HOW I WENT FROM HIGH-SCHOOL TO D1 SOCCER- (MY JOURNEY)

- My journey to becoming a D1 college footballer has been anything but easy . All my life I've wanted to play at the highest level. The setbacks that come with chasing the dreams are only going to motivate me to continue enjoying the game and to push to reach my full potential from this moment. Being released from academies, suffering injuries and the mental struggles that come with the football journey don't always get spoken about. I want to inspire the millions of young players that even multiple setbacks shouldn't mean the end of your hopes and dreams.

Never give up!!! Also new video this Sunday!!!
Hector. Great video. I'm old enough to be your dad (51) but I also grew up in Dublin as a kid even though I was born in NYC. My parents were Irish. I played in the early 80s for Rathcoole. About 20 minutes West of Dublin city center. Our family moved back to NYC when I was in 4th grade. I was a prodigy! Lol. But by 8th grade, most kids caught up to me. I ended up playing for a a solid D1 travel team on Long Island + my high school team which won 4 NYC championships in the late 80s/early 90s. I then made NY ODP my senior year of HS so got a lot of good looks from colleges. Ended up staying local at. St. Johns University since I already had many friends on the team from high school and the local area. Back then, colleges didn't have too many foreigners on the teams. Unfortunately while I was in college, early 90s, nobody thought of pro soccer because MLS wouldn't come for another few years so my age group kind of got screwed. Keep up the hard work.
Damn W story, I used to be a prodigy as well, playing for the best team in my state, now I’m at a lower lever club, not sure what to do… I made my varsity high school team in 7’th grade, that’s all I’ve achieved in my career so far. Got any tips?
i’m also irish
I aspire to be like you dedicated, motivated, and just truly inspiring. Love to see your channel grow :)
Just the beginning to bro I got so many ideas planned 🤞🏼 you guys are true og’s means a lot bro.
Thanks for this video man Im currently in 8th grade and I've been having tons of doubts about my soccer abilities lately and I felt that I was taking to long to take football seriously.
The most important thing is to have fun!!
Young man, never give up. You literally have until your senior year of high school to impress a college scout. Stay at it.
I work every day at soccer in my garage I’m on ecnl and odp (my states team where all the best kids in the state play) im 14 just small im keeping up with kids my age that have hit puberty even though i haven’t hit it im supposed to be 6 3 and hopefully I will be a lot better because im bigger and stronger than my opponents I keep up the grind and hope to go pro one day
Man, Im striving to go pro and honestly you have no idea how good it feels to find people who keep pushing themselves. Really inspirational
Follow mine and my brothers journey too :D
It’s been such a pleasure watching your grind and determination over the last 10 years or so. Congrats and keep it up!
Appreciate it Charles!!
Thanks for making this man, currently sophmore year for me and recovering from a hip injury, hoping to be like you and make it to D1
I live in El Dorado Hills and have an 8 year old which is very good. I didn't play soccer so helping him get on a "track" or knowing what a path looks like has been hard! Thanks for sharing!!
I'm grateful for the encouragement. I'll support my sons
Thanks man =)
It's like there was a BIG dark cloud covering my view on how to join teams and stuff...
But you just blasted it off Tanks man!
I'LL DO ALL CAN I'LL TRY EVERY WAY POSSIVLE AND I WILL NEVER GIVE UPPP!✊
Thanks for inspiring me now I know I’m gonna go professional in soccer/football
I'm so excited and happy you developed in Galicia, and the fact you studied at Los Sauces, never studied there, but had a lot of memories at that place from summer camps and such
Thanks your story is truly amazing❤ inspirational
love the video bro, i recently had a strain in my hip flexor and was out for 3 weeks and im currently getting my fitness back up to play at my full potential. Seeing the setbacks you went through helped me understand Im in a better position than a lot of other people and can make everything workout.
Hip flexor isn’t too bad at all. You’ll be fine. 👍🏻👍🏻
Loved hearing ur journey bro. U're a beast on this sport good, and better things coming for ur path. Dios te bendiga hermano🙏
Thank you bro. Muchas gracias por el apoyo. Y MUCHA SUERTE EN TU CAMINO. NUNCA TE RINDAS
Dude I love your videos and content, To see your perspective of things are insane❤️⚽️🇦🇷
So glad you enjoyed the video. Can’t wait to keep making videos for you guys 💫❤️
Thanks for the vid man. I am in 7th grade and still in a rec league. I have been starting to lose hope of my dream to join a high league. I was recently invited to practice with my local competitive team. This video gave me some motivation to keep practicing and working hard so thanks.
