Official Announcement: George R.R. Martin Reveals A Major Update About House of the Dragon's Ending!

- Welcome back for another Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon update video. In this video, I will be going over George R.R. Martin's update about House of the Dragon's ending on his NotABlog website. In this post, George R.R. Martin revealed how many seasons House of the Dragon will have. According to George, House of the Dragon will need four full seasons to tell the story of the Dance of the Dragons, from start to finish. As you all know, HBO has already shortened House of the Dragon's second season. This will most likely impact the overall amount of episodes and seasons they have now. Francesca Orsi said they will make four seasons minimum, but maybe more! Let me know what you think down below. Thanks for watching!

Understandable that all the dragon scenes take up a lot of the budget, and the writers and production team may be exhausted with such a high scale TV production. But please, don't try and sell us on: "The season or pacing is better with less episodes"!
right!!!
Well it's matter of opinion, if 60mins x8 or 50mins x10 is better? Give or take few minutes either way in each episodes.
Put $ in get $ out. Give the ppl what they want.. I believe they don’t have what they need. If they did they wouls
Then they shouldn’t have done it
Disappointed with the ending again they always leave you on a cliff so much filler
Crazy how they shortened the season for the sake of “pacing” only for the pacing this season to be worse than the first season
I try not to complain about the show, but yes, the pacing seems off.
people really jus be yapping this season is paced way better than the first
2 BIG REASONS that this season was garbage . 1. The writers guild strike ,They were not allowed to rewrite the scripts, so they had to film the scenes as they were written without the possibility of any changes. 2 the departure of Saphochnik from writing and direction was a HUUGE blow to the quality of the show. Condall and Hess are the NEW D/D they destroyed the lore of the books this season , House of the dragon season 2 is on par with the awfulness of Got s8, for me theres no comeback from this ,they changed and altered sooo much from the lore that this show is not "based" on the books but more like "inspired", this season was on par of the awfulness of woke shows like The rings of powers a total shame.
But people forget that this doesn't have a massive budget like rings of power but with less than 20% of the rings of power budget they have managed to make a show that's far far far better than rings of power. And no matter what they did for HOTD people will moan and others will jump on that band wagon. When this is still the best thing currently on TV and is doing it all on a very limited budget, I hope they get a massive budget increase, if they had a billion like rings of power imagine what it would be like. Either way no matter what internet trolls and idiots that know nothing about the industry say, this is a fantastic program and far far better than anything else on with a small budget for such a massive show. Every dragon scene costs millions, people don't understand how hard it is to get right. That vermithor scene was absolutely top notch, that scene alone probably cost more than episode 5 or 6 in its entirety.
@@skoolboydes6680no shot.
I actually dont care how long it takes to be honest. I want them to do justice, to show all the battles and not change the actual plot
Same!!! But people sadly lack the patience…
They already changed lots of things
Too late they lost the plot
They already did the show with injustice with this season. So much filler bullshit.
Just follow the damn book..
“Go with the Gods” = Daemon spending an entire season tripping at the mercy of a witch
😂
They should've started at the beginning of the book, that would've guaranteed many seasons
I would have also preferred them to do the Targaryen history in order.
Would definitely had made more sense

Lol that man is 75 years old and morbidly obese. I hate it, but he is not gonna ever finish that book. Unless he's already finished it and wants to release it upon his death.
Honestly id rather see the fall of valyria before aegons conquest. would be super cool to see the other more powerful dragon lords. plus some of them would give birth to children that looked like dragons. soooo much magic in valyria
Can you imagine how much that will cost all those dragons like a 300 to 1000 all the beautiful buildings I really want to see a show about Old Valyria but there's not much information on it but with good writer's can be done
I’d like to see it as well, but on the other hand I like the mystique of it too.
That would be hella expensive if they're to stick with the quality they've been delivering in this Universe so far.
Aegon's Conquest, I can't wait for that.
I'd rather not. That's something better left to imagination
I'd just like a couple of questions answered. It seems highly unlikely that every dragon rider and dragon were at home when Valyria blew up. They had a huge empire and they traded with Essos and Westeros to the point they'd set up an outpost on Dragonstone. Was it spawning season or something?
Also, why don't the Targaryens seem to know anything about how dragons actually work? Why didn't they bring any smiths who know how to make Valyrian steel?

