That is the tune ‘Midnight in Moscow’ very well known song, it was a even a hit in the US by a band called Kenny Ball and the Jazz Men and it was also recorded in English by The Village Stompers, it was a very popular tune worldwide in the 1960’s and has been recorded many times especially in Russia where it is still popular today
Does this ever bring back memories. In 1972 I started listening to the shortwave radio on a regular basis. I soon found that Radio Moscow boomed in every night on the old 41m band, the bottom edge of which overlapped the 40m ham radio band in North America. I also noticed that I would often hear conversations in very high- or low-pitched voices deep in the background. One day, by experimentation, I learned how to use the BFO on my Heathkit AR-3 to tune those conversations in and make them legible. And so another ham operator was born.
I lived in Moscow from 1986 to 1988 and this was played on Radio Moscow World Service during that time. I have no idea how long before or after I was there that RMWS played it. At the time, I thought it sounded like popular instrumental music--with the exception of the balalaika--from the early-to-mid sixties in the rest of the world.
So cool. I always loved this arrangement. Thanks for posting this. I was 10 years old, and the first station I ever heard was Radio Moscow. [ it was. 1971]. I’ve been hooked on Short Wave radio ever since. 📻🙂
In the 80s...I must've been watched by MI5 as I had mail coming from Moscow,East Berlin,Prague,Sofia,Beijing & Pyongyang as I listened to all the Communist stations & send reception report for QSL cards....& The propaganda sent was amazing.
I felt honoured to be a member of the Radio Berlin International DX club! I not only received QSL cards from the Eastern Bloc but also small gifts! Radio Sofia Bulgaria sent me ribbons for my hair.
Recorded for Radio Moscow by George Garanian and the band Melodia. This version of Moscow Nights has been used as the interval signal for Radio Moscow World Service since the start of 1978.
@@qp4590 so basically your cleaning up the audio and making it sound better and not like some hold music? If so i cant wait to hear it because this is my favorite song and id love to hear a clean audio version of it
@@yugare474 I wouldn't call it 'cleaning up', I'm writing it down in sheet music based on what notes I can discern by ear. I'm transcribing it on Musescore, though, so it has (pretty darn good, especially after the new update) playback.

Thank you for sharing this.
Happy days, glued to shortwave radio back in the 80s here in the UK.
glad to inform that this is one of the rarest pieces remaining of this song, it is truly lost media as it was recorded only for radio moscow's sake
used to hear it at night (after 0600gmt) in u.s. regularly in early 80s
It was played in the early 1960s on Radio Moscow World World Service.

I remember Joe Adamov who was the presenter of 'Moscow Mailbag' and Estelle Winters who presented 'Timelines' - happy days!
You're not alone.
Beautiful. Pure nostalgia.
Thank you for uploading this!

Would listen to a lot of Radio Moscow in 1986 here in Albuquerque,NM on my budget model Radio Shack shortwave.
Not sure about this arrangement, but one arrangement used was by George Garanian and the Melodia Band which they called “Moscow Nights”.
So cool. I always loved this arrangement.

My parents would reminisce about these radios a lot in Lithuania.
Thank you so much for reuploading this gem! I had the original on my YT music playlist and just realized that the vid had been deleted/privated.
This makes me cry
Thanks for the reupload, I love this so much.

The Melodiya Ensemble led by Georgy Garanian. They've done at least one other arrangement of this song.
@@qp4590 do you have a link to a higher quality source by any chance? I can't seem to find the arrangement
