Listening to Klipsch is like listening in the bar vs B&W in the recording studio. Klipsch gives you the atmosphere while B&W gives you all the details.

Both speakers sounded great! While listening through my headphones, I imagine sitting by myself in the restaurant in the middle of the room listening to Grace Mahya, live. I am sitting at least 20 feet away from her and her band. There are tables and chairs surrounding me. The restaurant has wooden floors.
If the restaurant is half-full of people, that would be the sound of the B&W.
On the other hand, if the restaurant is empty, and I am the only person listening to her and the band, then that would be the sound of the Klipsch.

  • @mexiatexas1

I own both. Depends on the specific passages sampled. As my hearing ages the Klipsch
sound more “live” to me. My Klipsch are being driven by an Integra DRX-5. The B&W’s sound smoother with extremely stable/tighter dynamics. The Bowers drive in their lane while the RP600’s tend to swerve out of theirs from time to time, What continues to kill me is with billions of different ear canal/skull types, a litany of variables in listening tastes, many of which formed in the womb, compairing things like the subtleties of timbres and sound “colors” still seems to be impossible to discuss and arrive at any uniform conclusion. Sure, the color red is universally recognized as such, but once we began to dissect the the variations of that one color throughout the color spectrum, things become tricky. I also have some DefTechs being driven by a Marantz 7701, Jamo and Paradigm’s. Ironically, my set-up with an Onkyo RZ610 driving some decades old, pre-China, B&W 601 S3’s with the Kevlar woofers. Sound produced through that system can only be described as “purity”. I am not wealthy, so I am relegated to staying with only “decent” consumer gear.

Not sure you got your Klipsch set up to perform their best. I don't hear them playing out of control unless they weren't well placed or not well room eqed or matched with bright electronics. I suggest you keep playing with them.
I haven't heard the b&w maybe they are more subtle like an Elac. But they feel robbed of excitement to sound more polite.

@@kohnfutner9637 I agree a person should have at least two sets of speakers. Every speaker is a compromise, and the more afordable, the more prononced the area of compromise will be. I too have B&W DM601S3 as well as Klipsch RP150m. The B&W are still great for more complex material, but whatever people tell you: they do NOT rock:) That's where the Klipsch comes in...

The B&Ws from that era were far better designed and engineered than anything they've made since, which all have a big midrange suckout and too hot treble, and even B&Ws from that era had those two traits, but not to the extremes that newer generations have all had.

Sadly I enjoyed them both. IMHO, I sense the better quality tweeter and more precise, tighter bass of the B&W. The RP 600M is amazing regardless of price. Thanks for the demo.

    • @kohnfutner9637
      @kohnfutner9637 2 года назад

I got the 600m and the 280f. I don't expect the 600m to even compete with the b&w considering they cost roughly 1/5th the price. However, I think the Klipsch rp series has been highly underrated by the reviewing community probably due to lack of spending the time with them to get them set up optimally because they have so much other speakers to play with.
The tweeter is one of the most high end tweeters I've heard: very well extended, not at all grainy, not sharp when it's set up right and the dynamics are concert lifelike. I'd be surprised if the b&w actually beats it, other than in price and in people's minds, especially with the horn. I'm definitely a Klipsch horn fan.

The non-audiophile musicians of that group would love to have the Klipsch inside their own rooms, while audiophiles who love to breakdown the music into small parts to be analyzed to death, would prefer the B&W.
The most difference was in the piano solo at 2:50 (Klipsch) vs 9:00 (B&W).
The Klipsch sounded LIVE and intimate with me sitting very close with the singer and band members in a small jazz bar.
Im physically there. It can communicate the excitement and soul of the music. Its not an intellectual pretender.
The B&W made me feel as though Im seated much farther away in a quiet corner of a bigger space, with the speaker trying to impress the audiophile in me with a very spacious, wide soundstage and great instrument separation...great for an audiophile to analyze to death. The LIVE feel is hardly there, and its not as closely confined, punchy, feet thumping and exciting as the Klipsch.

I went quickly back-n-forth at approx the same place in the song and listened to them back-to-back and the B&Ws had clearer highs, which surprised me because I always hear that Klipsch is super-bright, etc. Not that the B&Ws were too bright ... just very clear. Wow, superb sound from both. Really surprised by the Klipsch - I heard none of the edginess or harshness they are supposedly prone to. Listening on my Sony headphones they have a lovely airy but relaxed presentation and the small jazz combo sounded so real. I listened to the whole track and will go and find it to stream for myself, that's how much I enjoyed these speakers. I doubted if the B&W could do any better, but then I started listening and well... ok, it's another level and the extra detail demands your attention. In short, either of these would be superb choices with this kind of partnering equipment, but congrats to you on creating such a well balanced listening space and doing such a great job in the recording.

Lots of commenters probably listening on crappy stereos or just whatever little speakers they have on their laptop, or maybe ear buds, whatever. I'm listening on a Yamaha RX-A3080 feeding a Rotel RB-1590 stereo amplifier via AQ Mackenzie balanced XLR cables powering Bowers & Wilkins CM-10 S1's, and without doubt the B&W win hands down. They're far more open and airy with better detail. The Klipsch add the usual Klipsch color, less detail, sound boxy and slightly tinny and less accurate. But if the Klipsch was all my budget allowed me to buy, I'd be very happy with them. You don't see Klipsch in the world famous Abbey Roads recording studio, but you do find Bowers & Wilkins.

