    Medic tf2 is how the term was made I think

      which is ironic given medic is way more effective juggling heal targets and micro managing his team. Its more effective in getting resources out there since more overheal overall, keeping more people up, and building uber faster. Pocketing is definately effective but not nearly as much as knowing when to heal who and juggling multiple people when ever possible.

    as a mercy player, the only reason I play her is so I can fly around. I don't care at ALL about the rest of her kit, it can be overhauled for all I care. This is why you saw so many mercy mains losing their minds when they increased the GA cooldown and made superjump built into her kit at OW2 launch. They're killing her mobility to make her a sitting duck to reduce her wr. They've approached her rework entirely wrong, and it's painful to watch.

    • @PixelRory
      @PixelRory  Месяц назад +1

      the ow2 mercy movement INFURIATES me to play against since her direction will just 180 with no indicator, I'll always prefer old super jump in terms of playing against it. Playing as Mercy? Eh, I can't say much there because she's never been my kind of character ya know but it does feel less rewarding to use now if you get me

    • @isaacargesmith8217
      @isaacargesmith8217 Месяц назад +1

      legitimately mercy deserves a rework so that she can be a character mercy mains would be able to get the fullest out of. A lot of her design feels like its contrary to why people like her aka her movement. None of her other skills even really compliment what makes her the most fun half the time imo.

    One thing to note about medics is that while pocketing is very possible, due to how tf2 healing works with crit heals and how medic builds his uber he often is much more effective juggling multiple people. Medic gives sometimes called overheal when healing someone while at max health. When they reach near full overheal his ubercharge rate is drastically cut. On top of this multiple medics cut into eachothers heal rates as well if they all stick on the same target. Unless you're healing someone to keep them alive you are often MUCH better off healing multiple people as you are both making more health for your entire team by giving multiple people buffs and are charging your uber much quicker. Because of how movement classes in tf2 work too most movement abilities, save for some exceptions like the jetpack, use health as a cost instead of cool downs so by healing and overhealing classes you allow your team to do more movement and take more risky positions and plays. Overheal at max makes a players health pool 1.5 times that of their max which, due to how the game is balanced, makes many damage break points completely different. On top of this you cant just overheal someone and leave them, overheal has a slow decay so you do periodically want to reapply it even if they're hanging back and not at the frontline especially one bigger health pool classes as the overheal decay is max health percentage based unlike how its applied which is a flat heal number amount.
    Another reason pocketing exclusively can cause issue is tf2 crit heals work very similar to the dps passive in OW, but EVERYONE applies it and it's a cut of 66% instead of 20% and it lasts longer with a ramp up back to 100%. Medic heals far less effectively on a person who is constantly in combat vs healing peopel that get hurt, fall back, and let their crit heals return. There is a major resource focus on splitting attention between players that need to get overheal buffs and keeping people in the front line alive. Healing front liners means you're not healing people who are healthy enough to slow your uber build BUT you're putting out far less healing overall and arent buffing your team in order to allow them to make engages and re-enter the fight. High level medic play is all about high level micro and macro management of resource and team play. He CAN pocket but its usually not his most effective play outside of specific situations and if you're DESPERATELY trying to keep people alive. There's even strategies about ubering multiple people at the cost of burning the uber faster so ubers dont even have to jsut be for one person sometimes. He has a lot of options as a character.
    I recommend watching videos about higher level medic gameplay, its very itneresting. Its why i think he's a very well designed healer honestly. He's EXTREMELY easy to play on a base level and mechanically outside the crossbow he doesnt require much but he's such a high management character that he requires a very good understanding of all the other fundimentals of the game and his own end goal and resources. Gives him a very low skill floor but a very high skill ceiling for a character with very few mechanical aspects. Not to mention all the options the crossbows burst allows and how it vastly increases his range to handle multiple people or all the variations in play from the other mediguns like krits or vac. You CAN pocket and bad/new players mostly do that fine enough but medics that know what they're doing know how to manage an entire team effectively.

    one character i think also falls into the pocket stereotype is aphrodite in smite. You can connect to an ally to give them dmg reduction, all your abilities then function around the ally your connected too. Damage boosts, damage, slows, knockback, healing, cooldown reduction and immunity. Smite and paladins are made from the same company, Rei in paladins is 100% heavily inspired by aphrodites design, the only difference is that aphrodite is in a damage dealing class instead of support.

    Hey I just want to chime in. I'm a mercy main that has put 450 hours in her, and I want to say yes that In low level play people expect that mercy only pockets, but in higher level play she gets massive value just from staying alive thanks to her rez. a good mercy can decide the round with her rezes (personly I have a rez priority in my head: tank > support > Dps .if there are multiple dead teammates but if say there is a one support soul and dps If the dps has ult I pick him but if both, it depends on the ally and the value that the rez will give)and its not really encouraged to pocket only one person but bounce around and make it as hard as positive to kill you and its fun to use her crazy mobility, thats why I have sticked with her for so long .
    For the right click beam it's really hard to decide, but i think it is a burst heal that you can charge up or overhealth giver that gives the teammate overhealth depending on how mutch you charge it but nothing too crazy. Sorry for the long text and bad grammar have a nice one.

    I can’t stand that they refuse to rework damage boost or nerf it substantially but keep nerfing DPS instead which makes them feel bad to play

    What's your opinion on a theoretical pocket DPS (extra damage that comes either separatedly and can aim other targets or boosts the host with extra stuff to their dps) or Pocket Tank (grants shields or damage reductions to host as well as maybe some form of mild crowd control)?

    • @PixelRory
      @PixelRory  Месяц назад

      A pocket dps, I know that I have like 2 examples in the back of my mind but I can't think of the names. I'd say it's fine, but in exchange for the new inability to position yourself you'd need some harder abilities to use
      As for a pocket tank, I'd argue brig is something similar? Specifically back in OW1 when she had more cc. It's a tough one because too much shielding/damage reduction and you've just got another pocket supp but too much cc and people will go mad.
      Those are interesting ideas though!

    Unfortunately with damage boost removed people will play other hero's, sure she ahs a revive but Ana is popular at higher elo's for a reason, she has her anti-nad, safety in the back line, sleep which is powerful CC, and her ult which is a single target damage juicer. If I were to replace mercy's alt staff power I'd probably give her something to protect a team mate, like a target shield maybe that has 100 HP on cast, and begging increasing to be up to the amount of HP the target character has in total (not including armor). Probably at a rate of 25 per second till it hits a cap, then if she un teathers it will decrease by 25 at a rate of once per 5 seconds. This gives her more support capabilities while not making her absolutely useless or just a heal bot because she WILL pocket harder if her altfire is garbage, after all when do you see a mercy pull out a pistol? It will be religated to that if its just a weaker than lucio speed boost, especially a single target speed boost.

    • @PixelRory
      @PixelRory  5 месяцев назад +1

      I mean ana's also more popular just because she's more fun, but you make a fair point for mercy.

  • @utk8718
    @utk8718 Месяц назад +1

    pocketing wouldnt be so bad if it actually required some effort. Just standing in the backline afk while being able to get full value out of your kit shouldn't be a thing. Mercy has no resource meter and has 0 incentive to EVER interact with the enemy team which is just bad game design at this point.
    Edit: One solution could be to make these pocket characters male and buffed instead of cutesy ones. Lets see how the landscape changes in such a scenario
