Can distractions be your greatest strengths? In this installment of the ILIO Artist Circle, the focus is on the undeniably talented Nahre Sol and her journey from classically trained pianist into the wide world of music technology and software instruments.
Nahre Sol performs, composes and teaches an eclectic mixture of music that draws from aspects of improvisation, the avant-garde, traditional Western forms and harmony, jazz, and minimalism. She runs a notable series of videos on RUclips that distill her distinct perspective as a classically-trained pianist with an insatiable appetite for new ideas about music theory, harmony, practicing, and composition. Topping over 500,000 subscribers, her videos breaking down the stylistic elements of great classical composers and documentaries that share excursions into various genres she explores. Outside of RUclips Nahre's credits include feature films with prominent composers such as Hans Zimmer and Steve Mazzaro.
Her natural curiosity led to an obsession with discovering how technology can expand and express her music. At the Juilliard school, pianists are not typically taught how to create and improve their sound, rather to focus on playing and leave that task to engineers. In this video we learn what led Nahre to challenge traditions and become who she is today, creating new timbres by blending software instruments with her piano.
Nahre is especially inspired by the Celeste in Keyscape. Lately, she's been incorporating it into a new style of music where she is playing both the Keyscape Celeste and her acoustic piano-something that would be exceptionally difficult using an actual Celeste. When asked about Keyscape, she says that "the best software instruments are the ones that carry the character of the actual instrument", and describes how Keyscape's Celeste offers not only the spot-on sound that she craves, but also the experience of playing on a real Celeste.

Huge fan of Nahre Sol. So great to see her here and get some fresh insights into her musical journey. Wow, what the world would have misssd if she’d decided not to return to music after Juilliard.