Big fan of the novel but bigger fan of the show. I actually think the pacing is incredible. To see what goes into this show in ‘The House that Dragons Built’ is absolutely absurd and most people couldn’t even dream of attempting the sort of production they have to execute for every episode. I know you can’t make everyone happy but it’s become apart of our culture to constantly complain about EVERYTHING even though half of us don’t have the credentials to do so- I’m just personally sick of everyone thinking they’re an expert in filmmaking or story development or even directing. These are all highly developed skills and assets that not any viewer can comprehend. This level of work is WAY more difficult than it looks and this show is absolutely going above and beyond. Hella amped for more HOTD. If you’re upset about every goddamn show you watch, go write your own or touch grass because some of these people sound so miserable all the time.
I enjoy The House Dragons Built also. Love the details.❤ Many talented people.😮
Totally agree with you!
@@CORVYX I'm sure most people dont take note of all the details. I watch the show over to see what I missed. I loved THDB explaining the outfits and armor, plus the making of the Valerian steel swords, daggers and armor. Just the embroidery on some of the ladies gowns is intensive. I'm totally impressed at the set details and how they dont use computers that much.
A truer statement had never been said
FACTS!!!!!
Starting to think they should have only gone 2-3 seasons for HoT D.
It should have been ONE season, done as a mini series. There is literally no reason for 3 seasons let alone 5, considering the story material is incredibly short compared ASOIF. A 12 episode 1 hour long mini series would have been perfect.
There’s just way too much unnecessary scenes-like multiple episodes of daemon losing his mind in harrenhal. We get it, he feels remorse, but we don’t need 4 episodes to drive that point home. And we don’t need multiple episodes of Rhaenyra moping about. Or Aemond (my fave) just brooding around.
@@missym877 hmm so when denearys burn kings landing people said it need more episode for her going mad..jezz calm your tits.
Did you not pay attention? They couldn't AFFORD to do more than 2 major battle/CGI scenes a season. If it was only 2/3 seasons they'd have to skip basically everything, and then you lot would complain about that lmfao.
@@Red1Green2Blue3 exactly! If they shortened it like these guys want then character and story would have to take a backseat to spectacle. That’s why the ending of GOT was so bad.
@@missym877that would be nonsensical. People have complaimed even in first season that the time skips are confusing, imagine if they fit the whole of Dance into just one season.
5 seasons... so 2030... idk if I'll still be alive by that time.
Time to move on, I guess.
Yea hahahah
This is exactly how I feel. Lol
byebye, nobody will miss ur nagging and complaining
How old are you, 90? Are you dying now? I HATE this kind of negativity!
you'll be fine. It'll be in 2030 in a blink of an eye.
I'm sorry but 8 episodes isn't a "season". Especially when "seasons" take two YEARS plus, to produce.
DAMN RIGHT!!!!!
S2 will end with King's Landing
S3 will start with Gullet - Honeywine - Red Fork/Fishfeed - Butcher's Ball - Tumbleton 1
S4 will start with Tumbleton 2 - Storming of Dragonpit - Dragonstone event - God's Eye - Kingsroad - Coronation.
some timelines will be changed
tbh.. i don't understand why they didn't start with Aegon's conquest...
season 1: Aegon's conquest + short reign of Aenys + Maegor, ending with Jaehaerys + Alyssane
seasons 2-4: The Dance of Dragons
seasons 5-7: all 5 Blackfyre Rebellions + Dunk & Egg sidequests
season 8: Robert's Rebellion
If you thought S7 & 8 was rushed and utilised teleporting armies then your suggestion would be that on steroids lmao.
@@Red1Green2Blue3 I think I only half agree with you, HotD shouldve definitely started with Aegon's conquest, a season- maybe 2 covering each major time period told in F&B with the Blackfyre Rebellions being told as almost episodic short stories, leave out Dunk & Egg for their own series like is currently happening and yeah, eventually come full circle with Robert's rebellion being shown. Im just not sure if THIS is the span of time that would work.
They tried to film a show set 1000 years before GoT. There are still photos on the internet. But it got way too expensive so it was chopped.
@@Red1Green2Blue3 why do you say that? Only 1st Blackfyre rebellion was a serious civil war, the rest ended up fast some even with a duel... and 1 season is more than enough for Aegon's conquest / Robert Rebellion
@@jaxzor Common sense, that's why I said it. People's #1 complaint about S7 & 8 was that it was rushed with people and armies teleporting around so that they could be in position.
You want to have entire wars in 10 episodes? Not feasible without teleportation.
I hope we don't have to wait till 2026 to watch season 3... I love the pacing of the episodes, but it was such a long wait for these 8 episodes.

