RAN sailings Deerfoot 68 video: • Is Deerfoot 68 Our New...
In hope the audio is fixed in this version. Please let me know if you have any audio issues :)
Thanks! It's something that's happened a few times in the past. I'm not sure if it's linked to one of your mic's or if it's a mixing thing. FWIW, the issue has always gone away when I turn off any "single" speaker that pretends to do stereo. For me that always meant disconnect the bluetooth speaker and use the built in audio out instead (in which case the sound issue goes away).
Now that you've "fixed" it, you probably know the cause, but if not maybe the above info is helpful. Regardless...I try never to miss an episode, one of the most informative and interesting channels on sailing youtube!
Could you please type in CAPS Mads? I can barely hear you.😎
Audio troubles no more.
Les sous-titres sont disponibles. Merci.
Loud and clear😊
That Dearfoot design is out of this world! I'm drooling!
Very interesting more. Needs a lot more Ava :). Love her excitement.
I sailed with Captain Tim on Selina in Maryland. Helped me rebuild my windvane, among a lot of other things I needed help with. He’s a genius and a really cool guy.
Steve Dashew and his boats are the arguably the finest cruising boats ever made. Their last sailboat, Beowulf sailing on a reach at 28 knots with just Steve and Linda is beyond impressive. If Mads could find a Deerfoot or any other variant to update, it would be beyond worth it.
Steve and Linda, both aged in their 60s...
Tim must be really , really good for Mad’s to be that impressed!
🥳 whoehoe! Working! 😅 I am so happy now! ❤😂🥳
If Tim and his better half are up for it, I really think you and Ava should stay in the area for the winter and help him with his boat, documenting all the glorious DIY fun of course!
I have been there to. I bought a tiny 18feet keel boat when I was 18. In the first summer I noticed that I liked working on boats much more than sailing them. So now I stay away from boats and do other fun things in the workshop.
Oohoo sounds is back , good to hear you both again
Tim is a treasure!
Great audio!! What a cool boat!
Thank you for the fix I have three sailing vids watch you are my very most favorite
Ava you didn't fool us for a minute, we knew you were there.
What a boat, such brilliant workmanship.
I could do that, only I understand that human lifespans rarely extend to 140 years, so I'd be unlikely to finish it. What a master craftsman!
I have been watching Mads for years. My take away from this video is that Mads needs another big project. The joy that Mads has during this video comes through during the tour of the boat and the appreciation of the work Tim has done is palpable. Somewhere out there is a project that needs a little "Mads-gic" touch!
Nothing better in ‘sail life’ than what is essentially a custom boat. Just make sure you allocate enough time in one’s lifespan to enjoy the fruits of those labors. 😊
Tims boat is absolutely fantastic! It would make a terrific YT channel.
Love the shirt. We The People
Tim's dream is building the boat, I should imagine he hopes it will never end.
Tim's project is awesome. Perhaps you could check back in with a follow up video when he is finished?
I think we can all see the direction this is going, looking forward to the 5-year refit video series Mads and Ava
Pretty amazing work. That vanished woodwork with the inlays is absolutely top-shelf.
The gentleman clearly has plenty of time and money on hand. Kudos for the sensational work.
Thanks for the redo.
That deer foot 61 is a beautiful example of beautiful engineering ,
Oh yes sound now much better …! ❤
The video makes so much more sense with the audio working. thank you
I didn't notice any problems on the previous version but liked this anyway. Thank yo Mads and Ava.
hotdamn that is a spiffy project
Audio perfect Mads, thank you 🥰
Audio was fine, glad you were able to fix it. Wonder how many years of work will go into the boat before he can sail again.
Super..thank you for providing sound to this great video.
Wow - what a boat!
Ran is a great channel to watch. Brilliant new boat build.
Amazing work going to be an awesome boat when complete mad skills
Wow what amazing thoughtfulness and craftsmanship. Great video.
Wow. Meticulous work. Reminds me of why I started watching this channel in the pre-Athena days lol.
Amazing thought process and attention to detail... clearly informed and driven by experience.
Amazing work.
Audio perfect this time😊
Thank you!
Audio great, thanks for fixing 👍
Sound is a wonderful thing 🎉
I have a hard time thinking this Deerfoot is for sale! Top marks to Tim with his work. As a tour of a developing yacht this was second to none. Thx for sharing.
