IV been a welder for about 40 years I went to many safety classes and was told the oxygen bottles were a bomb but never seen anything like that I think ill have a lot more respect for them now
I saw a video the other day of an investigation of a death of a maintenance worker that was killed by a breathing quality oxygen bottle that exploded when he tried to unthread the stuck valve just enough to let the O2 out and change it, it was a bloody scene.
When I was at college for my welding course they showed us a video of what happens if an oxy acetylene welding set goes of inside a brick-built shed. Afterwards instead of a shed there was a crater. I always had a decent amount of respect for gas bottles since.

I suspect that the shock of the bullet penetrating the casing caused a shock wave inside the bottle which knocked the valve off. Ergo, do-it-yourself rocket. WHOOSH!
I've seen these cylinders fly at missile speeds. If it had come directly his way he would have been obliterated at that distance. I imagine it looks much further on video than it was in reality because they are using a wide angle lens.

For what its worth I think the reason the tank burst instead of simply exhausing its contents through a self enlarging hole was the round used. The API round contains an incidenary compound intended forvstsrting fires in fuel tanks however blasting that compound inside a tank filled with high pressure oxygen allowed the incidenary mix to burn at fadtly accellerated speed essentially like gunpowder in a gun, this explosion caused the tank to overpressure and burst. The only role the safe played was adding lots of additional shrapnel (and possibly slowing down the escaping tank remains.) I'd expect if you repeated this with fmj ammo the tank would end up with the typical holes instead of bursting, and if you hit one in the open with API again I suggest building a blockhouse first.

You don't know much about compressed O2 then, my friend... And it's only an 88 tank. Got one in my shop along with a 252 tank, which is much bigger. You don't want one in them going off around your house...Or in your townhouse neighborhood!

@@jstsumguy29 My friend and I got into potato cannons and we literally went to cannon size after awhile. We used hairspray, butane, propane and we didn't get the power we wanted, so we got mapp gas and that got us close. Put a D battery with hole saw blade around the front in a sabot through a car door! Then we wanted bigger so we used oxy acetylene. Just one tiny spray and we gave up on that mixture LoL it blew the end cap off and shot flame 3' out of touch hole and the projectile still hit hard enough to dent the car door! My FIL has a rusty acetylene bottle in garage I said that's pretty sketchy the bottom could really be rusted bad sitting on the concrete. I put it up on something and sprayed bottom with oil to hopefully stop more rust.

One of the reasons I watch this channel is because I'm fascinated by the fact that these two are still alive. I couldn't believe that Edwin shot that thing from so close without being behind some kind of barrier. I would bet that some of that shrapnel flew a lot farther than the distance Edwin shot from at a velocity high enough to cause serious injury or kill. Edwin stop shooting at stuff like that without at least your truck to hide behind. I really like the videos and don't want to see either of you die.
And like you really need a second opinion after that. But I'll give it to you anyhow. A BMG could be an acronym for Big Mother Flocking Gun that you know already is used by snipers at long distances with great efficacy. At much much greater distances than you were it could penetrate if not pass through a car block! Humor us and lets pretend that giving you sage advice wouldn't be like buying a whore a piece of tail.

You guys should really consider building a portable, towable bunker for experiments like this. Something like a steel plated roll cage with angles to deflect ricochets and debris should work. You could even make a couple of videos about the design and construction.
For those who might be curious, a gas cylinder that size at full pressure (normally about 2200 psig) stores about 800,000 joules of potential energy (equivalent to about 200 grams of TNT).
Long ago in the Marine Corps,. I was an artillery weapons repairman. One of the howitzers used a compressed air recoil system. I'd rather have a cannon round fire off accidently than mess with compressed air. A compressed air tank that 'fails' is known as a bomb. A longer time ago, I learned how to SCUBA dive. Air tanks held 2,500 psi of sir. The filler and port (same doo dad)) were on top, just as the tank in this video. Reports said someone dropped a tank in the 'back room', broke off the valve and the tank went through the roof of the building. In doing so, the air blast ripped all his clothes from his body. The Tank was found about four blocks away where it plowed a furrow in the concrete street. No one was seriously injured. But be careful with compressed air vessels. I am glad every is unharmed. That explosion set about half a ton of shrapnel in a 360 degree hemisphere.; Yippee-kii-yay!
Heard a similar story about guys unloading oxy acetylene bottles off a truck in an industrial area. Bottle fell and broke the valve off. Bottle took off like a HIMARS rocket and came down through a factory roof a few blocks away. Also lucky with no injuries, but some serious explaining to do.

You're full of shit. First, that's not a paintball tank. They're designed to eliminate any chance of that shit happening. They'll take off like a rocket, but they'll never explode. You can do the same thing with an acetylene bottle, something that's actually flammable, oxygen isn't, and the tank will take off like a rocket, with flames, but it will never explode.
This was the coolest explosion I've seen in a long time. Something I've wondered about as well, and now I know how destructive that could be. I am always careful when around tanks, and this will make me even more so.

Please keep in mind.. you can only roll the 'death dice' so many times before you win the grand prize. Whenever you do experiments, particularly potentially explosive experiments, with any box like structure like a TV, or a refrigerator, or a microwave, or a vault; NEVER be in 'front of the door/hatch', and try to put yourself a bit unsymmetrical (off perpendicular) to any of the flat sides or corners. Hey guys..great video..but this experiment is so very dangerous! I'm glad you two made it thru without any injuries. Being a weldor all my life, I have seen firsthand, twice actually, an oxygen bottle accidentally falling over and knocking the top/valve assembly off, causing the bottle to act like a runaway torpedo, going thru concrete block walls and taking everything out in its path.. these are definitely not to be " played with", if you will. Luckily I have never seen anyone killed, but it has happened in many instances. Good luck to you guys, and God was definitely watching over you two in this video.