@@AstariaDaynethem coming back was awesome. They were the two stand outs of season 1. I feel they could have done a single capsule episode for Daemon and it would have landed sooo much better.
@Asdfghkdhhdj
If you think it served no purpose, you're a literal moron with a child's understanding of character development
It was kind of a case of giving him something to do while not actually doing anything. The books can cover months in a few sentences because it's a historical outline. He went to Harrenhal, then a bunch of other stuff happened to everyone else, and he met up with them later.
I personally don’t want to see more than one majors battle per season. Give the writers time to put it together, but give the characters time to anticipate what’s happening. Let it all come to a head. Early GOT was like a tapestry. Everybody and their stories a thread that would eventually weave in and out of someone else’s story. Let’s do that here.
@Asdfghkdhhdj This season wasn’t as good as season 1 but they have plenty of time to redeem themselves.
That's you personally. so many people have been whining all season that they're watching to see dragons fight and there's not been enough of it. You can't please everyone.
@@Red1Green2Blue3 that’s also true it’s a compromise for sure. The whole Daemon nonsense got old quick, it was our character and just dragged on. That being said if we had all the dragons fighting in seasons 1 and 2 but everyone wants 5 or 6 seasons than what are we doing? No we can’t please everyone but at the same time a little logic and common sense. Everyone from GOT hated the lack of build up in the decline. We can’t then say “there’s not enough action and to much talking.” Like we can’t have it both ways.
Bro , forget all this, HOW is Winds still not out??? 😂
This is crazy with 2 years in between seasons. 10 years to release only 5 seasons, not cool, they are not doing the fans justice. By this point in time for GOT we got 3 satisfying seasons and they were already filming the fourth. Idk what changed and I know they had to strike but enough is enough, they gotta pull their heads outta their asses at HBO.
Agreed. I don't understand the long gaps between the seasons. GoT had more actors and story lines and they still managed to come out with more episodes faster. Very frustrating
What changed ? GoT was cheap to shoot, only like 1 or 2 huge battles in first 4 seasons and only 3 dragons with only Drogon being on screen usually. It's that simple.
the thing about the strikes is that season 2 was already written and ready to film, the actors from HOTD were NOT SAGAFTRA because they’re unionized by a different group that’s exclusive to Europe. the rule is that the European actors guild/union can still shoot if the US actors guild/union is striking because they’re not the same and they’re not connected. the dragon CGI is also an unhinged amount of expensive so it’s very unlikely HBO is going to greenlight all of the important parts without a guarantee of monetary return, which was their downfall because they’re going to lose it all because of the s2 finale. so many people are abandoning the show because it’s clearly not doing the book justice and GRRM has expressed his dislike of that.
@@tvojemankaGOT had 3 dragons with the same CGI structure with very few major CGI battles versus a show 100% based off of dragons and battles, the budget isn’t the same at all because the need is bigger and HBO is probably scared to give that huge budget GOT had after they tanked the last few seasons.
We only waited a year for HOD S2
They are already stretching it too much. As a result, the dialogue is stale, too much scenery and filming of random shadows and corners of halls and not enough storyline. Don't let me start on the extended pauses between each sentence to stretch the show to an hour.
They already have cut out/altered important scenes and characters.
My issue is that the dialogue is weak a lot of the times.
I didn’t notice the pauses but I am probably going to start noticing 😂