Ueeee Grande Hectorrr!!
Great video man! I might have played you at some point I was on varsity for Folsom High School and played for Folsom Lake Surf NPL (once part of the Earthquake organization). Super cool to see your journey and look at all of the fields lv'e played at like consumes, mather, san juan, and old high schools. I'm still enjoying the game at the college club level now but man this was such a throwback. Thank you!
Thank you for the inspiration dude, i had an acl tear/rupture last year and I just finished recovering, I'm playing high school rec rn and next year I will try out for high school and try to get better
i'm about to start my freshman year in high school in Manitoba, Canada
nah but bro thank you so much for this. really ❤thanks sooo much for the advise and everything. love it
Yeah, everyone path is different. Don't believe these guys saying you can't make IF!!!! Stay positive and keep the course. If you want to go far, you can..
Great journey. All the best to you.
Man great video Love the Spanish football u grew up with. I was watching your video and I realized we have the same last name halfway through 😂. Im a hs senior who grew up playing with foreign kids and leagues in Shanghai, the club I spent the most time at was Catalonian with all Catalonian coaches. I’m trying to make it into ncaa as well, but the varsity league I play at has been pretty mid and Covid has caused the cancellation of many leagues and fixtures over here, I’m going to apply to universities in America with my academics and try to join the teams when I get there😢 and looking at stories like yours makes it look so difficult. Ig I’ll have to trust the process like you did man😂. Great stuff keep it up.
as a kid who has been playing for a his whole life this truly inspired me.
means a lot glad I'm able to inspire you !! New video this Sunday
you inspire a lot bro💪
Appreciate it bro many more videos to come ❤️💫
Damn when you mentioned playing with stefan it really dawned on me how hard it is to get to that point. Good job keep going the road is still long.
I am a 13 year old kid playing for the Cal Blues as I also have tried out for Placer United but decided to go with the Blues. This is my second year at the Blues as I hope to improve and become an amazing player like you are. I hope to play at a high level like you do! Keep up the great work 👍❤
Appreciate it!!❤️
U14?
Do they pay you and good facilities?
@@IBlame.robin4 good facilities and I have to pay they don’t pay me
@@lucav794 yup
Today is my last day of tryouts, for my first year of highschool. Gotta lock in and be like you.
You got it bro!! Hope it went well!!
Amazing video! Love watching your channel😊🔥
Thank you so much!! Really means a lot.
W video bro, great to see you bouncing back everytime
Thanks for watching the video bro glad you enjoyed it. Bigger setbacks= Bigger comebacks
Was surprised when u mentioned celta de vigo, I love that team and I have been there many times
Siempre celta 💙
Your celta vigo story is kind of like mine. I played at this real madrid camp in Houston, got to go to Spain, and trained there, great place.
Great video, you gave lots of details in this video.
means a lot !! New video this Sunday
So inspiring bro🙏🙏🙏
All part of the process bro just got to keep grinding im not even started
U r underrated for sure
Means a lot :) thank u
Yo this is actually insane, so I’m actually from near sac and I’ve also been playing soccer from a young age, crazily enough, I also started at placer for my youth years and eventually decided to make the switch to blues fc, right now I’m at all time low as I received an injury that puts me out for key games of the season, but seeing this really inspired me and is helping me in this time, wish you luck in your career!
(By the way if you still remember, who were your coaches at placer?)
Lol....well I certainly wasn't expecting Dunboyne in the journey! We set the seed 🍀
Ahahah 100....Dunboyne will always have a special place in my heart!!
Love th video and I hope you get bettter and are encouraged to keep going. I’m actually a Centre-Back my self and I play for blues 2013 b team😊
I know I’m young
So cool bro ! Also means a lot glad I'm able to inspire you !! New video this Sunday
Its Crazy I live in fairfield an hour away from sac and our team plays against placer untd. Im also on pdp right now and have been on it since 2017.
