Pure 80's poetry: We are young but getting old before our time We’ll leave the T.V. and the radio behind. Don't you wonder what we'll find Steppin' out tonight.
Joe Jackson debuted with "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" in 1979 as part of the "new wave". He continued to develop his sound with each new album. "Steppin' Out" was a top ten hit for him in 1982. When you're ready for more from him, check out some of these -- "Look Sharp", "Got the Time", "It's Different For Girls", "I'm The Man", "Fools In Love", "Beat Crazy", "Sunday Papers", and "One More Time" -- along with many others.
With Joe, most of the best songs aren't the hits. If you don't care about having video, some of the best songs for reaction videos would be "The Man in the Street," "Shanghai Sky" will totally confuse everyone, you & your listeners. "Trying to Cry" can live up to its name. Someone made their own video to this song ruclips.net/video/PeJMuEKF3wc/видео.html & it's excellent. Also Loisaida is one that can floor you.
1982 sophomore year of high school. Being a NYC area kid(North Jersey) this tune brings back memories of Friday nights cruising Manhattan and the Bronx. What an incredible time and place😎
I always loved the song, and the 'story' of the video just was completely relatable. Everyone wants to be 'Steppin' out' of their daily grind and its something we can all identify with.
The first time I ever heard this song was on vacation in Hawaii in 1982. I was driving a rental car along a coastal highway on Maui, enjoying the beautiful scenery, and this song came on the radio. I instantly loved the song. Every time I hear it, it takes me back to beautiful Maui.
*I MISS YOU 82!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* *Steppin' Out is near the top of my Eighties Faves --- along with Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen and Love Come Down by Evelyn "Champagne" King.* So Eighties Glorious! And the absolutely mesmerizing Korg KR-55 synth melody ---- oh so deliciously and melancholically 80s!
Oh man... Joe Jackson takes me to my college days and my Technics turntable! Such great writing and musicianship. My fave in the car still is "Beat Crazy"....and one of the best album covers ever. Also check out Sunday Papers, It's Different for Girls, Home Town, Look Sharp, Breaking Us in Two, Be My Number Two... A rabbit hole worth diving into!
Brings back memories of my college days in the early 80's going home from school listening to this on my original Sony Walkman! Life was simpler back then...
One of my favorite artists. Yes, this was a big hit. I love the way this song harkens back to the day of radios and taxis! You definitely need to listen to the other big song on this album, "Breaking Us In Two". The whole album is great.
Thanks, Kids! Joe Jackson was an awesome talent.. all different types of music set the mood... this is NYC... exciting weekend... he has so much more... hope you do others :)
this song was written after he moved to NYC, the entire album was about his time and reflected from NYC. Lots of Latin rhythms on that album, the definitive 80's city album!
That clock that's shown in the beginning of the video, was the clock I could see from the front of my house when I was growing up in NYC. I remember always checking it before coming into the house, knowing full well I was coming home past my curfew. Even now, it makes me nervous to look at it! LOL! Thanks for the reaction, I love this song.
Hard to believe this gentleman's music the videos are over 40 years old. That was a good American Life when America was in top form top shape and America was happy. Was
You guys are hitting all the old artists & groups! I really appreciate that! This brings back very old memories for me here in Canada. I watched them live in Toronto somewhere but can’t remember where. Thx!♥️♥️
His records always got a lot of airplay here in the Bay Area. His last hit that I remember was in 1984 “You Can’t Get What You Want”. Lots of horns in that one!
Every time I hear this, it gently reminds me, it has one of the most beautiful scenes ever: "and in a yellow taxi turn to me and smile, we'll be there in just a while"
Love this song. Joe Jackson is one of my favourite artists. What a workout for the bass player Graham Maybe. Thank you Shawn and Mel for reacting to this one!
I love this song! This was the eighties! Enjoying all different types of music and artists! Joe Jackson was a unique talent who made beautiful jazzy-pop hits! And no, he’s not Michael’s father!😂❤❤

I see you guys love a good party! lol. Who doesn't? That's one of those songs that transport you in time. I loved then and love now. I think the best era of pop music was the period of the late 70s and early 80s.
had 2 very good friends that turned me on to joe jackson, everything gives you cancer, sadly they died a week apart from handling heavy metals over the years.....great album all around
My favorite Joe Jackson song is "Is She Really Going Out with Him." Completely different vibe, stripped down compared to this song, but always my favorite.
This whole album is a classic -- but there's another song Joe Jackson did that I'd recommend: "Nineteen Forever" - which is a sort of idealistic anthem for youth, with good lyrics - "wouldn't it be a drag to be like them - they're gonna sell out everything, but I won't get fooled again - 'cause I'll be - Nineteen Forever!" -- the studio version has the best vocals ruclips.net/video/HYqUSyhODO8/видео.html
I played this every morning in my car on the way to work, felt ready for anything after hearing it!
People forget that Joe is a master musician. Thanks for shining the light him!

I had fun hearing in my head what I thought it would be like if Michael Jackson's dad sang this song. Priceless.

But nothing hides the color of the light that shines
Electricity so fine, look and dry your eyes!"
One of my fav 80s jams

When he did this song, he used the world's most advanced synthesizer, and I believe at the time he was the only big musician who was using it.
The Pet Shop Boys: Love Comes Quickly
Another great one by Joe Jackson is the ballad “Breaking Us In Two.”