This season has been great. I know everyone wants violent action packed and thrilling episodes with shocking deaths but that is feckless, ill considered, trifling. 😂 I just hope we're not forced to wait more than 16 months for season 3
George also said that D & D could've got 11 - 13 Seasons of the Original G.O.T. Series from the Book Material. But, D & D only got 4 Seasons. They ignored a lot of GOOD stories from the Book Material in the Original Series. The "Lady Stoneheart"(Catlin Stark) Storyline, is one example.
Aegon Targaryen, Victarion and Euron Greyjoy, the Dornish plot, Stannis, Pink letter.
Who cares what GRRM says? It's now what? 5 years out from the end of S8. Even if we'd got 13 seasons (today) we'd still be at the end without tWoW completed so its irrelevant. GRRM hasn't even got to the middle of "Lady Stonehearts" narrative journey himself!!

These hallucinations are actually an insanely important lore reveal about harrenhall/weirwoods.
You should watch some Michael Talks About Stuff discussions about this.
@@Grewyn7exactly, this fan base is so spoiled. Complaining about everything, without a single deeper though why it may be.
Even with the cost of the battles, the show should still be complete in 4 seasons. Unless Ryan creates arcs (like Daemon's arc this season?) to extend the show to 5 seasons. Does that mean a new season every 2 years? That is also unacceptable, especially as GOT managed to appear every April till season 8. And a full 10 episodes. And there were battles as well.
@Asdfghkdhhdj and SIGNIFICANTLY less CGI which is what makes these seasons take so long. As soon as CGI became a huge element (S7 & S8) production time ballooned. What's ironic is so many people have been complaining about not enough dragon fighting. More dragon battles will mean longer production times and less episodes due to cost.
I doubt that *only 8 episodes* was a "creative decision" done by the showrunner.
Nowadays every streamer forces their shows to have less and less episodes, because "number of people who watched a complete season until the end" is an important factor for their ratings of shows, and of course more people finish a season when there are less episodes. ^^
Soon we gonna have three-episode seasons... 😂🤣🤦♂🤦♂
My dude, the ending leaked
this season 2 is GOT S7 levels of bad
And I hate that people defend it on"but dragon battles". That's exactly the key jangling that brought GOT down, dialogue is clumsy and unwitty, characters are one note and the narrative is just gone downhill
i get the feeling the co producer just cut costs by 2 episodes to gain a year end bonus.
maybe. However, you gotta understand the logistical hoops they went thru this season to make some things happen (non-verbatim from one of the past documentaries). those increased costs. easy for us viewers to nitpick without insider knowledge. you cant just spend infinitely and go above budget.thats how you get terminated.

They need to make season 3 , 10-12 episodes to give us the full story . Shortening the season doesn’t do it any good at all & they need to stop deferring from the book so much .. what’s the point of doing a series if you’re not going to do it right ? Daemon’s character was wasted this whole season I think too .. he didn’t need to be at Harrenhal that whole time .. especially if they’re going to only give us 8 episodes 🤷🏻♀️.. you shorten the season then get to the main point of the season .. we could’ve got to see the battle of the gullet & the taking of kings landing .

the problem with hotd for me is . i could care less for the minor characters from minor houses. in GOT even tertiary characters like Brienne, Theon, and the Hound is very interesting to follow. even smaller characters like Bronn Podrick and Shae.

We should remember the best GoT seasons were slowly paced and had time to breathe. HoD taking 5 seasons makes sense, but they need to get back to consecutive yearly seasons so we can end the show by 2029.

