  • In this video I am starting to assemble Brian's Willys L 134 Engine. Crankshaft is in, tappets and camshaft installed, and timing gears lined up perfectly. In a couple more days this engine will be finished and ready to ship back to its forever home.
A quick look at the Dana 70 and you will see that I have successfully installed 3.73 gears in an early 1/2" offset housing. Numerous ring and pinion companies kept telling me it could not be done and I should not even try to do it. Well, here is the ring and pinion installed with perfect backlash and a perfect tooth pattern. I kept the original carrier, found some 1/2" offset 3.73 gears and you can see the results. Everything has to come apart again to get the setup bearings changed out for the real bearings but everything worked out great.
A quick look at the Dana 44 that I am shortening to be CJ size. I had to remove the shock mounts, spring pads, turn stops, etc... so I could get a clean axle to mark and cut. I will make some rough cuts on the axle and then remove the knuckle ball by cutting the weld on the lathe. Shouldn't be too long now and will show the progress from time to time.
One last thing I really need to stress is please don't ask me to do something for you, a rebuilt engine, sheet metal parts, or anything like that and then not pay your bill. I have been getting shorted on money lately and have many customers not paying their bills and this is the last time that is going to happen. If you don't have the money for a project you ask me to do then don't bother contacting me.

Neat update as always Brian! Too bad that bad customers still come around here and there, things seem to be going good otherwise, the engines look great!

Finishing up my last restoration, which is the Scrambler and then changing the shop again. People can find someone else to do their work.

Most people just suck these days. Getting back on the good customer jobs and leaving the bad customers to wait for their parts.

It is getting worse and worse with customers. Nobody appreciates what I do or the time it takes to get jobs done. When I stop taking on work the Jeep community will feel it and good luck finding someone else to do the work I do for people.

Brian, that's just wrong people not paying you. I would take the local guy to small claims court. I believe if it's under 3,000, you need no lawyer, take your proof in, and get your money. You may not want to, but guy's like that will screw somebody else, and won't stop unless they are held liable. You do good work, and there are a lot of shop's that aren't what they used to be.
What would you recommend for cleaning a radiator with, because i took my rad off, and it was over half full of rusty water. I flushed it and the water is clearing up, but it's still nedds some help before i try firing up my 54 M38A1. Thankfully the block looks pretty good after i took the water pump and thermostat housing off. I took the carb apart to rebuild it, but it was pretty clean, I could of run it. The motor rolls over without feeling any binding, so I'm gonna try firing it up once i get the radiator situation figured out. I just don't want to run any junk from the rad through the system. Any advice would be appreciated.
    G-d bless.

The quality of humans is really deteriorating these days. As far as your radiator, if you are flushing with water and it is flowing freely out the bottom port then all is good, just keep flushing. If it doesn't come out the bottom good, then your tubes are plugged and the only way to clean them is to remove the top and bottom tank and have the tube "rodded" out. Again, if it is flowing good just keep flushing and install when water runs clean.

Inexcusable for people to not pay for your services. I’m sure you told customers at the outset what things cost and what they should expect.

I explain what things cost and people know what to expect but they still complain at the payment time. The lack of respect is out of control and the only thing I can do to stop these terrible folks is to just say NO. I will be very careful in the future about any jobs that come into the shop.

Can you sell engines if they well not pay? You do excellent quality work and you should be able to get your labor out of them. You could buy every engine for a core charge the guy has the first right to buy it after work is done. But if he doesn't pay in 30 days you are free to sell it to anyone. Make them sign agreement before you do any work. So you will be working on only your engines. That will be away to find out who is a paying customer and who is a dead beat. The only problem you will have is keeping up with you shop full of work.😊

I am going to rebuild engines and sell them instead of rebuilding customer engines that they send into the shop in pieces. There are still a few good people out there but the world is changing faster than me and the people are deteriorating rapidly.
