- This video shows all the gear that I took to Greenland on an ice sheet / ice cap crossing.
I'm going to do a series on my latest expedition, a Greenland ice cap crossing along the Arctic Circle. Along with my friend Terry Williams, we are one of the oldest teams ever to succeed.

21st century arctic traveler , Shot gun and mulitmeter . Who would of thought to bring a electrical test kit while pulling a Pulk. . In your books and videos I like the WHY that you bring the things you do. Thanks for the video.
Sure thing, more to come!
Sounds like a good adventure
Sure was, more to come soon.
Like others have commented, my inflatable air mattress is the Thermarest Xtherm (R6.9). They have a new one with an R7.3 rating, the model is NXT which is thicker, & lighter than previous version. Yes, it also has a higher price.
Thanks to you, I now have & wear Icebreaker Merino Wool garments
I, too, will be looking forward to the How/Why of specific items of gear.

A extensive gear list, very exiting to see the upcoming videos on specifics, how and why-s. It is of great value for us in the sport to share, compare and learn from others.
Thanks!
Can't wait to hear more!
Thanks!
Great video . Can't wait for the series to start . Glad you guys stayed safe . Nice gauge . Get some rest ..
Thanks 👍
Wow this is awesome! Thank you so much for putting this refined and experienced expedition list out there, looking forward to following the upcoming vids getting into it more.
More to come!
Agreed about Alti's. For $200 mittens sold as "expedition" mitts, they aren't all that warm. MAYBE 0F while active; less than that if not working. They are nice enough mittens but not exceptional. I would want something warmer for the Arctic.
Have you tried RBH Designs Vapor Mitts? They have a VBL and are reported to be excellent in super cold conditions.
The Altimitts were warm enough at the South Pole. But I'm 10 years older. I was fine standing there, it was the pressure against the ski poles. Not many ways around that. Will have to find some RBH mitts.
@@ALinsdau The Alti's that I bought (and returned) last year were not nearly as puffy as yours that you show in some of your other vids. Maybe they aren't what they used to be? In any case, I'm still looking for sub-zero mitts. I might try pogies; that looks like a promising design to use over my ski mittens.
Congratulations and Great job!!!!
I can’t wait for the new videos!
Thanks! Stay tuned for clips from Greenland and a discussion of gear.
Cool
Thanks for watching.
I totally connect with the frustration of having perfect, particular pieces of gear that are not made, offered or manufactured anymore. It almost feels like one needs to buy up stuff that is speculated to be discontinued, been doing that lately on NOS gear.
It's tough once I find something that works, I don't want to give it up.
I’d also like to hear more about those solar panels. Are they 5w? Is it powerfilm brand? What set up are you looking for improvement? Maybe you already have a video …
Interested in more information about the shotgun you took with you. I went to the Canadian sub-Arctic in 1997 and the natives loaned us a 12 gauge shotgun for the trip. Since that seems to be the anti-bear firearm of choice in locations where gun rights are restricted I really would like to learn as much as I can for upcoming trips. Thanks.
I rented a nearly all-metal Escort shotgun. The action release sticks out much farther and is easier to actuate with gloves on. I don't think there was any plastic on it. Be safe out there.
Hi Aaron, I know people who shun the Exped mattresses and swear by the Thermarest X-therm (because they have had bad experiences with mattresses coming apart in the field). That said I know that Exped have made a genuine effort to improve their products, and address these issues. I personally own an Exped Synmat 9, have used it for two trips each lasting about 6 nights in the snow, and I have not had any problems. Do you have any strong opinions on this? Which one is better for reliability and which one is better for comfort?
I have used my Exped 9 for 3 months in Antarctica, 1.5 months in Greenland, probably 2+ months net in the Sierras and Rockies. I'd say it's good.
I use the Xtherm on Denali, total of 3+ months usage there and elsewhere in Rockies. It's good, too.
Good video idea - thanks!