I didnt hear any audio issues on last one other than the audio was all the way right after you got in the car. Anyway I stated in the other video. I am VERY MUCH looking forward to you getting a big ass boat. I watched you from the moment you got Athena on. So please DO get another boat and take a few years to retrofit it. Ill be here :)
FYI, Wauquiez is pronounced “Vah-kee-yay”…fantastic, well built boats, I have a Ted Hood design from the same era as Athena
WHOO HOOO! Well Done!! Thumbs up.
In your hands will be a dream project 🤜🤛
audio is fixed! Much better then trying to read lips. This boat is amazing, the details he is putting in it are beautiful. And you cans see the ideas spinning in Mads head.
Thanks!
Bloody brilliant. Very professional work. Giving me motivation to buy that yacht project that I probably shouldn't buy. 😅
Audio fixed! Never doubted you for a moment.
I see Mads eyes going green and his mind whirling!!
phew i can hear the video what a relief i won't have to learn to read lips
Audio all good. Great vid
Who’d have thought *anyone* could out-spiff Mads? 😂
The audio is working now thank you very much
Amazion 😮
Thanks Mads - much better sound, we missed Ava's parts during the sound issue, great its all fixed.
Wow
I hadn’t noticed the audio issue on the last one. Thanks for reposting though
Talk about the house being built around the boat instead of the inverse! Also, it was a blast meeting you at the Annapolis boat show a couple of weekends ago. I hope youndidnt catch the bug that was being passed around at the show? Great video, so informative, and excellent attention to detail, as usual.
thnaks love from copenhagen
managed to get through Dashew's 'Offshore Cruising Encyclopedia' on my honeymoon...
Sådan Mads!!!
Audio is great.
I think that is your calling. Mads... You are definitely a boatwright/builder in another life. You are also pretty dang spiffy at what you do😂
Find your dream yacht and fix her up, mate.
Someone has hit the jackpot by marrying into an incredible sailing family with the shop and tools to make metric tons of man glitter!
Audio Fixed😁 ty
Could you please provide information on using fiberglass inserts or threading into fiberglass directly for high-vibration applications like mounting engines, heavy watermakers, or generators on board? I couldn't find any useful videos on this topic and was wondering if you could consider covering it in the future.
Dashew boat designs are incredibly capable and efficient for ocean crossings. He later designed motor yachts called Windhorse that are unique and superior for long passages in speed and comfort
This is probably the most beautiful buildout I've ever seen. I wonder how it took for Tim to reach the this point, and also how far he is from finnishing off the project.
I cant say exactly, but that keel hasn't been new for easily over a decade
Yea sound, thought it was my computer.
I'm surprised Mads didn't Keel Over and collapse it's hard to believe just one man or woman could undertake such a project.....it makes Mads Athena refit project seem like Mickey Mouse.........🤯
Interesting video as always 👍 Are you considering selling Athena because she’s too small?
It’s a nice boat Mats but doesn’t bring much in comparison with what you have. Yes you should have done the refit to a larger boat originally but since you’re ready? Better start sailing. After a few years you’ll know what the next boat should be. Likely you want more space, having a family etc and that brings the c into the comparison. Life in a catamaran is much more family oriented and you may want to consider. I said no for over a decade but find myself drawing the inevitable. Your work is similarly impressive, better not step halfway into such a project because the well designed ideas may not work out to be exactly the same…( just my opinion, having done a few boats myself) life is better when you’re sailing..
It would be interesting to know how long Tim has been working on his boat and what his timeline is.
i don't remember if you mentioned the time he has spent on the boat and how much time he expects to use before launching it. i would like to know that if you have it?
How long has he been working on the boat? When would he like to I have it done?
Yea I can under stand
You should get another boat to refit.
Where’s the PDF? Couldn’t find it on Patreon.
Nice narrow boats these Deerfoot, yet unfurtunatly marina fares are to be paid by length and not by width...
Actually in Denmark in the marina I was in fees where calculated based on beam (not length) but I think that's the only place I've seen that :)
Where are you getting your boat built?
Well, actually, we're doing it in-house...
Is Tim's boat for sale?
I didn’t experience any audio issues the first time 🤷🏻♂️
How can that be your next project if it's his boat and he plans to finish it out.
Audio fixed
Audio troubles no more.
Beautiful boat. Pity it will never be finished in his lifetime. I would rather go sailing ...