Never...it's best you accept that and move on. I have and it honestly has been for the better.
He won't. When people get old, MOST humans minds "crystallize". They can remember with great detail things they've done and ideas they had when they were 30, 40, 50 years old. But most cannot be creative, come up with new ideas, or new ways of thinking without heroic effort (edit) once they pass 65- 70 ish. This is, IMO, why GRRM keeps going back to ideas and stories and backstories he came up with 20 years ago. I bet he has sat in front of his typewriter/computer and stared at the blank page for an hour trying to come up with ANYTHING new to flesh out ASOIAF. Frustratingly, he can't. I just really hope they include Treason at Bitterbridge with Daeron Hugh and Ulf some point next season I believe that’s a pivotal part of the dance of dragons especially with them ending this season with the red sowing and riots in kings landing they should also keep the gold cloaks aiding daemon and rhaenyra in taking kings landing
They should’ve promoted it better and not saying it war time when it clearly wasn’t.
Season 1 planting the seeds of war.

@Asdfghkdhhdj "Anyone who doesn't agree with me is a shill", learn a new line.
It's awful. I love the universe GRRM created but the HoTD writers are shite.
I have never clicked on an alert so fast...😂😂😂
Just to prevent over speeding they stretched unnecessary plotlines way too much Daemon's Rehab, Rhaenyra trying to prevent war, Alicents guilt trip etc way too long except for B&C and rook's rest there was nothing significant
I thought the writers said HBO was the reason the season was shortened?
House of the Dragon Season 1 cost HBO about $200 million to make, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if they shortened it.
I'm not sure what made GRRM think they needed 40 episodes to do HOTD. It does make me think that he gave up on trying to finish TWOW though.
don't hope for TWOW. That's gone. We're never going to get that
Obviously. It's been over a decade
You could do 40 episodes. Jace does an awful lot more. There are battles and characters they're cutting (and not necessarily the big budget ones). There are many places affected by this war, though you wouldn't know it watching the series. Helaena does more than look tragic and give out prophecies.
Idk why people are freaking out about 2 years between seasons, Breaking Bad final season had a 2 year gap, so did Game of Thrones season 8 (2 year gap for 6 episodes????).
Stranger Things had nearly 2 years between season 2 and 3, as well as a 3 year gap for season 4.
Rings of Power also had a 2 year gap between seasons.
Season 3 HOTD is going to have some massive battles in it, with multiple full grown CGI dragons, the first 4 seasons of GOT had like 1 or 2 medium sized battles? Even Robbs war against the Lannisters had no screen time. I'd rather they take their time so we get some quality content, HBO dragons are without a doubt the best looking thing CGI has ever produced.
We all agree 2 years is absurd - regardless of which show it is
Those "medium sized battles" in GoT were among their best episodes. It wasn't necessarily the big CGI elements, either. Watchers on the Wall was very well done. Blackwater was a LOT of dialogue and setup and I loved that about it. You felt the anticipation. The scale was even conveyed by dialogue in several places.
Hundreds will die!
Thousands.
This was also made possible by good writing around those episodes. If we didn't "know" the Hound by then we'd think him a coward. We spent time with Ygritte so it had impact when she died and Jon had to keep going anyhow. We'd seen Castle Black look so formidable yet here it was breached and broken.
There's a lot of that lacking here, and it's happening in other series as well.
@@arisucheddar3097 I don't disagree that they were great episodes for GoT but quality writing doesn't equate to long production time. Just because these HOTD battles are large scale battles doesn't mean i think they will be good it's just the nature of the battles itself is grand in scale, hence the long production time.
I'm not attached to any characters like GOT. I don't know if it can retain my interest with 2 years between seasons. Sad to say. Sounds like GRRM has lost interest in the quality.
People who were entertained and satisfied with this season are crazy as deamon
If he wanted 40 hours, he should have wrote more.
We need some good battles that they had in the original. It’s missed the mark on battles that last pretty much the episode . The Watchers on the Wall & The Battle of the Bastards were some of the best Choreographed battles I’ve ever seen on screen in a fantasy show.
