I kid you not, the last time I wore Kouros I literally almost got into a fight cause I felt so Macho and ultra-confident haha.
Most people that despise this beast made the mistake to put too much on and smell it up-close. Kouros is meant to be smelled in the air, not on the skin. When smelled from an arm's length this is insanely beautiful...
KING KOUROS is for the SHEPHERD only and is NOT not for the sheep.
I have worn this LEGEND since the 1981 launch and still wear it today. I’ve spent £thousands on different fragrances over the years but the TRUTH never lies and I ALWAYS come back to KING Kouros.
Tip:
Buy from BOOTS (only) because it’s virtually the same as the original mind blow 80s version, just gotta shake each time before use to keep all the notes mixed properly! Then it smells absolutely amazing on the opening! and then its projection/performance/longevity/dry down is also absolutely gorgeous!...... it’s known as KING KOUROS for a reason.
It’s also the ULTIMATE woman panty dropper TRUST ME! 10/10.

I loooooove Kouros! It was one of my dad's favs and I have memories of him attached to it.... I still sometimes go smell it when I really miss him...seems to have changed over the years...but still...something. loved the old bottle too....I still must have it somewhere am sure. Love it! I put six sprays on working from home, put on my shirt and sat down to work. Holy crap, I almost knocked myself out
In a word "WOW" , perfect projection , sillage and longevity. Bit strong and msculine and apt for King of Barbershop , bit animallic , dry lovely floral with required darkness .
One I would like to add if any one wants to layer then it goes excellent with GIT or Tres nuit

Hello Joy, i just received my kouros today. Just bought it online from trusted seller, 30 usd for 50 ml bottle. Can't find any cheaper than that in my current state (Indonesia) I guess.
The initial spray (on test strip), i've got tons... I means heavy loaded tons of civet notes, it took about 20-30 minutes until the civet notes toned down and evolving into very beautiful and well balanced masculine scent that reminds me of the something that I've sniffed before in my early childhood ( it's the late 80's), from my uncle or maybe from one of my relatives if im not mistaken.
Projection wise, it is definitely a Monsters. I put my test strip inside my drawer (closed) and ended filled my office room with the kouros.
I will further tested the kouros, but scent wise, I agree with you this one is masterpiece, for sure.
I can see the reason why "king kouros" tittle still unbeatable till know.
Ps: I've got the bottle that had a silver bezel, 2013 batch.

honestly ive worn a lot of stuff over the years and spent a lot of money but nothing makes me feel like kouros ...hard to explain its just an amazing scent ....if creed come up with this or tom ford it would be lauded over
in the early 80s my girlfriends dad had this, he was a flashy busnissmen, working in the computer industry.... i always stole some sneaking into their bathroom , i already knew this scent was different, cause i was different too....lol, 80s BEST decade for real, when there was way more depth....
Yes, very very lucky to have been alive in the 80s it certainly was the very best decade and last era of freedom. We was lucky we had combination of technology like Walkmans and vcrs and bmx bikes etc plus the freedom of no cameras everywhere no phones everywhere and more friendly people. This feminism bs has destroyed women, I think they're finally awakening to this fact. In our day boys were boys and girls were girls. They didn't play contact sport that was for us, these days the girls are more manly then the men. Modern men a effeminate it's head shaking freaky.

This became my signature fragrance in 1981 for many years. I was 21 years old. I disagree with some of the "types" of who wore Kouros. Just look at the ad campaign in GQ. Kouros was the forefront fragrance of the GQ model, not for Al Pacino, or Arnold Schwarzenegger, it was the GQ models of the early 80s, and those who aspire to be like them. Well dressed, elegant, a gentlemen, but very youthful, and at the forefront of all of the cool things that the 80's were bringing. Cool, classy, and chic. Definitely not Al Pacino. No hairy chests, no gold chains.

I'm in my 50s in the 80s it was a God of scents and it still is , it's a classic, the opening is not so great but the dry down is amazing, nothing like it
if kouros was never released and roja dove released it now for 300 quid it would be praised to high heavens ....just the fact it has a history and its sort of dated because weve all known it for nearly 40 years shouldnt diminish what it is ....to this day ive never smelt another fragrance that makes me feel like kouros ,cheap ,designer or niche its better than them all

Awesome review! I've noticed that for me, Kouros really shines during the hot season, it smells like summer..in cold weather i find it sharp and linear but still enjoy it a bit. I also like to layer one Kouros spray with half a spray of Aqua Amara - incredible mix!
well said if you look at the old ad of the scent its shows sea and a man bathing in it i think that was the concept behind it was suppose to be a fresh scent
You're not wrong. Its sort of like a super concentrated version of Acqua di gio original. Acqua di gio Aquatics, jasmine, nutmeg whereas kouros has aldehydes, jasmine, and vanilla. Both are sweaty and dank in their own way.

