It is wonderful to see you both creating content again. You have a gift for entertaining, educational, and instructional videos. Always look forward to the next one here in Naalehu. Aloha
Aloha from Orchidland! We are essentially doing the same with our farmstead, a Syntropic/silvo pasture type combo. We have Kunekunes so we lean more silvo. I love watching your videos, thank you for posting them!
Glad y'all are back!! I now have all the notifications on! I had just had a conversation with my daughter about a month ago about your channel. I said I haven't seen them in years...put out a video couldn't even remember the name of your channel so i went back in my history and scrolled for seemed like hours and finally found you. So I will go back bc you have obviously put one out b4 this one..? I didn't know you had a baby!!! So happy for you. Congrats! Take care, Lisa
Great video - you are inspiring me to do more in my garden. I want to share with you a plant called the elephant bush (Portulacaria afra). It is edible and PACKED with Vit C - a very useful plant that looks after itself. If you don’t have it already in your garden, it’s worth researching it out. Thanks for sharing your awesome garden with us - God bless your family.
Congratulations on becoming parents! I’m so happy to see you two doing well and back as your videos are inspirational as far as what we want to do to our Puna property. I’m sure we will all meet at the Makuu market at some point and talk🤙
I can tell you guys really take the time to work on your land. You have a real understanding and love for your property. It's fun to watch! I saw Mike in keaau about a week ago but didn't want to disturb him doing errands lol
Did you know inga fixes 3x more nitrogen than glyricidia? However you can purchase more vigorous rhizobium and innoculate your glyricidia to make it more efficient at fixing nitrogen. Leucaena aka haole koa fixes 20 times more nitrogen than inga, im going to trial it and see if its allelopathic compounds offset its amazing nitrogen fixing capabilities. Syntropic is so fun, its like a puzzle with endless combinations and spacing possibilities!
Thanks for the comment! Good metaphor, syntropic being like a puzzle. The reason I like to use gliracidia is because it grows very long and straight branches which can make chipping them really easy. I hadn’t really put much thought into how much nitrogen each plant produces so thank for that info. 😉 We use ice cream bean as well on the property but just not in this system as of now. Mahalo
Yeah inga is a lot harder to manage with hand tools than glyricidia. And glyricidia gives a more dappled light that's better for growing in close proximity to other plants like cacao. But inga is better for animal fodder. Personally I think albezia is the best, it's so easy to break up the branches and mulch it by hand.
So cool to see the progress made from earlier this year to now. Hawai’i is incredible. Crazy to see how fast the plant life grows. Love seeing what progress you guys are making on your land. Mahalo.
Great timing! we are actually in the process of making an update video for this video. Yes I did somewhat map this out on paper, I’ll be glad to share it. 😊

Interesting project. I'd love to see the results. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great job guys! I love using Jack beans in my syntropic systems and have plenty seeds if you want any just lmk. 🤙❤️
Yeah I saw you using them in one of your videos. It would be great to get some seeds 😊
I’m super interested in seeing if you mapped out the plantings here on paper first. Can you show us the paper plan?
Great timing! we are actually in the process of making an update video for this video. Yes I did somewhat map this out on paper, I’ll be glad to share it. 😊
What are all of the support plants you are utilizing? Possible video?
We just finished up an update video, most of the support plants are mentioned in it. 😊
Do you guys have any issue with pickle worm or blossom rot with the pumpkins?
Thanks for the video!
Not really with the pumpkins but with other things like cucumbers yes.
Awesome new project …. How many citrus trees ?
Thanks! 20 citrus trees 🌳
Do you have books you recommend for getting started? Thx for the informative vid!❤
Im actually looking for book recommendations too. I’ve just been watch RUclips to learn for now
was that vetiver grass you were trimming and placing? I have some on my property but it is very slow growing lol... 🤙🏼
No, it is lemon grass. I have the same issue with vetiver grass though, very slow growing in our yard. I think it needs a lot of sun and deep soil
Did you plant grafted citrus?
Yes all grafted trees 🌳
@@OffGridHawaii they will be delicious! thanks for the answer
What's the spacing between the rows?
Citrus rows are spaced 20ft apart and glaracidia (mulch) rows are in between the citrus rows
@@OffGridHawaii thank you
What was that giant leek looking plant u put where u wanted pineapples? Sounded like you said caulo or kualo i google diff ways nothing comes up
Kalo, but also called taro. it is a Hawaiian staple food
👋 hello!!!!!
Hi 👋
Why did you choose citrus instead of more tropical fruits?
Good question! We love citrus and think there should be more of it growing on the island. Maybe we can make a whole video about why citrus. 🍊 🍋
It's all a matter of procreation. Goed bezig!
Thanks 🙏
What about the marijuana plants? How are they growin....
Super cool guys. Great video, but it's killing me you weren't pulling out the mimosa pudica. It is my sworn enemy and I must destroy it.
Lol 😂 it will go away on its own when the soil is good, but I might have to pull some out if it starts attacking me
I pulled some out when Michael wasn’t looking 🤫 😂
