I got to try one at the Waco TX leather show and liked what I saw. Granted I only used it for a few minutes.

Thats the way to do it! Treat it like any other tool. You wouldn't drive a screw with a hammer. Gotta have the right tool for the job.

I wish I could get one of these Duane Watts blades but being from the UK Etsy bans us from buying knives (stupid? I know, imagine the laughter if you tried to mug someone with a swivel knife) that’s how ill thought out the laws are. I even contacted Duane but he doesn’t ship overseas. If anyone knows anywhere else in the US that sells them but will post to the UK please let me know.

why arent tooling knifes more like a pen or pencil?
Why do they need to be so wide, a narrower blade will help with tight cuts right?
You are my inspiration. I'd like to hear your answers to this. Cheers!

Thank you! That's a lot to live up to.
Dwayne Watts does make a pen style knife. I'll be doing a review on it in the coming weeks.
A big part of the reason you have the saddle on top is because of the downward pressure you can create.
As far as the blade itself, I'm not sure if you mean wider or thicker. The width of the blade acts as a rudder and ensures the blade won't snap under the downward force needed to create the cuts. The thickness creates a cut that opens up nicely, which creates a better bevel.
      Hope that helps.

I've been wanting to try one of Duane's knives for several years now. I'm just scared to drop $135.00 on chance. Does the bearings in the knife seem to be of good or poor quality? Also, I've got into doing a lot of vine work. Would you agree that this knife would be proficient for this application. I've very comfortable using a traditional swivel knife ( about 1 year) now. Thanks-Jathan

      All great questions.
      1. After 2 years I've had no issues with the bearings.
      2. It would be great for vine work, but I wouldn't buy one for that unless you feel you need it. If you're in the right path with a traditional blade, I say stay on that path.
I would say you should add the DW blade if you get into a lot of complex cuts, like script work.
