The Toronto Velocity. Fits right in with Indiana Fever Atlanta Dream, New York Liberty, Detroit Shock, Orlando Miracle, Philadelphia Rage…. It fits in with the NBA team (veloci-raptors) and is a kick ass concept that represents speed, direction and motion, all which this team would dominate with in the league.
It would be much better if the team was called the Six or the North. It would galvanize people the way female NCAA sports do. Fans in college are not just fans of the women's game. They are fans of a community, they see it as a gigantic family. If you want a fanbase to support a team like ride or die, you need to create a culture, a spirit of "You with us or against us", like the way people support the military or a religion. It has to become a community or national identity. When opposing teams come visit, it must feel like they're going to war.
Add Toronto and Bay Area (San Fran) to expand to 14. The investments and market in the Bay Area (plus the fame of Ionescu, who is from there) and it's a no-brainer.
If the WNBA brings a team to Toronto that would/should open the eyes for the NBA as well. Yes it would be awesome for the WNBA to expand but remember those times when there were teams moving from spot to spot and eventually closing up shop because of the market they are playing isn't feasible ... But hey if the WNBA can bring in two more teams then why not the NBA too?...
If the WNBA is looking to expand, they need to look at markets that really have a history of supporting women's college basket, they already have a team in Connecticut, maybe look at Tennessee or S. Carolina
I'm sorry but they should have the new team in Ottawa or Hamilton instead of Toronto, why? Because the team can it's own basketball fanbase and do not have to compete with the NBA Toronto Raptors for revenue shares. We all know what happens or did happened most of the time when a WNBA team and NBA team share the same city. To me, one of the reason why the WNBA is starting to become successful is because most of the WNBA teams are not playing in the same city as an NBA team (Seattle Storm, Connecticut Sun & Las Vegas Aces) or is not or no longer affiliated with an NBA team (Chicago Sky, Los Angeles Sparks, Dallas Wings & Atlanta Dream).
First they should change the league so people actually watch it. Lower the Hoops, make the 3pt Line closer to the rim, stuff like that that would help to make it entertaining to watch.
@@porkypine602 I can see where you're coming from, but with a lower hoop more girls than just Candace Parker and maybe some really tall Center could Dunk which would make the Game overall more fun to watch as there always can be a huge spectacular play
No brainer? Glad you’re not ceo of the score cause you’d run it into the dirt. Why would expand in a league that looses millions a year and begs for from the nba so their players stop crying. LMAO. This is mind boggling
I'm sure Drake could buy a team on his own. It looks like it costs between $17-35 million to buy a WNBA team. If more, he could always take out a loan for a portion of it. It would be a wise investment. I wouldn't be surprised if the franchise is worth 2-3 times as much in a decade.
WNBA makes no sense for Toronto or any expansion city. I’m not sure if anyone on here knows WNBA has a revenue sharing thing so the entire NBA must share revenue. But the funny part is the league as a whole makes $0. It’s losing money. Unless Drake or whatever owner does bring a team to Toronto is ok with losing money then that is the only way it makes sense. Also Huskies, Owls etc wouldn’t make sense. It will be related to the Raptors name. So it will be some sort of dinosaur with a more feminine name just like the rest of the WNBA teams.
Atlanta Hawks= Atlanta Dream Not at all related Chicago Bulls= Chicago Bulls Not at all related whatsoever Minnesota Timberwolves= Minnesota Lynx Completely different animal Brooklyn Net= New York Liberty not all related Point is a Toronto WNBA doesn't have to be the female raptors
It needs to be called the Toronto Velocity. It still ties into the nba team name (veloci-raptors) and it is more fitting than Rex because WNBA team names are more conceptual ( Atlanta Dream, Indiana Fever, Tulsa Shock, Charlotte Sting (ties in with the Charlotte Hornets) Orlando Miracle (ties in with Orlando magic) Portland Fire (Trail Blazers) Miami Sol (Miami heat). Velocity is about speed and power. It is a perfect name.

It would definitely be one of the most profitable teams in the league. The fan support would definitely be crazy. Toronto needs a team!!!

the point is to expand WOMENS BASKETBALL.
I'm surprised Toronto doesn't have a wnba team. Doesn't make any sense
Bad investment when most teams lose money
Makes plenty of sense.
It’s official Toronto is getting their expansion team in 2026

Add two WNBA teams to Canada. East and West coast of Canada (Vancouver and Toronto).
How much money you feel like losing
If Drake is the owner, they need to be called the Toronto Owls

They should cancel the league. Toronto's not getting an irrelevant club. Sick of this BS.
