Recipes:
Baby Beet Salad with Chèvre Quenelles, Tomato Confit, and Raspberry Vinaigrette with Onion Olive Oil (Serves 2)
Ingredients for the Salad:
¼ cup Moroccan dry-cured black olives
1 yellow baby beet
1 red baby beet
1½ tablespoons white wine vinegar
1½ tablespoons sugar
½ to 1 teaspoon sea salt
4 ounces softened chèvre
4 teaspoons Onion Olive Oil (see recipe below)
4 tablespoons raspberry vinegar
4 baby beet leaves, for garnish
½ yellow tomato, thinly sliced
2 Oven-Dried Cherry Tomatoes (see recipe below)
Ingredients for Onion Olive Oil:
1½ cups good-quality olive oil (scaled down from original)
2 cups loosely packed chopped leeks (white part only)
2 green onions, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
Ingredients for Oven-Dried Cherry Tomatoes:
2 cherry tomatoes (keep stems attached if desired for garnish)
Rock salt (to make a bed)
Steps:
For Onion Olive Oil:
1. Cook the Ingredients:
In a medium saucepan over high heat, combine 1½ cups olive oil, 2 cups chopped leeks (white part only), 2 chopped green onions, and 1 chopped medium onion.
Stir occasionally and cook for 3-4 minutes.
Reduce heat to medium-high and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Decrease heat to medium and cook for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions and leeks are crispy and browned.
2. Strain and Store:
Remove from heat, strain the oil into a bowl, and let it cool before transferring it to a jar.
Store, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
For Black Olive Dust:
1. Preheat your oven to 175°F (80°C).
2. Pit ¼ cup black olives and place them on a baking sheet.
3. Dry the olives in the oven for 12 hours or overnight.
4. Once dried, grind them into fine pieces using a food processor. Set aside.
For Oven-Dried Cherry Tomatoes:
1. Preheat the oven to 250°F (120°C).
2. Wash 2 cherry tomatoes and keep the stems attached, if desired.
3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and make a bed of rock salt.
4. Place the cherry tomatoes on the salt and roast in the oven for 50 minutes to 1 hour, or until they are shriveled and partially dried.
5. Remove from the oven and set aside.
For Baby Beets:
1. Trim the stems of 1 yellow and 1 red baby beet, leaving about ½ inch on top. Do not peel but gently scrub them with a brush.
2. In a small saucepan, combine 1½ tablespoons of white wine vinegar, 1½ tablespoons of sugar, and enough water to cover the beets.
3. Add the yellow beet first. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat, add ½ to 1 teaspoon of sea salt, and simmer gently for 4-5 minutes or until the beet is tender.
4. Remove the yellow beet, let it cool, and cut it in half.
5. Repeat the process with the red beet.
For Chèvre Quenelles:
1. Soften 4 ounces of chèvre at room temperature.
2. Using 2 teaspoons, form small quenelles (oval shapes) by scooping out 1 teaspoon of chèvre and transferring it back and forth between spoons.
3. Make 6 quenelles in total (3 per plate). Chill until ready to use.
To Serve:
1. On each of two plates, spoon 2 teaspoons of Onion Olive Oil and 2 tablespoons of raspberry vinegar.
2. Place half of a red and half of a yellow beet on each plate.
3. Add 3 chèvre quenelles and 2 baby beet leaves to each plate.
4. Place one thin slice of yellow tomato on each plate, topped with one Oven-Dried Cherry Tomato.
5. Sprinkle ¼ teaspoon of Black Olive Dust on each Oven-Dried Cherry Tomato.

Him seeing and realizing what you made is way too wholesome. Almost shed a tear 🥲❤️
He is so enthusiastic, I luv it!
Let me join you ❤
This is exactly why we love this channel, for the beautiful father & son relationship 🥲
One of your best videos, Jet. Editing doesn’t go unnoticed
I agree 💯
1000%
I concur with everyone! Loved this video!
@americangirl971 Isn't it awesome?🤩
yall are fools if you think he edited this himself. rich people live differently
He knew if the recipes were to complex, people would give up and just pay him to cook it. The man is a genius.