I wish i had followed my dreams imma follow ur career brother
I got into soccer last year, my friend got me into it and I fell in love. I'm in cross country at the moment but I worry that I wont make the team next year, I wish my parents made me play at a younger age :(
Love this video, gives me hope, I've been feeling rather down lately since I failed my high school football trial. Any advice for a 16yo who's just started playing from January?
Keep your head up and keep working the best way to improve is falling in love with the process and the game. ❤️
So nice to see clubs that I’ve played at like Pdp and quakes so cool
Keep it up bro 🙏🏼❤️
Love the vids to
Appreciate it bro !!! New video this Sunday!!
Hopefully this gives me motivation, I m 15 and I am playing for an academy since I am 13. I ve had my ups and downs, playing for the B team and now when I finally am on the level of the starting eleven in the 1st team a new coach came and now I am injured and on the bench again
I am 14 years old and i started to play football at the start of the year and im going to register to a club in my city in may and i just fell in love with football in the future i am looking to get scouted and become pro.
wish i had started before my freshman year of high school, coming up in senior year now and i need to seriously put in work
You got it bro just keep working a lot can change in a year 🤝❤️
its funny watching this having played football casually for most of my life, and i did take it seriously but clearly not seriously enough, going into my 4th yr in college now, having played nothing in the past 3 years, and only recently playing in open plays every saturday, it was foolish of me to even think of trying out for the local professional team, even without talent i thought i could get by by being a destroyer and work horse but i clearly dont have what it takes haha
Thanks for this video, my son has aspirations of playing pro, he’s currently 9 and loves to train and to play the game. I’m definitely going to share this with him.
Glad I was able to provide some value!! Also new video this Sunday!!!
I had a nasty hematoma that messed up a lot of my freshman season, thankfully I got back to 100% for my sophomore season
Glad to hear it bro ❤️🙏🏼 always come back stronger
Funny seeing this on my feed. 2nd floor Augustine 4 life.
Luv the journey bro and my bad for asking but how do you play without fear like do you scared when the ball is coming towards you or no
amazing vid i’m also from sac and play for davis legacy 05
Appreciate it bro keep up the good work
Amazing Video
Glad you enjoyed it!! Also new video this Sunday!!!
my coach is also called ryan
holy shit I live in sacramento, and I just started playing football
I also played in the surf cup
Thank you for sharing this information, we have a 5 year old that is a beast at his age and resonates with your story line, how do you suggest we reach out to people if we don’t know anybody?! We want to ensure our son is supported and help him thrive!! Please let me know thank you
hey man great video🙏but what should I do if I don’t have a club and my freshman szn is over?
What is your advice if we live in an area that has a premier team competitive but not mls next? We live in central California not in South or North CA where there are more opportunities. Son is 12 years old playing premier level 3 club competitive but he is skillful to play higher.
hey man actual question should i move to the US or to Spain to try and make it pro I'm in junior year and have Spanish nationality, also keep up with ur journey man!
🎉🎉 I'm gonna be in primary league one day
Football 💪💪🔥🔥
I’ve been on both teams blues and placer
I play center back too
U motivate me not give up ⚽ I'm African people i Real want to join Academy teams into America.
Never give up bro 💪❤️
Around how long did u play each day? I want to know what a good time is because I was playing 7 1/2 hours a day but then I picked up an injury so I want to know a good amount of time to play.
Also what's ur main position? I am a left wing.
Yooooooo what a coincidence you got the same last name as me! I hope to be like you some day!
hahahah goated last name!
I’m from dunboyne as well
Appreciate the support mate!
I live near dunboyne that’s mad omg😂
I hurt my back too I had to give sports a 2 months break
Just remember everything happens for a reason.... you'll bounce back!!
Hector great video! I wanted to ask you for American born football players, how difficult is it for them to join a Spain academy team like you did?
Well its near impossible to join a European academy if you're under 18 unless you are European and have a European passport already which I was fortunate enough to have since I was born in Dublin, Ireland and my family is from Spain. Not only that but even if you meet that criteria there are still many more things Fifa requires for a minor to play in a different country..... to many steps to name. There are some loop holes I have heard of but like I said its near impossible, especially if you don't have any connections. Hope that helps and thanks for watching the videos !!
🔥🔥🔥
great video wow, im 14 and i havent played no travel team but i be training everyday and the last time i plyed a for a team, was like 3 years ago do you think i could play varsity.
