The opening ceremony of the games traditionally presents the host country. Following the course of the Seine, you see the monuments of Paris and some have a specific history, which is why they showed Marie Antoinette. I really liked the message of love, tolerance and diversity. If you look at the whole ceremony, there were some very beautiful things.
I'll do as Kkotsoonie asks and spread the word! I really didn't know, personally, what to think or how to feel about everything regarding the Olympics. I'm definitely the type of person who would rather have an easy-going conversation about it than argue with anyone! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the matters and I think you guys handled the topics well since they're not so easy to openly discuss! Thanks, again, for another Sunday episode. Looking forward to more fun content! Keep going strong, guys! 🙌
LOL at repeat kpop songs. I am still listening to Message and Face to this day, 12 years later. Message is #1 on my ult kpop playlist. If you jam to what i'm jamming to we cool.
Hello Kkotsunie 👋 I don't remember hearing a lot of issues about the Olympics before this one either. "Social agendas don't belong in the Olympics" preach 🙌 I agree the Olympics shouldn't be divisive. Celine Dion ❤ You guys are right about America not caring about the Olympics or World Cup. That kid was totally disrespectful but I don't think the adult should have threatened physically harm them. I use sir and ma'am a lot to people around where i live and people look at me like I'm insulting them. 🤔 I understand not being around being around lots of people every single day without being overwhelmed. I understand that completely Joel. Friends in moderation is totally relatable to me. Maybe that's why I'm still single and never married people and their demands of me confuse and exhaust me 😂 Take care of yourselves Aaron and Joel.
The production and broadcasting of the opening ceremony is carried out by an international company that is not at all French and depends solely on the IOC. The IOC apologised. I understand that this mistake on the name of South Korea may have shocked the Koreans, but the mistake came from the IOC. As for the flags, they almost mistook the flag but didn't, they rectified it. During the last Olympic Games in Korea, the Russian flag was put in place of the French flag during a whole ceremony. Unfortunately, to err is human.
The audiovisual production of the opening ceremony was done by an international company that depends on the IOC and a British director. It was this company and the IOC who made the mistake for the name of South Korea
Hello to my favorite Cowboys ❤ Thank you for covering the topics you did regarding the Olympics. S Korea is resilient & how wonderful it is so many medals have been won.
My opinion on the opening ceremony of the olympics was pure confusion. I love lady Gaga and I’ve been to her concert but why was she selected for the ceremeony…? She’s from an Italian family…. Is it because the next olympics are held in LA???Regardless of that she blasted off! With last supper I just didn’t understand what it had to do with France since the wall paintings are in Italy….like Joel said, I think the theme of the ceremony should be focusing on their own culture like in 2008 Beijing, rather than cutting edge social issues that will cause controversial issues.
Lady Gaga is actually very close to the French public! She speaks a little bit of French! I assume that you are not French so obviously you don't know that but before writing comments, you sould do some research. It's not because she is not of French origin that she can't appreciate France ...
Did you guys forget that the 2018 Winter Olympics were in South Korea as well. XD Aaron needs to study history... LOL Celine Dion is from Quebec and therefore speaks French as a native.
The Opening Ceremony always features the host country. There was a presentation of the values of France (liberty, equality, fraternity, etc.), historical reminders of the monuments seen along the Seine and reminders of Greece, the founders of the games
There is more than one painting of gods eating at a long table and someone in the center with halo. I think they took inspiration from more than one painting. The last supper is the most famous though.
The organisers of the Olympic ceremony explained that they were not thinking at all of the Last Supper but of a Greek festival. They were not in front of a table but in front of a podium and the still image is completely deceptive. Many people only look at this image without looking at the ceremony. The dj represents the goddess of music and has headphones. Even if some people believe they recognize the Last Supper, religious professionals have explained that the painting of the Last Supper is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci and not at all a cult painting. Anyone can reproduce this painting, it's not blasphemous at all! There have already been a lot of parodies everywhere, broadcast all over the world!