And that's the difference between a Chef and a home cook lol
Dude was flexing on home cooks
@@LynnMarie31 lol right. You'd need 2 years of chef experience to just make a garnish for one of his recipes haha
Iron Chef Dad’s hair is looking luxurious on that cookbook cover. 🙌
Dad is a very fine looking man. I wish I was a portrait artist just to paint his portrait. (Oh, and spend time with him. Fascinating man).
YES🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hell yes! He looks majestic on that cover 👌🏾🔥💪🏾
dude your dad's reaction gave me a smile from ear to ear. I've said this before but your dad reminds me so much of my grand father who was also Chinese.
❤
✋🤛
I thought he was Canadian
@its-c0e-u-see Jet is a Canadian, of Chinese and Caucasian ancestry, I believe. Jet...correct me if I'm wrong.
I love how proud he is. And even when he was critiquing parts of it, he was still positive and enjoyed it. Love this.
The "WOW MY SON" 🥹♥️♥️♥️
I cried when your dad realized what you had done, and hugged you. Beautiful.
Me too!🥲
I legitimately teared up seeing your dad's reaction to your cooking of his dish. I also love how even though the beets were a bit undercooked, he still saw the positive in it and that it's more nutritious and it tastes healthier. Shows how positive your dad is. The relationship you have with him is amazing Jet, thank you for sharing this with us!
Oh also, in the early 2000's I was painting a house in midtown Toronto just off Yonge and I swear your dad asked me for directions somewhere. I was on top of a porch painting a window so he was a bit far away, but I'm almost 100% sure it was him, his hair is very recognizable and distinct (I wasn't able to give him directions though because I wasn't familiar with the area lol)
8:55 I've seen most of your videos but wow you sure made your dad proud with that one. His reaction was so heartwarming.
that was the dope moment to capture
Agree
🤣🤣🤣
You and susur should make a cookbook together thats more dummyfied for gen z 😂😂 the old cookbook packaging is so 🤌🏽🤌🏽
They forsure have one in the works
I hope they do this even if it’s just online first
#stonks
They can call it "Make it Gourmet"!
Dads. Stay in your kids life. Excellent props to your dad. Better than any gift.
Those last clips 13:20😭❤️, recalling some good memories of your lovely family.
I shed a tear
I have no videos as a kid. While there are pictures, my family was never a picture family. We'd go to people's houses and they'll have albums upon albums of pictures and pictures in the living room, framed etc. I don't blame my parents though cause I never was anything special.
EDIT: Jet on the other hand is a special kid who recreated his dad's dish on first attempt. Imagine that. He has the Iron Chef in him.
His criticism was so soft. "It tastes healthy." You can tell his chefs must love him.
It was more of his Dad side criticizing him than his Chef side.
That was a parent criticizing a child for sure… always keep it positive and soft. So sweet
This should be a new series for you. Teaching yourself to cook using your dad's recipes. This was a great video!
Bro going to become Souma and take over the academy.
The pride he had in his son upholding his life's work is one of the most beautiful moments I've ever seen
he made a cookbook for chefs, not dumbing down his skills 🔥
Putting a divider in between the Life Story and Cook Book is actually so smart, have other chefs done this and im just far behind?!
1st time seeing a chef doing this.
Top 3 videos you’ve produced! Love the concept and edit!
Yes!! Agreed
9:00
What a beautiful relationship. Words that any child would love to hear from his parents and any parent would love to utter
Jet is the Golden Child of the Bent-Lees
Such a power move to have your Asian parent to acknowledge your work and also he is grateful that his creation is passed on to the next generation, so Asian Chinese. My parents are also like that, feels like your wisdom and knowledge passed down to the next generation successfully
I love how positive and supportive your Dad is while still giving good constructive criticism.
This is peak content that only Jet could make. What an incredible video man. I know he said that there was no way he could make any other recipes in this, but maybe 1 recipe at the end of the year could be a nice little "season finale" for the channel in the future.
I teared up when your dad said he teared up seeing your dish 🥲
Great video Jet, watching your dad light up with pride when he realized was so wholesome
I didn't grow up with a dad, but I hope one day when I have a son I can have a relationship with him like you and your dad. Great video!
this video made my inner child so happy! you weren't kidding when you said this is probably your best video!
