It's no wonder the Southeast was central to the Equal Rights Act in the US. i don't think that makes him a hero necessarily, vague term, if anything knowing the weight he carries with his name in the industry it shows he's human and is trying to be a good one at that.
He knew he was wrong and openly admitted. That is taking proper accountability and courage. Liam earned a lot more respect from me and should be praised. Not for the horrible action he was considering to do but for realizing it was wrong and coming to terms with it.
Unfortunately it's the other way. Since the world gets most of its information digitally, I doubt there will ever be a decline of interest in digital media and honest reporting especially on the subject of racism and politic will continue to be scant. The media is too powerful and the super wealthy businesses men controlling the information and narratives, just don't see financial sense, and the excitement of reporting honestly and critically. Not forgetting that they are aligned with certain political party/political doctrine,, so the deliberate nitpicking, word-twisting, demonization and sensationalisation of political rivals is juat too good of an opportunity to miss.

I’m Black... and I can’t argue with what this guy is saying, and how Liam Neeson *felt.* Because being black, I know how easy it can be to label all white people as bad, because of the actions of some, or a few. And even though I would have undoubtedly fotseen this outrage developing in today’s social climate, and had I been his publicist I would have advised him against telling that story… I still Admire the ability to admit to feeling that way, but also acknowledge the error in that thinking, as well as acknowledging the growth as a human he has made since that time… Which further adds to his current shame and guilt. I’m not even a fan of Liam Neeson‘s movies, but I think what he did was courageous. But that’s just me.
The hard part is convincing people that we all have unconscious biases. Every person wants to think themselves as being perfect. And nobody wants to think that they have been brainwashed to think a certain narrative. If anything we tend to seek out information that confirms our biases, rather than challenges them. I occasionally question my views with my friends. To keep myself honest with myself.
Hard to say this. Neeson recognized how the proces worked and saw that his didn't make sense. So he indeed admitted that he had these feelings like many others have and deserves praise for his honesty. It's a pity that the context about this falls away in many publications and the comments underneath those articles, on both sides. On one hand people saying that it makes sense that he feels this way and that it's good to blame all black people and on the other hand, people judging his racist thoughts. Also, I and my friends have been hurt by people of several races and never did I have a generalizing idea to blame all white, black, Northern African, or whatever people. So the fact that someone even needs a proces of realization, isn't something to be commended and is fair to criticize.
While I basically agree with John Barnes' take, that the actor shouldn't lose everything for being truthful, I don't believe he deserves a reward, or medal or some great applause. I also feel that we don't know what happened during that week or for however long the actor went around looking for trouble with a black person. Did he actually do anything or hurt anyone, but not mention that part? We don't know, and even if he denies it, I don't know if I'd believe him. Nevertheless, based on what we know, I believe he should be able to continue to work. I also feel the same about Keven Hart and Rosanne Barr. This social media lynch mob mentality or Roman gladiator thumbs up/thumbs down mentality is morally corrupt.
Lots of dogs I saw pass through the RSPCA's care would growl at/snap at/bite men who approached them. These dogs had been abused by a man in their past, and therefore held negative feelings towards men. More than that: he was being honest that, as a younger man, he was unable to think clearly and was capable and willing to commit instrumental violence. Racism is simply a category error - and it comes from a whole host of neural mechanisms that aren't limited at all to racism. His admission was profound but even moreso that he could realize the mistake in his own thinking, fix it and then try to help others not make the same one. Sadly, most people didn't actually pay attention, assumed they were incapable of such category errors and faulty elisions themselves and set forth to completely miss the point.

@@truthhitman7473 I don't think anyone was implying that. I have lived in the UK and the US. For decades, I have traveled abroad extensively for work, and I the worst racism I have witnessed is in rural areas of the Southeastern US, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Carolinas. It's no wonder the Southeast was central to the Equal Rights Act in the US. How a nation's government responded in the first 25-30 years after abolishing slavery, seems to have the biggest influence or predictor on later racism.

As a black man, I believe Liam Neeson is a hero. The fact that he was able to admit this and say that he was wrong is amazing. That is courage right there.
Earnt so much respect for me
i don't think that makes him a hero necessarily, vague term, if anything knowing the weight he carries with his name in the industry it shows he's human and is trying to be a good one at that.

He knew he was wrong and openly admitted. That is taking proper accountability and courage. Liam earned a lot more respect from me and should be praised. Not for the horrible action he was considering to do but for realizing it was wrong and coming to terms with it.
This man speaks like he played football. Pure class. Intelligent and powerful!!!
The media is dying, John just put another nail in its coffin.
@Christie7 Hammon4 what?
Not really what Sky wanted him to say.

Liam acted very normal, this generation is so easily triggered and its so annoying. People cannot express themselves anymore for fear of losing their jobs their lives..we've got to stop it.
It'd be a great when people of all backgrounds can unite against the media. These p.o.s stir the pot, causing divisions when there shouldn't be and people from all sides argue with one another, which can sometimes lead to deranged people committing acts of violence.
MrLewdacris I'd love for us as black people to even think like this aloud .

I bloody loved John Barnes as a footballer and I love him even more as a person.
I’m Black... and I can’t argue with what this guy is saying, and how Liam Neeson *felt.*
Because being black, I know how easy it can be to label all white people as bad, because of the actions of some, or a few.
And even though I would have undoubtedly fotseen this outrage developing in today’s social climate, and had I been his publicist I would have advised him against telling that story…
I still Admire the ability to admit to feeling that way, but also acknowledge the error in that thinking, as well as acknowledging the growth as a human he has made since that time… Which further adds to his current shame and guilt.
Sometimes it'll only be a black man, sometimes only a tall man...either way, they react to the way a "type" of person treated them. We all do, to an extent. John Barnes is a good man for being this honest and open-eyed!

To be fair everyone has grouped a set of people so nothing wrong
More than that: he was being honest that, as a younger man, he was unable to think clearly and was capable and willing to commit instrumental violence. Racism is simply a category error - and it comes from a whole host of neural mechanisms that aren't limited at all to racism. His admission was profound but even moreso that he could realize the mistake in his own thinking, fix it and then try to help others not make the same one. Sadly, most people didn't actually pay attention, assumed they were incapable of such category errors and faulty elisions themselves and set forth to completely miss the point.
