I finally picked this up and am 6 hours into the first wear. I really like it. Makes a unique addition to my collection. I really don't get all of the negativity about it. Sure, it's not an everyday scent, but that's part of the charm.

Hey man how does it change for you? I've noticed that when the temperature is higher the honey is more noticeable and gives another dimension to the fragrance. In the winter the honey almost fades away for me, leaving the fragrance with no buffer between the animalic cover and the herbs .. not the same unfortunately

    • @kkchome
      @kkchome 3 года назад +4

@@franm.1959 Kouros works great on my regardless of the weather. However, I find that it needs to be sprayed on skin, rather than clothes or hair. It seems that the magic happens when it reacts with body heat. In the winter time, I usually only go with a couple of sprays on the chest and one one each wrist. It definitely seems to do better when I do some physical activity, even if it is a brisk walk. I find if I spray it and just sit around it is not as nice. Because of this, it is more of a daytime fragrance for me.

I picked up this same version from Parfums Corp a couple years ago at a second hand store for like $10 still in the original box and full. Felt like I struck gold. I occasionally spray it on at home and can’t stop sniffing it but I don’t wear it out very often. It’s definitely a masterpiece and I’m very happy to have a vintage bottle in my collection.

Pierre Bourdon also created Creed's Orange Spice (MichaelJackson's favourite fragrance apparently!) , which was the original Kouros and cost mega bucks. So a much cheaper version was made for Yves Saint Laurent and Kouros was born true story 👍

One of my all time favourites! Must have for every vintage fraghead. I have 3 bottles, one of which I've bought recently for the equivalent of only 48 pounds - it is a 1994 Sanofi era 50ml unpacked splash bottle. Of course I'm keeping it sealed since I have already two other bottles (2003 and 2010 iteration).

  • @renegadebrad7448

I brought kouros about a week ago and I'd not had it since my 20s and I'm 48 now and it smells exactly like i remember it i don't get any piss type reference from it i get a strange talcum powder freshness along with leather and it still smells really lovely to me it is a strong one i don't need more than 3 sprays and it lasts a whole 8 hour shift at work, nobody has said I smell of piss yet lol I think i can appreciate it more now than i could when i was younger it also gives me a lift a feel good feeling wearing, the only i can understand is if a lot of people think it's old and dated etc it does smell a bit dated compared to the current releases but i still think it's a good one especially for guys in their 40s i can still rock kouros i don't see it as an offensive scent for people around you unless you sprayed on loads of it 🤣 but I'd say it still is 10 outta 10 worthy

I've just got 2 different 1 vintages. I, to have a Sanofi era and the one after Sanofi.

Had the first generation 81-82, sadly I lost the bottle and destroyed my car the same day, went over to a friend house doing a warm up before a night out last thing before going out I put on some Kouros and dropped the bottle on my carseat (the bottle didn't have a atomizer then), the day after when I came to drive my car home most of Kouros has dripped into the carseat, har to use another a car for many weeks untill I fixed the seat.
It was a powerhouse fragrance, not strange to have it then actually, in a club with 500 people 200 of them har cigarettes in their mouth, on the dancefloor there was smokemachines going on with regulary interval, some people drank cheap beers from taps and their breaths smelled like sh*t, others dressed like true rockers with 100% leather boots, pants, vests, jackets and still sweated in smells in theirclose range of old sweatty leather and three days since last showers, and everything mixed with girls chemistry of hairspray and noose sticky deodorants, Kouros keept you in your own cloud with a fresh aura (atleast then) , it would be Nice to find a bottle from those first years again to realize what we carried with a proud straight neck then, macho absolute.

I wore Kouros back in the 1980s. I thought it smelt fantastic and I loved wearing it. The powerhouse fragrances of the 1980s e.g. Kouros and Fahrenheit didn't disappoint - you'd only need new a few sprays and you could smell them on yourself the whole day unlike so many other popular men's fragrances such as Eternity for Men, Aqua di Gio, Dolce and Gabanna Light Blue, Boss Bottled and Dolce and Gabbana The One.

Currently I have a vintage bottle (tester) of Kouros from Perfumes Corp era. So good, so rich and beautiful.

One of my all time favorite colognes ! I Truly think this was the originator for the 90’s powerhouse A-men from muelier! There is nothing , and I mean , NOTHING like it pure masculinely. If we could smell male pheromones this would be it ! One more thing it’s so concentrated , a few days later if you haven’t wash your cloths that you wore with it , your cloths will smell incredible! Guys that own this know not exaggerating, I truly think this stuff has Greek God pheromones so many compliments ! I hate colognes of today they all smell the same : crisp , clinical , alchol-ish , bright ! I’m a dude man I want musk ! Lol great review sir !