According to the principle of secularism, French athletes must not represent any religion. It's for all religions. There is no discrimination or racism
For me, the opening ceremony was messy on some parts. I'm French and the Marie-Antoinette part doesn't make sense to me (it's to represent the Revolution but it could have been done differently) and can be offensive to others Europeans countries (UK, Spain, Belgium...) with a monarchy (some monarchs were there on the opening ceremony...). For the drag queens, I don't get how they're supposed to represent our culture in a ceremony about sports. And the blue guy is actually a french singer (I don't remember his name) but in my opinion he was supposed to represent Dionysos (grec god of vine, party, and he is often represented with fruits) to refer to the ancient Olympics games but also to the fact that those games are meant to be a festive moment. It's sad they made some parts very controversial while the Olympics Games are supposed to bring people together. On a positive note, I was really happy to watch Lady Gaga and Céline Dion! The end with the Olympic flame was really cool, with a lot of French athletes.
The Olympics were HUGE in the US. (Yes, football dominates nowadays) It literally was a 20th century/Cold War thing, the USSR vs the US and American families, up until maybe the 90s or even up until the early 2000s, the Olympics were an event where entire families would sit down together and watch in Prime time. 1935, Jesse Owens, nobody had tvs back then but they sure as hell knew who he was. There is a reason why we all know Bruce Jenner was a decathlete because it was a big deal back then to be an Olympic gold medalist in the US and everyone could watch him on television like they did Nadia Comaneci, she is Romanian but a huge star in the US for 76 but also for defecting from a dictatorship. Gold medals came with huge endorsements, the Wheaties box, tv appearances, cameos in sitcoms or movies etc. The Olympics now can be viewed during any time of day online or PVR'ed and you can pick and choose what events you want to watch, usually not due to nationalism but due to interest and you don't have to sit through stuff you don't care for. Before, it was all about nationalism. So you had to watch or you were a bad American. Every modern Olympics had its star athlete, Michael Phelps, Simone Biles, always a . I mean, come on, Figure Skating was even huge until the 90s, it was mainstream. The way we view the Olympics has changed and that is why people don't watch as much. And US athletes don't dominate as much, China and Russia are big fat dopers, so it kinda ruins the spirit of clean sport to have two of the biggest countries having state sponsored doping programs. The reason why people from recently immigrated families support their heritage countries is because the US sucked in men's soccer, and they still do relative to South American and European countries. Canada, who is 1/10th the size of the US is better and you see a shift from people supporting heritage countries to supporting Canada.
Aaron so tired after work out..he yawns 😁. Hopefully you got good rest...it was recorded last week wasnt it? Happy Aaron starts working out. He did what he said..man of his words 😏. I hope it means his wrist also fully recovered. KCB always healthy. Thanks for bringing this topic. I read some articles after watching this eps however i decided not to prolong my comment about this olympic and educate myself instead. Salute for the athletes. And yes this sunday was very hot i checked seoul feels like 41°C. Stay strong stay cool stay healthy 🍉💚☀️!
I'm half french and live in Paris so I would like to clarify some things. There have been mistakes in names of countries and certain flags, it is not a targeted thing and it has happened countless times in other Olympics, it's a huge event and there have been slip ups. The ceremony was very well received in France and I thought it was great to use the Seine river as way to traverse Paris and all of the monuments. It was a new way of letting the athletes enjoy a bit more of the party. The Marie Antoinette sequence was fire ! It was in a building called the Concièrgerie where M-A was actually held in prison, the song was a revolutionary song from that time. Not allowing french athletes to wear a hijab is disgraceful, the excuse is that France is a secular country and that no representations of religion should be put forward, but honestly that is some BS, shame on them. Ok now the big one ! It was NOT the last supper, it's a representation of the feast of the gods... who lived in the OLYMPUS thus, the OLYMPICS. That's why you had the blue guy, Dionysius. I didn't see the tweet so someone screwed up. I think that french people are much more open-minded. So yeah Lady Gaga was fun, Céline Dion magnifique ! And that horsewoman on the Seine just wonderful. Am I biased ? LOL maybe, but I thought I would try to put forward a bit of french mentality. Oh and yeah, AC isn't really a thing in France, it gets hot and we use fans. But they could have thought about it for the Olympians who aren't used to it. Nice to hear your opinions Aron and Joel and happy to see baby Kotz in the house !!!
