Purdue game in recent memory. That game was known as the Curbelo game in a loss as he was fantastic that game.. Purdue has beaten Illinois 5 times in a row. During this time period Illinois is 3-5 against Purdue during this time period.
Actually as a Purdue guy, I think you're over rating Purdue's freshmen, because, ya know, freshmen, and under rating Caleb Furst and Will Berg. Neither one got many minutes last season because Zach (and he's one name now, like Kareem and Shaq), Zach never left the floor. Don't be at all surprised to see Furst at the 4, and Berg seeing a lot of time. In, admittedly, very limited minutes last year Berg had a positive plus - minus. He's been described as Matt Haarms with better footwork and an outside shot, he could potentially make 35% from 3. And Furst at 6-10 is a natural 4 while the much lighter TKR at 6-9 is a 5. Weird, but Painter doesn't really look at height, just what you can do. Right now I think Paint would start Smith, Loyer, Heide, TKR and Furst but Berg at 5 and TKR at 4 would not surprise me, and Berg at 7'2" at the 4, in the corner shooting kick out threes is bizarre, but he's that good of a shot. They will play totally differently than in the last few years, look at some Purdue video from when Matt Haarms was there, that's more how they will play next season. - With love, Robbie Hummel's Knee Brace 🏀🦿
Pundits, including Cart & Greg, did this position by position comparison for all of Purdue's big non-con games this past year. Despite losing handily in the matchups, Purdue won all of those games. A big part of that can be attributed to Edey obviously, but the roster construction and coaching is a huge part of that. Raw talent and athleticism can only make up for so much

One minute in and Carter already has his first lie of the episode. That shirt is more red than Luke Goode's hair.
Steve killed it in this episode 👋

Absolutely red shirt.
Illinois has the most wins in the conference since 2020 (when he turned the program around). Super close, like a game or 2, but that is a true stat.
y'all are high re: Indiana v. Purdue takes. I'd take Purdue over Indiana's roster (including coaching) all day every day.

Nutty bars > nutter butter
And it’s not close

I don't hate this video as a Purdue fan. It's reinforcement that your individual evaluation skills are questionable.

Red for sure
Do Northwestern and Illinois exercise tomorrow! Probably closer than people realize.
Boiler Up!
How did the most talent work for Kentucky and Duke? They had way better coaches than Woodson too.
That shirt is absolutely red 😂
Indiana is definitely good on paper. Should be a good series between the two teams next season
Side note over the last 3 years Purdue vs Indiana matchup is even
Red 100%
Md vs Illinois
Monica Lopez over Nicole Jared is absolutely crazy. Greg with another terrible ranking cant get anything right.
The next Blippi
"We're Back" version 4.0. Please. IU will suck AGAIN, book it. Culture matters.
The Indiana vs Purdue exercise leaves out points for coaching and Chemistry. Each would be one point in Purdue’s favor. Those should be categories
Still doesn’t change the fact that indianas roster is better😂
I could argue the most important part of coaching....... IS BRINGING IN TALENT
@@itsdame20 you guys were screaming for Woodson to be fired two months ago. Just be happy Indiana can buy players regardless of who the coach is.

@@DrDoctor02 or bad recruiting and big Alumni donations to hopefully overcome that bad coaching.