When I was 7 years old my 21 year old cousin brother use to wear this in London, as a kid I had no idea he was wearing so whenever he use to come around it use to smell the whole place so nice, this was in 1992 year. One day I was in school and came home and smelt it and said to my mum did my cousin bro came she said yes how did I know because he left, I said I can smell his scent wow. I asked him what he wears he said ysl kouros it was vintage then
Took me a year or so to warm up to my bottle, but now i love it. Its so great!

I have a 2015 bottle and i'm fine with the way it smells now in the currant formulation
its much more toned down..but guess what bro...i saw a vintage bottle at one mall's ysl counter in malaysia...ill buy that as well...im turned on by this fragrance ;)
This scent is something else man. It's such an experience. Simply its a sweet jasmine musky cologne but as you wear it, the development is insane and constantly changes making you question your perception of reality. Pine one moment, then honey, then jasmine, then vanilla, then woods, then citrus, then musk, then it becomes spicy, the clove is there, some ambergris. Its wild, sweaty, confusing, sweet, fresh. I still haven't quite figured this out yet!

@Smoky yes I have a bottle and Aramis as well. Aramis was my first ever fragrance and I got it in 1988, it was between these 2. Many years later I finally grabbed Kouros, at first it smells like cat piss, then the magic happens. Theres a skill to wearing it

Found you by accident but loving your style and reviews. Just finished a vintage bottle of kouros and replaced it with a new bottle, however it appears the formulation has drastically changed. It’s nowhere near the original which lasts 12 even 15 hours on my skin, no kidding. Even after a shower it’s still there. Disappointingly the new formula is all but gone in an hour. Sadly, the King is gone. YSL should have just discontinued this and named it something else. Now it smells like a 5$ talcum powder. 🙁

Hello Sir!!! I've 2013, 2015 and 2017 bottle of Kouros. The 2013 bottle with batch code 3286 has batch code only on the box, not on the bottle and the bottle is made plastic, rest of 2015 and 2017 bottles has batch code both on the box and bottle both are Enamel bottles.I heard some bottles of PPR Gucci ( Kouros )had been plastic bottle but why there's is no batch code on the bottle? Can you discuss with your perfume selling friend or people you know who can tell you about this? Please Sir.... I'm from a landlocked country where there are no brands and stores where I can confirm. Please

Hi all! I tried Boss number 1 and it seemed super disgusting to me. Tell me who knows Kouros is similar to Boss number 1?
Not similar to boss 1 has more boozy tobacco and musk , kourous is unique aquatic and animalitic same time with woody florals combined get civet note.

They are quite a bargain (at least here in Europe, under 20€ for 100ml) and they have quality, even their bottles are very nice actually. AND: those both are the creation of Alberto Morillas...he is a master, and i know that you like him ;)

malaysian YSL counters still carry it , i saw last year october even...may be not in all countries which is sad :( yes you have to TRY first ;)

The loss of oakmoss and civet(one) and the reformulations under L'Oreal have changed the character of Kouros.
In 1983, as a high school senior, I can remember picking up my Kouros bottle, looking down into the splash bottle, holding the mouth to my solar plexus and letting a drop run down my chest. And that was it, set for a day. Warm, rich, smooth with many facets - clean as a fresh shave and as animal as a rare steak.
The recent formula - 38M800 - has sharpness and lack smooth deep richness.
Vintage Kouros was high-end designer; recent Kouros is stocked by discount pharmacies.
Recent Kouros is almost totally unlike vintage Kouros - it has lost its SATISFACTION.
I suspect some fragrance houses and makers of aroma chemicals profit more by selling many more fragrances that are much less satisfying than a FEW GREAT FRAGRANCES.
Try milton lloyd the man silver. Very much like the original, lasts for ages and costs hardly anything
Nice review! Seems like men wanted to smell like urine in the 1980's, because I've heard that a few more popular fragrances from that decade contained that urine vibe: Dior Jules and Hugo Boss No. 1.
im very interested in Jules....Boss no. 1 smelled like a very old man to me...even to my taste i felt i couldnt pull it off...but great gem for sure. the smell of urine is just to some nose...i dont get it..the sweaty vibe yes...but im way past that and im addicted to this scent now lol

To be honest, I read the ingredients more carefully i.e. i checked the 1981 version, maybe it is more suppressed now i.e. synthetic or reformulated or other, but there is Civet (essence or oil) in Kouros.
You can check what (a) Civet is in the link below i.e. where it's coming from, it's no secret to the perfume industry. Your nose is right , it's really an animal secretion you are putting on.

I think they removed synthetic civet completely from it tbh. Kouros never used the real thing i think because after 2015 is when the animalic note changed in it. Civet was banned way before that