Mooring fees for a boat that big would be quite high.
About the same as a smaller cat. No surprise that a larger boat costs more all round than a smaller boat. The idea is to moor where its cheap as Mads does.
So much better (audio issues). You should pull the other video because the vast majority of people are going to default to the version with problems.
After 7 years of watching Mads, there is one thing I can promise you. He is logical, rational, and will do what is best for his channel even if he takes a momentary hit in AdSense revenue to maintain his standard. That I can promise you.
Trouble with that is that all the comments get lost, AFAIK - Might be better to edit the clip so it starts with a suggestion people switch to this one.
@@Gottenhimfella Who cares? This channel has always been about quality production. Losing a few comments one week to uphold a standard is an easy trade off. Is the goal some social media metric or producing quality content? It's clear Mads favors quality and reputation over some blip in comments on a video that has known audio issues.
You may not appreciate this as this is not your line of business but in the business Mads operates, reputation is king. And you do everything in your power to maintain your reputation which once every 5 years requires you to eat some AdSense revenue to maintain a standard. You may not understand it as it's not your area of expertise but Mads understands it.
Why would you tell someone to keep up an inferior product that has issues anyway? The solution is already known so it's only logical to delete the video with issues and post the corrected video. I don't really understand the logic of broadcasting a failed product to the masses when the solution is already in hand. Your methodology is not logical. Thankfully, Mads is very logical and will solve this without our input.
@@bocamax The people who made thoughtful comments , that's who, and the people who might have benefited from their insights. And maybe Mads cares more about people than about the metrics which I (and it seems, you) find to be somewhat squalid.
He has fixed the quality issue and it's straightforward to address both your concerns and mine, provided the method I suggested is actionable He's already pinned a warning and a link at the top of the comments which most people affected will see when they check the comments to see if it's a known issue and personally I think that falls short of perfection by a n acceptably small distance , given that many if not mot people experience no audio levels degradation.
I will be outraged if you don't leave an infuriating unfinished gap around a vertical rail in an otherwise amazing rebuild.
I'm an outlier in the comments, I wish Tim would just get it done. And what are you doing Mads and Ava? Thinking of a new project? Get out there and enjoy the sailing. Seeking perfection is a terrible road to go down, I built a carbon foam, vac bagged, post cured 38ft tri for a perfectionist and he never sailed it and the ideal of perfection literally drove him suicidal. I don't applaud those who spend their lives making the perfect boat, there isn't one. My 38ft cat has many imperfections but she has one amazing saving grace, she did not cost me too much of my life to build her and she is a great liveaboard and fast cruiser. She does not owe me back too much. The sailors who spend decades of their lives, and slowly lose friends and family to their obsession should not be copied. One aquaintance died before he finished his boat, living in his shed for decades. Give yourself a time line, do a reasonable but not impeccable job, get out there and when you don't enjoy sailing, work out why and have another go. Good times are now, not when you get a better boat and sail somewhere else, so hurry up and get it done and don't think that your life will be better when you get a "better" boat. Just go sailing Mads and admire those who are not slogging away for a distant dream of sailing the "ulitmate boat".
And sailing fast on a Dashew? Like how dumb is that for most mortals? So you spend years and years saving and building so you can go fast. Why not just get a cheaper and easier to maintain boat and leave 5 years earlier and be back home before the non rich Dashew owner has even finished their project? Dshews and Gunboats are great for rich people but not for normal folk. Give yourself a certain amount of time to earn the money, build it and sail it. Then you would never consider a Dashew, or a Gunboat, or anything expensive. You would buy/build a nice modest boat and get sailing before the large and expensive build has even got the deck on.
To be fair, I've already lost Odd as a subscriber... please don't take the same route!
Mads, it seems you're not cut out for fulltime cruising/sailing life afterall. I think you're missing DIY boat repairs too much. So, why don't you just quit sailing fulltime and start your own boat repair business? It's clearly where your passion lies.
Go sailing, you have hardly started. The channel name is Sail Life. If you start another refit you’ll need to name the channel Refit Life 😂
Looks like he might have a new definition of “spiffy”
When you guys find your next boat, make sure you hit us up to move it for you if you need it transported, we met in Charleston. Danny, Triton Yachts in Oriental NC
I'll keep that in mind for sure, Danny :) I hope you'll be around when we pass by Oriental heading north next spring/summer :)
Yessssssssss!!!!!