Yep!!
@ 9:02 that is a priceless moment. Still waiting on one of those with my father. Congrats, you really made him so happy.
Your dad’s reaction almost made me cry 🥹 it’s just so cute. Im pregnant w my first and I can’t wait to have moments like these 🥹 also amazing editing!! So full of life and personality!!!
You should need to do more videos like this! Not only for us viewers, but also for your dad, it made him so happy. Heartwarming video, loved it
Def best video. Doing something difficult, impressing your dad, the sentimentality, and those final clips from childhood. Great family chemistry too!
The best part of this video is how happy it made your dad. I'm not a parent but I teared up too. Lovely moment.
9:00 I love how happy and proud your dad was. Passing on knowledge / wisdom and or skill to my own kids is one of the best thing about being a dad
Jet, you did a helluva job w/ the editing and cooking the dish. Seeing your dad tear up over your effort, that's when you know you have done it justice!
i like that he improved his recipes through out the years.
This is the most animated I've ever seen your dad! I absolutely LOVE his reaction when he realized what you'd done! ❤
Sometimes it’s good to just give back.
And this was an ode to all the hard work your dad put in to put you in a position to succeed.
Great job, Jet
Your dad’s reaction really makes the whole video concept worthwhile 🥹🩵 how sweet!!!
not the McDonald’s Susur edit 😭
You can tell dad was genuinely proud. Good job.
The moment he realized actually made me laugh and tear up at the same time because he’s so proud! Good job 🙏🏼 you’re making amazing memories with your dad and that’s such a blessing in itself!
This is the best video with Mr Lee. It was soooo amaizing to see his reaction, he is so proud and happy. You guys are so lucky, so sweet and wholesome.
OMG, this video was so wholesome, from your dad's reaction to the home video clips at the end! 😭😭😭 Favorite video you've made. The way that the mutual love and respect your dad and you hold for one another radiates through this entire video honestly made me a bit teary-eyed.
I think this is my favorite video of yours ever ❤. The old photos of you and your Dad are priceless. I love the way you show so much respect and admiration for your father and his many accomplishments. It's truly heartwarming to see 😌. Your Dad's response to your efforts was so joyous and beautiful to see🥹.
Hope you're feeling better and are getting help for the high cholesterol...it's very important that you do 🙏🏼.
BTW...was that salted or unsalted butter you used in the mother butter recipe 🤔?
He linked the garlic butter recipe in the description
@MJAYMONONOKE TY!
This is one of your best videos. The look on his face when he realized what you cooked is priceless!
In the age where every other young person is cooking out of Tik Tok, this is definately impressive 👍👏
Dad was moved...
And everyone loved the pics at the end ❤
Good job 👍
This was the sweetest thing I've ever seen - you made your dad so proud and happy, what a gift! ❤
Bro this is definitely your best video yet! Your editing is so good. The story behind the video is also very touching. Almost shed a tear. You can see how proud your dad is
Oh my Jet I really enjoyed this video. Such a great tribute and surprise for your dad. ❤
10:02 😂KILLED ME😆⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Seeing your dad that excited and proud made me happy. I remember showing my dad a knife I had made, and he was kind of blown away at it. Its those moments with your parents that make life great.
You lucky son of a biscuit, wish I had a dad that were in my life. You're a good kid for making his recipes, that's awesome.
i love that jet is creating a log of all the great times and laughs with his dad, will be the best look back video diary.
I believe you already realize how blessed you are to have that relationship with your Dad. You can tell he's very proud of you. Keep making the videos with him. I lost my Dad a few years back, and it's always good to see great relationships like you guys have.
Talk about pride and joy! Daddy exuded every bit of those emotions upon seeing you honor his sacrifices to make a good life for you all. 🥰 Everyone should be so blessed to be on both sides of that moment.
When I first saw your dad make that butter, I said immediately to myself that I had to try it. I have since made, if I had to honestly guess, 20 batches of it. I've given it away to friends, family, and all of them say how great it is. It makes the absolute best garlic bread, and it adds a great punch into sauces. I personally love it stirred in at the end of dishes like plain white rice, or even a butter noodle pasta. It's absolutely perfect.
you can tell how proud the dad is...hope you can keep this series up....
