    the "why i’m not buying a 2024 hobonichi" really caught my attention cuz i’ve been obsessing over it for the past few days but couldn’t get myself to buy it cuz of how expensive it is. and i’ve come to the conclusion that i want my bullet journal to be 50% planning and 50% journaling/commenplace! i’ve been searching for ppl with this type of set up and i’m genuinely so happy to have found you 🥹 no joke i just ordered a midori (w/ grids cuz i can’t write straight w/o lines lol) and the uniball pens :')
    thanks for the inspiration! i look forward to more videos 💞

    A "commonplace" book is not about thoughts, that's a journal. Commonplacing is collecting information from other sources about a particular topic and putting them all together in a commonplace.

      excellent way of phrasing it! i've only ever seen it in passing on instagram so i've just adapted it to my own needs. thanks for the clarification 💞

    you may think this is silly, but this is eye-opening for me lol. It's made me realize how little I've leaned into the journaling aspect of bullet journaling and while making a functional planner with decorative themes for my bullet journals has been working for the last few years, it's just okay. I think I'm gonna try incorporating more of the commonplace journal pages into mine for next year because I feel like lately I've just been letting the things I like pass by without me actual documenting that I liked them and then I forget.

      100%!! i think that commonplace pages have really made my current journal fit for me, especially since i've never really been one for monthly spreads or habit trackers. i also like that i still have some flexibility since the pages aren't all laid out for me ahead of time.

    hi seo! i've been watching your videos since your 'how i take notes' video (from 2016!- which is insane to me). i've also been bullet journaling since 2016, and as a fellow woman in stem it's been so so lovely seeing your journey from high school to college and beyond. i loved this video, it got me very excited to set up my own bujo for 2024

    I love your ideas. I can relate to your needs and your sense of aesthetics. Most of all, you make this work for you. You're not a slave to the bullet journal.

    Never silly but a wonderful alternative into planning. I have been hitting a wall on how to make my own planner for 2024 and I find it very overwhelming when seeing other people's planner. But yours is not only simple but also clean. I'm going to try to use your method so thank you for making this video

    super simple, but also super fun setup, your creativity has alwways surprised me, and it's somewhat comforting to see you still pull it off with a minimalistic (?) approach without having to put much efforts into it. A little question: do you fill the commonplace pages as you go?

    • @tbhstudying
      @tbhstudying  10 месяцев назад +2

      yes! some commonplace spreads take a week for me to fill since it takes time for me to read articles and books, learn new facts, watch new documentaries, etc etc. i'll just leave the ribbon bookmark in an unfinished spread and come back to it when i have something new to add!

    hey! loved the flip through and the chatting over the journals. as an idea, you could consider getting the muji weekly planner? they've got a horizontal layout on the left page similar to the minimalistic spreads you made, and the right side is a grid page for notes. i use one and thought you might want to check it out if you liked the horizontal layout :D

      i was gonna suggest this! You could get it after you finish this notebook

      i've used the muji weekly planner in 2021 or 2020, but what ended up not working for me was the lack of blank pages for me to work with! i wanted like, 50 extra blank pages in the book HAHA but maybe when i start med school and don't have enough time to make these spreads, i'll go back to my OG one!

    This choice seems like the best of both worlds to me and still gives you the flexibility to do a creative page if you have some downtime. I think a Hobonichi is too structured for me, I love having a notebook that allows maximum flexibility. For my January 2024 weekly spreads, I decided not to lay out all of my weeks in advance. In fact, we were already 2 weeks into the month before I finished setting up my journal, so I didn't need pages for all 5 weeks. But I was trying some new spreads - one for language study & one for meal plans (most of what I need is annual or monthly) and I already dislike what I came up with for meal plans. So this weekend, I'll be laying out next week's spreads and I'll be changing up the menu layout for sure. I might also change the language spread. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. Hobonichi's seem to be the shiny new toy right now and this was so helpful for me to understand the differences between it and the type of journal I'm using already. 🙂

    Always love seeing a new video from you! I was also contemplating getting the hobo weeks since I don't have a lot of tasks to do each day, but I decided to wait till the april 2024 release to come since idk how busy my year will be besides the fact that I'll be in my final year of uni😅 I love the midori md notebooks and have used the a5 & a6 grid versions in the past and I love their durability and paper quality! I wanted to try out the blank paper version but throught it would be easier to see any potential ghosting, but seeing your posts it seems to look better than I thought :) Also, do you have any recs for uniball jetstream alternatives? Just in case it becomes difficult to purchase in the future (this has happened to me before when i like a particular stationery item ToT). Anyways, amazing video, happy belated birthday and happy "end-of-year-time"❤

    • @tbhstudying
      @tbhstudying  10 месяцев назад +2

      i will 100% admit that the midori paper ghosts, especially if you use wet, inky pens. it's not that bad with the jetstreams since ballpoint ink is inherently drier (more oil-like, almost) than gel ink or fountain pen ink, and i also use thinner nibs like 0.5 mm or 0.38 mm. if the grid paper hasn't bothered you, then i think you'll find a similar performance with the blank midori md paper, but it was definitely something i had to adjust to.
      as for alternatives to the jetstream, i unfortunately haven't found another ballpoint that rivals it..... the tombow mono graph ballpoints are too dry and skippy, the monami 153 ballpoints are too skinny for my grip, the pentel rsvps and any bic variety are too chunky in the tip (even for the smaller sizes), and the zebra bLen pens aren't perfect either. i'll keep you posted if i find something better though!

    very similar to the muji a6 and a5 planners! this layout personally does not work for me,
    but if anyone likes this layout but doesn't want to fill out the months and weeks everytime,
    you should try the muji planners out!

    i used to do vertical weekly spreads for time blocking but recently have been using them as a weekly spread for...everything. i've also been eyeing the hobonichi but i know i just wont use it. my ideal system changes all the time due to work, study, life that it just makes sense for me to stick with my flexible bujo.

    I've done this method for years, and it's been really great in many ways, but the task of "setting up" my monthly, weekly, and daily layouts has been way too much for me. That's why I'm finally biting the bullet (hah) and getting the hobonichi. I love how your using your journals for other things though. I'll definitely do this to close out my current journal.

    Ive been having trouble sticking to a planning method this past year. I love seeing your spreads and the way you plan bc it always gives me inspiration!! I bought a muji undated weekly planner thats very similar to how you lay your spreads out (weekly spread on the left, blank page on the right) and Im excited to experiment with it in 2024!

    Seo! You're in medical school now? I've been subscribed to you since I was around 16 - I'm 21 now - and you were a big motivator in me taking my studies seriously in high school, which actually allowed me to get into my dream medical school for university (in Australia, medicine at the MD level can be done as an undergraduate degree). We've interacted a few times in your Discord, but after I got into uni, I dropped off keeping up with you but hearing the opening of your video has made me so proud. Frankly, it's only natural the person who inspired me to go to med school gets into it herself. I'm 4 years in now, but every time I take notes on my iPad, get compliments on my handwriting, or open my journal, I think of you.
