- They all really get into it here....you can tell they really love performing....check out a young Richard Elliot jammin on the sax...love it at 3:15 when the horns kick it up a notch.....
l recorded this from my TV back in ‘84? and have enjoyed it ever since from my cassette. It had got me into Tower of Power and l have seen the changing line-up develop. Thanks guys for a brilliant few decades of great music.
More than 5 decades, timeless exciting Soul / jazz X
"Some days were meant for rain" one of their most underated ballards.
Loved them from the beginning!!! The fabulous TOP❤️
My favorite band ❤️🇭🇷❤️
Mine too!!🎶❤️🎶
Thank God we have TOP for 44 years! Tremendous musicians. If there was a real rock hall like the NFL has theirs TOP would have been there already
Thank God for Tower! I saw Ellis and Richard Elliot when they BOTH toured with Tower in the eighties.
My dad was a white conservative of Norwegian decent, a scientist, loved the sound of the original big bands and he loved TOP, and especially the TOP horns. When he passed unexpectedly at the age of 94 he was still listening, still enjoying TOP.
❤😊❤
Saw TOP in LA several years ago doing a benefit for Rocco, post surgery. Ellis was on B3 and lead vocals. It was CHURCH !!
100 plus club...since 71... lenny and tom were the best singers
anybody not thinking Ellis was TOP's greatest singer ever just needs to drink this video in. This is a clinic in soul singing.
Love love love this performance!!!!!!
No better horn section EVER!!! T O P is as fresh today as they were back in day.
💜💗💞Ellis Hall and TOP 🎶
Love, love, love Ellis Hall and my favorite band TOP!!!!
That Ellis is one heck of a great singer!! I don't mean good, I mean he is one of the baddest cats period!!
Brent
Lenny Williams was good too! GBY. Jim
I just turned 60. Saw this group in Seattle, but I can't remember exactly when...1/2-zeimers! I KNOW THIS SOUND! It's what I grew up on. Oh, so, sweet!
Great Great Great soul vibes.
I have really enjoyed all of TOP's lead singers for the unique talents they bring to the group. BUT, LB is a monster! The baddest cat in all the land. TOP the baddest funk band EV ER.
Richard Elliot & Tower Of Power This Time Is Real.. great arangement..w/Ellis Hall..
Richard Elliot on sax, too. Been a fan since '73 and wish I'd been there! Frikin' A I do!
These Cats Got Soul,With Hot Sauce And All The Seasoning !
I thought this was Stevie Wonder on lead vocals, wow!
Yep. Stevie just sings a little higher.
Me, too!! Guess he wore the special shades to fool folks into thinking they were actually viewing one of Stevie's badd ass tunes? Looks like he actually fooled a few of us!!?
one great tower of power singer complimenting another. This is too much for a TOP superfan. BTW, thanks for sitting in with my band Soul Be it.
Saw them live at The Bottom Line when Ellis was still with them for the Power Alblum. Richard Elliot actually had to re-program Ellis Halls DX-7 before they could start. They smoked from the opening song. Richard Ellliot made sea gull sounds on his sax during his solo and bugged everyone out.
ellis hall - holy shit! one of the best EVER
Great Band! Great Singer!
This is a superb performance of TOP. I just can't believe those fools are sitting down! Hands down a great vocalist also!
Love ❤️ it
Tower of power ....one of a kind!!!
very good..excellent...congratulations for this video
Yes Ellis Hall! Oh my! He ruled Jacks in Cambridge Mass in the 70s!
It’s like Stevie Wonder meets Tower of Power! So cool!
This version of the song is crazy good...so much "live" energy. Rocco could probably be arrested in several states for grooving this hard. lol
Last year i was in jazz at my school and i got to play a ton of songz with Mic Gellette and Tom politzer, it wass soooooo fun
can you imagine the Tightest horn section and the funkiest band of all time has only had 2 big hits......Your still a youngman and "So very hard to go"
HOWEVER musicians know how great the TOP is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lenny Williams Best front man for tower of power the band was at is Best
Band is still hot Lenny made you feel it all over amazing vocals great font man
TOP could never find a better guitar player than Dennis McMurrin.
good singer..a lot of stevie wonda in him....
Man i though the studio was bad, this one is really slammin!!!
Yes !
I loved Larry but nobody beats Ellis as a front man!
I've played this song with Mic Gillette!!!!!!!!! I played bari sax on it!!!! and i was in 8th grade =] =] =]
It looks like The Maintenance Shop at Iowa State University.I dont know the year.Middle eighties?
five original members in this version of the Tower - and credit to this band: about 6 singers they have had killed this tune - its a dream to wail on, a are a few. My alternate picks are Michael Jeffries (24 great studio tracks w ToP in release), Larry Braggs now for sure, McGee was best on this tune and By Your Side by Cliff Coulter.
PS at least on his hit tune, how heavy was the return to the mic of Rick Stevens? I thought, very
@trane1959 Ellis was Great, But Lenny Williams was the GREATEST that ever sang for tower.
Rick Stevens :)
woooooww, ellis hall is the shit! george benson on keyboards!
How great would it be to see Dennis McMurrin playing with TOP as he should be....?
Could somebody tell me where I can get a copy of the Tower of Power live at Iowa State University video please :-))
Any idea of the venue? TV special?
I think this was shot at some point in the late '70s/early '80s.
...who was playing between doc and greg? ...and...who was on keyboards???
Even the stiff conservative Iowa state crowd had to applaud after that performance!
who was the drummer?
@trane1959 larry braggs...
@gittahfiend God Bless Lenny...gpro125
@DRWJD In Holland they got more hits!
I patted Ellis on the back once after a show.
Wish Steve Gadd would get with them and do some tunes.
None better