You can thank the departure of Miguel Sapochnik for that one. I feel exactly the same.
They don't even have to be high action battles. Some events in HotD are just spooky as described. But I think at this point Butchers Ball will be altered. Battles will be shuffled around in the timeline. They may even make a "fan favorite" or two survive for no logical reason.
My expectations are subverted and shaken, and not in a good way.
@@arisucheddar3097 your explanations were dead on I would say. Probably one of the worst finales as far as action in any good series to date.
Okay, fine... If you can't afford to make a series like that, why even start? Haven't we learned anything from GoT? Milking this part of the story, when we know these writers can't write if their lives depended on it, will only make HotD more hideous than GoT.
Caraxes prefers pigs instead of sheep. All other dragons prefer sheep. And that was wholesome, if you know, you know.
Can we just reset the whole word back to 2012 or something⁉️ Back when every new tv show had at least 20 episodes per season and dropped a new season twice per year?? Damn. We cant enjoy anything anymore.
The sad truth is that ink is less expensive than actors, special effects, and CGI
It’s not story driven it was because of the writers strike let’s be real here
I never read the books so that aspect doesn’t intrigue me. I do not imagine it going for five seasons. I find it often hard to follow, too slow, confusing about who is killing who and who is having sex with who
ill just start reading the books, fk it
I haven’t been keeping up with the GOT universe…..but I could’ve swore George passed away…..I’m shocked to learn he is still alive(thank god) ….not trying to be funny or jinx him…but I’m serious…I sincerely remember him passing away
IIIRC he said GoT could've went 10+ seasons if they didnt cut so much content, he did relent and understand that the writers and actors would lose interest. TLDR George has no say on how long this show will go, only Condal and the HBO execs will make that decision
As a fan i agree, but it's a bit rough if we should expect them to be able to so intimately close to George during this time, besides I would rather them concentrate on Winds of Winter anyway, personally anyway.
The WB execs are all in on GRRM, they have like 7 shows in development according to GRRM himself. I think 4 are animated which makes it much cheaper. But they are going in hard. Too hard probably.
Exactly, I feel like they are possibly not giving him the respect or authority as he feels he deserves . After all he said it clearly, it's his universe.
Yeah! We got cheated out of 2 episodes this season!
I'm thinking the "go with the gods" statement is more of a blessing when that's all they can afford to do for whatever story point being discussed.
Pacing is the reason? Thank God it's not ten episodes then, I can only take so many dumps while Daemon is hallucinating.
I love that so many people yap on about changing things from the books when the books are "written" from the perspective of two maesters and mushroom. All of whom have different allegiances and alliances, allowing creative space for what they perceive to be true events and the show to present the "real" events.
Remember how well it worked out for s7 and s8 of GoT...
just because grrm said it needs to be so many episodes doesn't mean it will be
At least we’re getting “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in between the wait.
you still have faith they will do that show justice?
@@bandoogiemanz I don’t think House of Dragon was as bad as everyone said, to be honest
Lack of big events made season 2 somewhat flag and slow
I imagine doing a show like this can be exhausting for everyone involved. So having shorter sessions can prevent people from getting burned out.
Episode 8 gonna be more fun for the backlash this season (rightly) will get.
fourth season comes out in the year 3000.
Yea cause GRRM really understands timetables… and project completion best….
Problem is, I don’t really care about any of the characters
Hey only had one DAMN HALF BATTLE! THAT WAS AT ROOKS REST!! THERE HAS NOT BE ANY DAMN BATTLE YET
HBO should get the cgi company. That did Godzilla - 1 to do the dragons. They did the film with a $15m budget.
Damn! Saw the thumbnail and got hyped George made a TWOW book release announcement, cuz the title didnt fully show. Ive said before, I honestly feel you will be one of the first with that crucial announcement. 😊
I thoroughly enjoyed season 2. There was a lower amount of action but tons of set up to something bigger. The acting was great and it felt like GOT in terms of tone and scope
Finish the books instead.