What’s up bro thanks for watching the video. I think it’s possible but it would be really hard it depends on how good your team is for your highschool? Also are you in contact with the coach does he know who you are? If no start there and get in contact with him and talk to him about trying out for varsity or abt what you should do. Also I was playing jv at 13 so there’s nothing wrong with jv (just letting you know). Hope that helps a lil
@@hector.serrrano thanks bro means a lot
Ofc any thing for u guys 🤞🏼
I have trials for the biggest team in my area in Ireland but I recently dislocated my knee and i won’t be fully recovered for the trials but it’s the best chance I’ll ever have do u have any advice
Great video. Just wondering what gym work were you foing at 14.
Firstly thanks for watching the video, means a lot. And at 14 I wasn't lifting that much weights it was mostly band work to get explosive and stay injury free.
@@hector.serrrano thx
Hey bro I'm from where you are and by chance did you play for Roseville youth
Hey bro, I know it’s a late comment but how much scholarship were you offered(if you can say)? Some American universities are brutally expensive. How did you offset the cost?
Very interesting path!
Question- is it better for development for a kid (say while around 8-11 yr old) to play various positions or just one?
My kid is 9 and his club mostly play him at striker and sometimes wing (but it’s 7v7),
But I feel if he can play some midfield it will be better for development, do you agree? Or just embrace playing forward?
I just want to do what’s best for development
I totally agree with this I wish I would’ve played more in the midfield growing up gives you a much better understanding and of the game and your constantly under pressure….compared to playing wing or striker at that age. A little bit of everything is always good👍
@@hector.serrrano Thanks for the reply. Do you give any private trainings in the off season?
Yes I do!!! Dm me on my instagram hector.serrrano
Also new video this Sunday!!!
Hello I'm trying out as a sophomore cause I missed first tryouts what workouts do you suggest
God bless
Same thing happened to my friend. He got wanted for a club and was going to move there because of it but covid hit.
Ruined so many opportunities
@hector.serrrano 😭😢
Hey man! Next year my junior year I am going to start JV high school soccer, do you think I have a chance to play at a higher level?
If you keep working and pushing yourself of course and also try and go out and train with people in your area who are better than you to improve even faster! New video this Sunday
why I don’t get this opportunity😭
Did you play with Robert deziel, I think hes a young American for Bayern now that just left from vigo
No I didn’t, he was an 05 so he was an age group under me but I would always see him around before trainings and such he was the only other American there class player he played at Real Madrid before to.
3:40 you had a friend who had lots of contacts in la liga?
Damn
I just started playing couple months ago when I finally got motivation I am 14 I want to be a pro more than anything, can I still make it?
I’m 13 and I play for cabosa united rec team and I really wanna play competitive but there’s really no soccer clubs in Louisiana Shreveport so my best bet is to either join the competitive for cabosa united or I will need to do high school soccer but I’m motivated to be a pro but if I don’t I will do my other dream to be a engineer I did find this one club Louisianafiresc but it cost 1.5k to play for the competitive team
No way you actually played with Stefan Bajcetic? Thats cool
Super cool! Also new video this Sunday!!!
Hello. I am turning 13 soon and I would like to play soccer in high school. I never really played the sport until I was nine. Then, covid hit and I took a break for 2 years and now I am came back. My skills worsened but I am trying to get better. Any tips for me? I play CB.
just practice every single day man, after a bit it will all click again
did you have an agent?
How much did you train?
great story bro. also what does red shirting mean?
What's up bro, first of all thanks for watching and red shirting basically means you don't play any official matches which means you don't use a year of playing as in college you only get 4 year's. In your college career you are allowed two red shirts one for freshman and then one for injuries.
@@hector.serrrano oh okay thanks for replying man. your story is inspiring
Yoo I’m from sac area and we play against placer and blues!
That’s so dope bro!! Thanks for watching 💪
Damn, you played with Bajcetic?
Yes sir… insane how far he’s came in 2 years
Am 14 and got interested in soccer, if I join a rec and do really good is it possible to go pro?
Ofc man anything is possible just got to work hard but most importantly just enjoy where you are now and enjoy the process don't get so focused on just going pro. Also new video this Sunday
Did you ever play against a ucla player now earthquakes player Aaron edwards
are you a real madrid fan?
5:50 for people who know, please tell people who don't know
Why did you choose to redshirt your first season?
Coaches decision...