I've seen some ppl writing that the round caused the explosion, because it was incendiary. The cause was not the round piercing the oxygen tank, otherwise the other tanks in the other videos would explode too. It is pretty much impossible that the oxygen tanks explodes as soon as the round hits. There is no material that can burn inside the oxygen tank or in other words inside the oxygen tank is no explosive mixture. The reason why it exploded was because of the safe. The round pierced the tank and a shitload of oxygen filled the insides of the safe. After that there was a shitload of an explosive mixture of metal and isolation inside the safe and when the pressure inside the safe went high enough the mixture exploded. In chemistry when you increase the pressure you make it much easier to get a better reaction. That's why the produce ammonia at very high pressure otherwise it would take forever for some chemicals to react.

We used hairspray, butane, propane and we didn't get the power we wanted, so we got mapp gas and that got us close. Put a D battery with hole saw blade around the front in a sabot through a car door! Then we wanted bigger so we used oxy acetylene. Just one tiny spray and we gave up on that mixture LoL it blew the end cap off and shot flame 3' out of touch hole and the projectile still hit hard enough to dent the car door! My FIL has a rusty acetylene bottle in garage I said that's pretty sketchy the bottom could really be rusted bad sitting on the concrete. I put it up on something and sprayed bottom with oil to hopefully stop more rust.

One of the reasons I watch this channel is because I'm fascinated by the fact that these two are still alive. I couldn't believe that Edwin shot that thing from so close without being behind some kind of barrier. I would bet that some of that shrapnel flew a lot farther than the distance Edwin shot from at a velocity high enough to cause serious injury or kill. Edwin stop shooting at stuff like that without at least your truck to hide behind. I really like the videos and don't want to see either of you die.
And like you really need a second opinion after that. But I'll give it to you anyhow. A BMG could be an acronym for Big Mother Flocking Gun that you know already is used by snipers at long distances with great efficacy. At much much greater distances than you were it could penetrate if not pass through a car block! Humor us and lets pretend that giving you sage advice wouldn't be like buying a whore a piece of tail.

What psi will hydrogen car have? These tanks are load bombs. But it is a testimony to their construction.
You guys should really consider building a portable, towable bunker for experiments like this. Something like a steel plated roll cage with angles to deflect ricochets and debris should work. You could even make a couple of videos about the design and construction.

Long ago in the Marine Corps,. I was an artillery weapons repairman. One of the howitzers used a compressed air recoil system.
I'd rather have a cannon round fire off accidently than mess with compressed air. A compressed air tank that 'fails' is known as a bomb.
A longer time ago, I learned how to SCUBA dive. Air tanks held 2,500 psi of sir. The filler and port (same doo dad)) were on top, just as the tank in this video. Reports said someone dropped a tank in the 'back room', broke off the valve and the tank went through the roof of the building. In doing so, the air blast ripped all his clothes from his body. The Tank was found about four blocks away where it plowed a furrow in the concrete street.
No one was seriously injured. But be careful with compressed air vessels.
I am glad every is unharmed. That explosion set about half a ton of shrapnel in a 360 degree hemisphere.; Yippee-kii-yay!
Heard a similar story about guys unloading oxy acetylene bottles off a truck in an industrial area. Bottle fell and broke the valve off. Bottle took off like a HIMARS rocket and came down through a factory roof a few blocks away. Also lucky with no injuries, but some serious explaining to do.

I've been a master airsmith for 20 years, mostly dealing with paintball and I've seen what a small 80ci tank could do. Those tanks are legit BOMBS!
You're full of shit. First, that's not a paintball tank. They're designed to eliminate any chance of that shit happening. They'll take off like a rocket, but they'll never explode. You can do the same thing with an acetylene bottle, something that's actually flammable, oxygen isn't, and the tank will take off like a rocket, with flames, but it will never explode.

Hey guys..great video..but this experiment is so very dangerous! I'm glad you two made it thru without any injuries. Being a weldor all my life, I have seen firsthand, twice actually, an oxygen bottle accidentally falling over and knocking the top/valve assembly off, causing the bottle to act like a runaway torpedo, going thru concrete block walls and taking everything out in its path.. these are definitely not to be " played with", if you will. Luckily I have never seen anyone killed, but it has happened in many instances. Good luck to you guys, and God was definitely watching over you two in this video.

I've seen some ppl writing that the round caused the explosion, because it was incendiary.
The cause was not the round piercing the oxygen tank, otherwise the other tanks in the other videos would explode too. It is pretty much impossible that the oxygen tanks explodes as soon as the round hits. There is no material that can burn inside the oxygen tank or in other words inside the oxygen tank is no explosive mixture. The reason why it exploded was because of the safe. The round pierced the tank and a shitload of oxygen filled the insides of the safe. After that there was a shitload of an explosive mixture of metal and isolation inside the safe and when the pressure inside the safe went high enough the mixture exploded. In chemistry when you increase the pressure you make it much easier to get a better reaction. That's why the produce ammonia at very high pressure otherwise it would take forever for some chemicals to react.
