Old man rant: I’ve had an SD-1 on my board since 1985. I own many boutique overdrive pedals and I like them a lot. However the SD-1W is the best of all of them . If you don’t own one you’re missing out!
The SD1 is imo, best used in front of a dark amp. The SD1 tends to cut the lows and mids. I have a.... I guess "unique" suggestion. Get a blues driver and a 10 band eq. On the blues driver, give a slight cut to level and drive. Then have the blues driver go into the eq. On the eq, bump up the master level, and cut 125 and 250. Then give a slight boost to 2k and 4k. The signal chain is. Guitar, BD, EQ and then amp. from there, you can simply adjust the the gain with the level on the blues driver, and your guitar's volume pot. Edit: You and I have different styles, so you might not like it 😅 But you never know.
That was my first overdrive pedal back in the 80's and I recently came back home to the SD-1 Waza Craft. It bumped my Maxon OD808 off my board. Sounds much better with my Friedman Small Box amp than the Tube Screamer did. I think the Waza SD-1 is the last overdrive pedal I will buy. It is the sound in my head and the sound I grew up with.
SD-1 was my first pedal, after owning many klon clones, blues breaker. RAT, Benson preamp, and even a real KOT I've just gone back to The boss over and over again. It sounds great on my high gain Blackstar/Marshall and even my clean Fender Hot Rod. Like many have said. The OD market is oversaturated and most boutique pedals are just selling bloating and bragging rights. You cant go wrong with The SD-1 specially with it being under $100
@@JordanSteele I am 57 and this was my first overdrive. I got it in 1986! I just retired it recently as the light finally failed! Boss are underrated. Maybe because of the true bypass thing. If you have too many buffers,it starts to suck tone a bit! But a couple of boss pedals in your rig! Magic!
@@JordanSteele Of course! Put it in a loop. But one pedal in your rig won't do much. In fact if the pedal is first in your chaine, the buffer can be an advantage!
@JordanSteele I had one in the late 80's. Stupidly, I sold it, a guitar and amp I wish I could have back now that my dad is gone. It was my first complete set up.
Another old man rant: Try them out and return them?????? That's a scumbag move! You buy it you deal with it. Sell it used. Now the retailer has to take a loss. American consumers have lost all of their morals in the last 15 years!
Yes, I agree totally with that since nobody wants someone else's greasy carpet dust, crumbs, bedbugs or boogers for that matter on their "Brand New" BOSS pedal now, do they? Some of us are smart enough to protect our electronics with SURGE PROTECTION strips while others do not so, I DON'T want someone's thoughtless used, dirty and internally damaged junk if I paid for it as "New" too.

What do you think about the sound of the Boss SD-1?
Sounds good with a Plexi or JCM800 style amp. I did not like it with my Jubilee, probably because it already has clipping diodes in the circuit.
Definitely! I can totally see that. Also I find the jubilee naturally has pushed mids so there was probably too much high mids when combined
Had mine from 1990-2014 I regret selling it. Your intro sounded great Nice soloing 💫🎸🔉🔊🎶🎶🎵🎶💪

The overdrive pedal market is way over saturated anyway. This is all you need.
🤘
Mighty fine playing, Jordan.

That sounds like an awesome tip! I’ll definitely try that in the future. What’s your style btw?

Mostly metalcore. 2000s to be specific. But I also love making very spacious and ambient sounds as well.

Nice playing man and nice pedal too
Thanks dude!
SD-1 into an Orange Dark Terror is God-tier like tone. The feel, response is ideal.
This pedal is basically free in the secondhand market and sounds so good.
Oh that’s good to know. I hadn’t checked the used market on these. It does sound awesome!
I have the Super Overdrive SD-1 and I use it most and with other distortion pedals
That’s a good combo 🤘

This and whichever TS is all the OD anyone will ever need 💯👍🏻

I have a Tube screamer,A bad Monkey,a modded Blues Driver and a Boss SD1. The Boss Sd1 is my go to amongst my od pedals
sd1 is perfect with marshall😊just perfect.
Absolutely 🤘
I'll take a Boss SD1 over a tube screamer, day day of the week!
Oh wow! Yeah it’s definitely very nice🤘

What gauge strings? Awesome sound👍
Thanks! 9-42. I’m tuned a half step down.
Great channel learned some cool stuff, thanks 👍
I need to find a used old orange Boss distortion pedal
I believe you’re referring to the ds-1. Those definitely capture the old school heavy guitar tones!
@JordanSteele I had one in the late 80's. Stupidly, I sold it, a guitar and amp I wish I could have back now that my dad is gone. It was my first complete set up.
@JordanSteele I do have the last acoustic guitar he got me, and I've written 300 plus songs on it.
They're almost the same circuit. SD has asym clipping, tweaked gain value in the clipping stage, and tweaked filter values for the tone section.
