Bike racing has priced itself out of the majority of people. Me included. My days were 80's n 90s.
To be competitive its around $1000 a meeting for 600's. To me if your not competitive, it aint worth doing.
Thats if you don't crash or have engine issues
$15k for a bike, thousands to setup, then spare wheels, then spare gearing, riding gear etc
My son wanted to go MX racing, you want to be terrified, go price a new 80cc MX bike for a kid. It would be more than any bike in this video .

I loved Oran Park... was a great track and had some magic races there back in 250 proddy...
Shame to see its houses now... similar way that Amaroo went. except Amaroo isnt even houses, just mainly vacant land when you google earth it :(

Wakefield Park is still there . It is up to you young guys now. If you can't stimulate the local bike club - start your own. If you get into bed with the car guys you can use their money to do better.

The Honda VF1000R was a massive disappointment, everyone was expecting a step up from the CB1100R. Instead we got a top heavy pretender. Gorgeous and beautifully built but only good with a star rider to make up for their deficiency's. The four strokes must have all breathed a sigh of relief when the race was moved to Oran Park, in hindsight this was the beginning of the end for the six hour. I raced a KR250 (a horrible bike but fast as in 13.1 @ 100mph) that year and was planning which bike to race the following year, an RG500 was my choice but a GSXR would have been more competitive as I discovered. The RG was limited by the skinny rear wheel with the mufflers removing excess rubber even on a 160 Hi Sport Michelin. The bike was so good to ride I would still make the same choice and an RZ had no hope against one.

I raced a KR 250 in NZ in 84, I thought it was a sweet little bike, easily a match for the same year RG and RZ 250s. About 12 years ago i found one in the back of a dealers showroom, it was mint and they only wanted 3k for it, wish i'd got it, would love to have another.

Yes mate your comment is very good mail , I remember PD’ing the VF1000R at a Honda dealer in Perth ,and yep it was a long wallowing heavy but beautiful bike and Honda had to race the Vf1000F to try and get some wins , think the 6 hour at Oran park was a big let down after Amaroo which seemed more up close & personnel with riders & bikes .. production racing died when they went to a 1000cc limit . But thank ferk theres early 6 hour races on RUclips.

Even historic racing is absurd these days with all their rules which cause expense. We'd be better to run four divisions in capacity classes with only ONE cut-off date. Supermono, BOTT, Formulat 4 (4 cylinder bikes) Formula 2 (two strokes)

Gotta tell ya boys, the old Castrol Six hours where hard to watch, way too long to watch proddie bikes and it was just a demo day of shop bikes, race them Sunday and sell them Monday - got stuck infield as a flaggy at a Castrol 2 hour in about 81 before I started racing - most boring bike race I ever watched and I had a front seat track side.

+AusMecham I found even a two hour production race too long to watch in the old days. However the way road racing has gone these days, if we did proddie racing again, I would suffer in silence.

gotta tell ya pops, many people appreciate seeing their bike being raced as it was produced.

You can see them doing that in production sprint races.
