this is exactly how I would have done it if I programmed undertale. since programmers like me are too lazy to actually make the sprite teleport around in that room.
I found that DeltaRune chapter 1 answered this question with a firm "yes!". There are doors all around the place with what look like flames coming out from underneath them. When you interact with them, they can teleport you to other locations. Now take a look at the door to Sans' room... same thing, door with flames underneath.
@@TheGooseOfChaos perhaps, but it's most likely that he can't travel between undertale and Deltarune, he just travels within universe, that's also why there's that inaccessible door behind his shack. If you enter sans’s room, it’s just a normal room. I think it’s supposed to be a funny thing to get you thinking, but in reality it’s a normal door and a normal (messy) room.
I always saw it more as a connection to the concept of Hammerspace, where Sans can basically move anywhere, so long as where he is and where he's going are currently unseen.
talking with doggo immediately after lunch with sans gives a line about how sans sometimes 'appears without moving', which pretty much confirms that it's canonically real teleportation.
Now that I think about it, since undertale and deltarune parallel each other, sans would be the secret boss of the "chapter", he even has all the requirements: -He has a weird way of talking, *speaking only in lowercase, whereas the secret bosses parallel this by *SPEAKING IN ALL CAPS!!! -He yields some small connections to Gaster with his Gaster Blasters, whereas Spamton constantly babbles about phones and Jevil saying things that got "Darker, yet darker" -He has some strange reality-bending abilities with his "shortcuts" and gravity manipulation, whereas Jevil is immortal and can transform into different objects and Spamton can literally transfer himself between bodies, make duplicates of himself and increase his heads size. -He has certain knowledge about the game itself, Sans understands resets but also knows he cant remember them, Jevil knows that its all a "numbers game" and what HP is and Spamton knows about Souls and the player's connection to it.
It even ties the contrast between both games In Undertale the secret boss, Sans, is only accessible in one route, so your choices matter since the very beginning In Deltarune, since your choices aren't muxh relevant, the secret bosses can be found regardless of your manner to the enemies (and in the Weird route Spamton is not just a possibility, but something obligatory)
