"Old Man River"
Composer: Jerome Kern
Poem:Oscar Hammerstein
Let me go 'way from de Mississippi,
let me go 'way from the white men boss.
Show me dat stream called de river Jordan.
Dat's de ol' stream dat I long to cross.
Ol' man river,
dat ol' man river.
He must know sumpin'
but don't say nothin'.
He jus' keeps rollin',
he kees on rollin'
along.
He don't plant 'taters,
he don't plant cotton.
And dem dat plants 'em
is soon forgotten.
But Ol' man river,
he jus' keeps rollin'
along.
You an' me, we sweat an' strain,
body all achin' an' racked wid pain.
"Tote dat barge!" "Lift dat bale",
git a little drunk an' you land in jail.
Ah gits weary
an' sick of tryin'.
Ah'm tired of livin'
an skeered of dyin'...
But Ol' man river,
he jus' keeps rollin'
along. - Видеоклипы
Муслим-Орфей планеты Земля! Завораживающий по красоте и чувственности голос, высочайшее сценическое искусство - это Муслим! Пленяет слушателей навсегда!
Thanks. I did a little searching around on the internet and found that he had recently passed away... at far too young an age. He certainly was a great one, and I wish I had had a chance to see one of his live performances. But I have enjoyed what there is on the internet.

Thank you for this record! I often had the chance and honour to be invited to the concerts by Muslim Magamaev and to listen to him, who used to be not only a great singer, a very nice person, but also a friend to me.
Brilliant!!! Thank you!!!
Brilliant!!! Bravo!!!
Memory Eternal, Muslim Magometovich. We shall miss you.

The most beautiful song of ALL times.
Brilliant, Muslim Magomaev, with OLD MAN RIVER, the most beautiful song, in the world.
Wow what an excellent voice and performance !!!! What a damn pity that banal pointless politics has robbed the world of the chance of hearing such a great talent!!! Thank God for you Tube!!

Der Mann ist der absolute Hammer. Einmalig.
Muslim Magomaev was graduated as opera singer, but he preferred pop songs vs classical repertoire. Once he said that his dream was to get some lessons from Frank Sinatra.
Some of Magomaev's fans call him "Russian Elvis" (but he wasn't native russian, he was azerbaijanian)
It was perfomed of course in the Great Country the USSR with its greatest culture, greatest talants in all fields of klife. This is Muslim Magomaev singing. Born in Azerbaijan, lived in Russia, belonged to the Great Country.
Greatness does not come into our lives very often. We all need to be reminded that it is out there and we should not miss a chance to bring it into our lives.
His name is Muslim Magomaev. He was one of the best Soviet Union`s singer and cult figure on USSR popular stage.
"Great stuff. But, pardon my ignorance, where was this concert held and who is the singer?"
Muslim Magomaev, a great Soviet baritone. Sang opera in 60ss-70ss along with musicals and pop music. The concert was held in 1988, in Moscow.
Espetacular muslim magomaev, interpretando old man River, a mais bela canção de todos os tempos.
Old Man River, Old Man River, the first, in the world.
❤️
A mais bela, e forte canção de todos os tempos.
He laughs best who laughs last!..
After a couple of DECADES of MORE THAN SUCCESSFULLY perfoming in VARIOUS Genres, the Singer knows exactly what to stick to.
I assume that ignorance is NOT a fault, however, cocksureness in jugdements IS, in my opinion.
My Greatest THANKS to the Great Singer for his Great performance!
поет Муслим очень даже неплохо
Thanks for warm words, Ilalfisto, unfortunately due to Soviet prohibitions lots of singers from former USSR didn't have a chance to be opened by world audience.
But Muslim has a good background, he studied in Italy, in famous La Scala Theatre. U can visit his homepage (english & Russian versions) if you wish.
Rgds,
R.
One of my favorite songs, performed by Magomayev: "Baku, my city" (enter "Gorod moy Baku" in the RUclips search window.)
Wow! I was looking up the lyrics to this song, came across YOuTube videos and watched a bunch of renditions. This fellow and this orchestra present the best one I viewed. I would appreciate knowing in which country and with which orchestra this was performed. Thanks.... John
Better yet, enter this: Муслим Магомаев "Город Мой Баку"
baddass
en que año fue este concierto? interesante la similitud entre los cantos de rio como el ol`man river y el de los del Volga, ambos temas tristes y nobles.
I love the Russo-Mississippi accent
Запись 1988
this singer is wonderfull i prefer him in my way to sinatra
While Muslim (as always) has an amazing voice, and I do love his work very much, I don't quite like the extended lyrics of this version as much as I do the ones in my Robeson recording. I also feel as if the large orchestra and the great amount of polish given to this song sort of diminish its "atmosphere" -- Paul's version, with just the piano backing it, sounds a bit more like something that could have been sung in a poor town by the side of the Mississippi.
Great stuff. But, pardon my ignorance, where was this concert held and who is the singer?
Жалко запись не очень хорошая.
Что за запись
Number one: Never use the name of God in vain.
Number two: Music doesn't know any colour.
Number three: This person in his time has got more international awards than your age.
Calm down, man, he's just making a joke.