I you're wondering what this smells like it's a punchy dry woody/musky/soapy scent. Key word is dry which is why many people don't like it. I think some fresher and sweeter notes would massively enhance this. I think it's an excellent base for something more sexy and wearable. Sweet boozey aldehydic notes would pair well with this.

Wonderful review for one of my favorites! I started with the white shoulders and it was an instant click for me so I knew I had to get the vintage. Now I own quite a big collection, one 100ml 1981 Charles of the Ritz, 3 X50ml Parfums Corps + one 100ml Invigorating After Shave(navy-blue bottle), and also 4 X50 ml Sanofi...for the moment I think I'm ok, but I find it to be very addictive so I'm always open for more Kouros. I think my next direction is towards the flankers. As for the fragrance itself, the older the better.. I find the Charles of the Ritz the most natural of them all, smooth and balanced but not the most potent. The 1989 Parfums Corp is the beast of my collection with big loads of civet and honey. Sanofi starts to resemble the modern Kouros of today, with a sinthetic vibe almost medicinal( urinal?) but with a nice dose of civet. Love them all!

Wish someone would do a detailed review comparison of the vintage and the newer formulas. I have both. My nose ain’t the greatest but I believe I smell an initial difference in the top and mid notes. I seem cinnamon more in the vintage, but not sure.

Curious how the most recent formulation compares. I have heard rumors it has been recently improved. I own a vintage bottle from, I believe, the 1980’s, as well as a bottle from roughly the late 2000’s, which I actually prefer (though both very similar). However, I also owned a bottle which I purchased in 2013 without silver shoulders, and this was completely different and rather atrocious. I think many reformulations can be blown out of proportion, but this one was very different and lacked any depth. At any rate, one of my all time favorites, especially during Autumn.

I also have the 2013 Kouros and it's very disappointing to say the least. I've read the 1999-2003 Kouros was the last years of Kouros retaining that vintage smell.

I’d love a vintage bottle but the prices are too high for something that you really can’t wear that often. It’s a shame because it’s a true monster of a frag and I personally love it

Sometimes vintage bottles can be found on eBay for a good price , especially if they are not listed as vintage. But I agree it’s not easy to find them.

Own a Sanofi and Parfums Corp Era, Parfums Corp has more of airey sharpness on the top which helps cut the smooth base better then later versions. All versions are great still.

Flip! I recently got a 62J700 batch 2/3 bottle from eBay described as 'vintage' but is 2012 and all white shoulders (and is a splash bottle which I don't really like)... Wish I'd seen this video first. Trouble is I'd have a hard time remembering the smell from first time around... yep, am that old, but now feel compelled to try to bag a silver shoulder version.

the old formula is better than the new version, imo. Both are good, but the original, which I have two botttles of still, are best,(althouh some ladies would disagree,as it seems they prefer the smell of hummingbird nectar and baby powder these days)

I had an older metal rimmed bottle, not a very old version thou, and had the actual version...there are differences for sure but the actual version still is a great fragrance and has still a performance that is much better than 98 % of all designer fragrances available today. I guess fragrance snobism and the thrill of rarity play it's own part here.

From the articule below . I’ve read that the SANOFI era is from 1993-1999 . That means if I purchased any YSL scent then it definitely vintage and not a recent formulation.

One of my favorite fragrances, definitely in my top 3, I’m 32 I do not find this dated at all. It’s so much deeper and masculine than anything made today. I do not have a vintage version but I do love the version I have. I do have a vintage Kouros Fraicheur which is nice along with cologne sport. I hear Milton Lloyd “The man silver” is a great clone of vintage kouros ? I have that as well really nice but can’t compare it to vintage kouros. Awesome review !

I've never actually tried Kouros - but.....
Someone bought me a cheap clone once, "The Man Silver by Milton Lloyd" (I think it was like £5 or less).
I actually really like that scent, and I've heard it smells more like the older bottles of Kouros......though I'm dubious...
I'd really love it if someone who happens to have smelt both might know.....If anyone happens to read this.....

The Kouros introduced in the 80',was one, that was so good, a art of perfume.
    But times change...to negative.
It was because of the civet, natural civet.
After reformulation, the synthetic civet dominate to much..
    And now its stinks!!!
What a waste of such a great parfume!!!
The real Kouros, the one where its begins, are hard to find, with skyhigh prices.
If you have one, store it in the fridge...and be happy!!