B&W speakers, especially the 801 model tend to be very flat, and therefor, are seen and used as studio monitors. The Boston Symphony Orchestra audio crew use them. I have seen them first hand in the radio booth when they come to their summer home at Tanglewood, Lenox, MA. Using them to mix for the live broadcasts. I have also observed that they are somewhat a challenge in the home setting. I went in a completely different direction and went with Martin Logan eletrostats. They too are rather flat in their frequency response. I can understand why listeners may 'miss' the colorations of box speakers (O:

The voice sounded clearer on the Klipsch and it was detailed. I attributed that to the tractrix horn driver. The B&W sounded smoother and I could probably listen to them longer, but it didn't seem as detailed in some passages. It all comes down to a matter of preference.

Your analysis hit it right on the head....I like the live sound to balance-out the 'darker' sound of my current pre/poweramp (McIntosh vintage).....but for many neutral or 'brighter' amps, B and W would work with TONS OF SUCCESS.

I have the Klipsch RP 600M and can confirm. One thing to note is that you're still getting a Klipsch speaker. So don't expect a warm and cozy sound. The Klipsch are rather thin sounding (but not unbearably so) so it takes time to adjust. Don't buy the Klipsch for classic rock! 70s and 80s recordings will sound especially thin. Buy the Klipsch for hip hop (i.e. modern music) and movies instead. They're excellent movie speakers.

The 706s tweeters❤️❤️❤️. The 706s has a crisp sound that is softer and provides better clarity vs Klipsch. The Klipsch has a better midbass performance but is a bit bright borderline harsh IMO. You can’t go wrong with either as they both sound amazing. Thanks for sharing.

I give the vote to Klipsch. The piano was most live sounding and the voice was slightly reverb (probably recording). The speakers are similar but the B & W made the sound, especially voice more distant, even muffled in some way at times. When you consider cost, it is a hands down win. Most compared at 3:00 and 9:00

Went to Best Buy to actually listen to the speakers and what they could do. I was blown away by the Bowers & Wilkins 605 S2 speakers. I had the guy that was demoing the speakers shut off all subwoofers so I could just hear what the speakers could do. I compared those speakers with the Martin Logan's that were $2,000. These speakers blew the Martin Logan's out the door. I got the pair Bowers & Wilkins speakers for $250 with the full warranty because they were demo speakers. Happy, happy, happy!

Good comparison video, on my rig it brings out the +/- of both, if you are familiar with them.... The B&W has much more room interaction and that makes it less clear/vivid in the video, but in person could make it the better experience, but it's really hard to get rooms and B&W speakers to work together. The B&W is the more modern and accurate of the 2. The Klipsch brings a bit of their classic sound to the table, which I previously didn't think was the case. Definitely has the tonal goodness that one gets from high efficiency and horns as in instruments sound like instruments, not some caricature. I was actually surprised by the musicality of the Klipsch. For being speakers from the opposite sides of modern consumer speaker sound, it's an interesting match up.

I bought the B&Ws for reference speakers for my speaker building hobby. The B&Ws don't have enough highs for me (in the high hat/whispering region). I copied the B&W sound with my home built point source semi dipole speakers. But (cos my B&Ws aren't bright enough) I put a bit more high hat treble in mine (and then they completely flogged the B&Ws)! I like to "see" the singer's throat (and with the B&Ws I simply don't get that). 😂 It's not only the extra brightness on mine, I like, but also several unique acoustic features I developed that make my speakers sound different. In tonal control and in a spatial way (they bring out the reverb in the recordings more). But if the recording is flat with no reverb at all...well then (in that case) my speakers won't sound any different to any other speaker. I wouldn't be doing it if I was just putting drivers in boxes and building crossovers. That's been done before.

The sound in these Klipsch may not be 100% audiophile correct, but I would rather listen to these Klipsch RP600M over B&W 706 S2 on a Saturday night with something good in the glass, but that's me. But a little better clarity and bass, will not hurt. It is possible to switch to a more powerful crossover filter of better quality, replace steel with copper, and stiffen the cabinet with better insulation for a cheap price, and it is not very difficult. But this is more for us nerds of course.

About the Klipsch: I feel it is overly boomy. And not mellow but harsh. The bass wave overflows and swamps the singer. And when the treble part began it was excessive. It killed the feeling and emotion of the track.
I think that I now know the Klipsch a little better. I understand the reviewers who say that K's are great for partying and rocking.
The 706, quite 'V shaped' and not timid at all both in bass and highs sounded almost like a pussy cat. Assertive, but enjoyably so.

The Kp's boom and shoutiness would remain. This vocally impolite 'behemoth' would have to be EQ'd to simmer it down a little.
I think I get the point: it sounds a bit like a live performance in a particularly 'animated' nightclub.
The B&W with its 'house sound' would reproduce the track in all its feelings: the highs, the lows, the nuances, the emotions without introducing a party that wasn't there. B&W aren't flat or boring at all. They are very articulate.
I feel this particular Kp is brash and overstated both in bass and treble. I couldn't live with it without lots of bass traps and EQ.