The buildings in the Olympic Village were designed to reduce the outside temperature by 7 degrees. Paris enjoys a temperate climate. The games are committed to making ecological games, which is why there was no air conditioning, it is not at all for the sake of economy. Each delegation was informed and was able to book mobile air conditioners before and during the games. If athletes did not have a mobile air conditioner, it is the fault of their delegation. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation on the internet.
At the last Olympic Games in South Korea, the Russian flag was put in place of the French flag and remained throughout the ceremony! (in Paris, they corrected their mistake) Error is human. For the naming error of South Korea, the IOC apologized.
According to the principle of secularism, French athletes must not represent any religion. It's for all religions. There is no discrimination or racism
The opening ceremony of the games by tradition presents the host country. The organisation wanted to convey a message of love, tolerance and diversity that is totally in the Olympic spirit. They didn't want to parody the painting of the Last Supper at all, it was more like the painting The Feast of the Gods. Even if some could dress at the Last Supper, I see no offense to Christianity. On the contrary, they wanted to convey a message of love. Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper is one of the most parodied paintings in the world. He has been parodied in series such as The Simpsons, Southpark, by many other painters and photographers. It has become an image of pop culture. I am a Christian and I am sure that if Jesus Christ had lived today, He would have chosen an apostle from the homosexual community. His message was one of love and tolerance. He did even more since he welcomed Judas when Judas had betrayed him and he had Mary Magdalene as a disciple who was a sinner. Overall, the ceremony wanted to convey a message of love, tolerance and diversity, which is largely the message that Jesus Christ gave us. Homosexuals and drag queens do not hurt anyone and suffer from it themselves. Conservative Christians do not respect the message of Jesus Christ and do not understand the human problems
If Olympic isnt a big thing for Americans, why do they still bring in large contingents to the Olympic? and also, why are all the news and people ard still pushing for America to be number 1 in the medal count?? so confused...
The opening ceremony was very camp and very French - the game of football was in World War 1, Christmas Day 1914 when there was a Christmas truce between Germany and Britain ✌️
I enjoy listening to the two of you. I use to identify as an “E” because I can be very outgoing and easily make friends (military kid) and yet I now see myself as an “I”. I value my quiet time and personal space to the point where I don’t want roommates.
In reality, the overwhelming majority of the international press gave positive opinions on the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games. Some minor incidents occurred as in any large demonstrations. The Koreans were hurt by the confusion about the Korean delegation’s announcement, this is regrestable. Organizing in the streets of Paris such an event with high environmental objectives is very complex it has risks sometimes a little improvisation but this is the price to pay for clean and open games on the city. It’s too bad if these games do not please a minority, you can never be unanimous...except among your neighbors in North Korea!

Had no idea that South Korea is now North Korea and that South Africa had now joined Korea per the Olympic coverage. What a serious screw up and don’t get me started on that S-show opening ceremony. They would never mock Islam. The boats on the Seine and Celin Dion were the only redemption that night.
The mistake on the naming of South Korea is due to the IOC who apologized. For the flag, there was almost a mistake but they rectified it right away. Error is human. During the Olympic Games in Korea, the Russian flag was put in place of the French flag and remained throughout the ceremony.

Jealous?
I am a Christian and I was not shocked at all. The organisers of the Olympic ceremony explained that they were not thinking of the Last Supper at all, but of a Greek festival. They were not in front of a table but in front of a podium and the still image is completely misleading. Many people only look at this image without looking at the ceremony. Even if some people believe they recognize the Last Supper, religious professionals have explained that the painting of the Last Supper is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci and not at all a cult painting. Anyone can reproduce this painting, it is not blasphemous at all! There have already been many parodies everywhere, broadcast all over the world (Simpson, Southpark, paintings, photographs etc) The church has never protested! In addition, Jesus Christ advocated love and tolerance! He had even taken Mary Magdalene, who was a sinner, as a disciple. I am sure that if Jesus had lived today, he would have taken someone from the homosexual community among his apostles. Those who criticize do not respect the will of Jesus Christ!