The packaging of that book is truly amazing
JET!! I love this video, you should definitely do a series in which you cook for your dad an get his take on it, it could be his recipes or viral dishes online or even challenge yourself an attempt a hi end cuisine dished! keep the videos coming, much love!
Hands down your best video yet love the extras at the end with the home videos. Seeing how touched your dad was to see you cook one of his recipes very touching!
This is so cool to see.
He was so proud.
Your guys channel is awesome.
I bought your Dad’s book when it was first published, yes the recipes are super technical but doable! Delicious and fun. As well, arguably one of the most beautifully produced cook books EVER, A jewel i cherish on my bookshelf.
The video montage at the end was SO beautiful😭 Y'alls relationship is so wholesome to watch
Ooo look how proud he is of you. That's love. I know you give you a hard time being a nepo baby but good job. Look at the smile in your dad's face. Good job love. Just pure love. He's so happy
yea you can't really blame him for being somewhat spoiled, that's all susur's choice and wanting for his children to live their lives. But I really like seeing Jet make his dad smile, that shit is how you pay it back
We're hugee fans of you and your dad's work! It's so wholesome to watch this whole video and seeing his reaction really made us teary. Thank you for this!
One of the best videos you've ever made, and a wonderful tribute to your dad!
I have always loved your Dad since Iron Chef back in the day... love you did this for your Dad. It is good to see him here
The relationship you have with your dad is definitely something to be treasured.
the editing was insane, I liked the reference to the Penguin at 5:30
Beautiful video from the hard work you put in to the appreciation your dad gave for you doing recipes, you can tell he loves you and you love him, good work.
Please continue to make more of these videos! It’s awesome seeing how proud your dad is when he sees you making his recipes!
This is such an adorable video, it's so wholesome and your dad is so genuinely proud, I'm sure this is such a great memory for the both of you, well done dude
“You know how long some of these took to make?” Yeah I’m pretty sure he has a good assumption lol 😂 love you vids!
😢 almost shed a tear when he said wow my son and how excited he got, I’ll never know that feeling as a son but I want to be that loving as a dad.

You're his baby..... Clearly.... He gets overjoyed with you .....🙏🏽✌🏽😘
I lost my dad last year in April. This reminded me of what it was like to bond with him over music, to watch him play guitar and show him what id learned. This is beautiful dude. ❤
the most wholesome reaction from your father. Well done Jet. This couldve made your fathers dadlyhood for a very very long time.
ignoring the fact he put in so much time to the dish and made the dish really well. The fact he made one of his dads recipes made his dad so happy is really cool
This made me ecstatically happy just a father and son moment of him realizing that it was his dish and you cooked it for him made me wanna cry like a baby !!! Fucking awesome bro!!!!!!!
The amount of emotion you're able to put into a "cooking" video is amazing.. one of my favs for sure
His genuine happiness to see one of his son's attempting to cook his food is wonderful. You cannot get more wholesome, love it!

He's so proud 🥹
It’s so heartwarming to see how much love your dad has for you…scoring 9/10 is proof…undercooked beets and missing a Quenelle is an automatic 2/10.😂
He's so geeked out and it makes me so happy
My favourite video with you two. His genuine look of surprise, appreciation and pride that you took the time to make on of his dishes. Then the hilarity of it taking a minute to realize it’s from his 20 y/o book! 😂
The grin on my face right now. ❤ to share your happiness is priceless
Bro dad literally has the hair of a goddess 😂

A father's pride. Nothing could top it. ♥️
I CRIED. Seriously best video yet. Thanks for letting us peer into your beautiful family’s life. ♥️
Why did this make me tear up at the end? You honored your dad so well but making one of his dishes this was so awesome to see and your early childhood footage was beautiful, cherish these memories with him.
I love the passion in his craft, and definitely the pride in his son. ❤🥹
I can't count how many times I have watched this video and each time it is just as great as the first time. Really really good work❤
We need more father’s like this. So wholesome
