A year after the events of the Destined Showdown, life seemingly returns to normal for our cast of characters. Amidst this calm rises a new storm in the form of the Deluxe tournament which seeks to crown the strongest in Vanguard! As fighters across the world are invited to participate, Akina is introduced by Nao to her mentor, a cardfighting legend named Kagetsu. It's the start of an epic journey frought with action and emotion, so get ready to Stand Up!

Two things that I especially love about this first episode:
1. Suo is beginning to lead a more human-like lifestyle. Him learning how to cook shows that he is diversifying his interest rather than just care about Vanguard. It might also be an influence from Akina. This could be why he is gaining popularity within school.
2. Akina’s relationship with Nao is starting off great. He is curious about Nao’s relationship with Kagetsu NOT just out of curiosity sake. You can tell from his facial expressions and the tone of his voice. Secondly, really like how Kagetsu is so blunt in his question about whether Akina has a crush on Nao.
Also, the first leader of Blackout might be Takami, a name mentioned in the first episode of overDress season 2. Very ancient time that is.

Yeah, I think Takami is the first leader too. Since he's Megumi's brother, a friend of Danji's, and he made Blackout's first banner with the caligraphy they used in Season 2.
Few small details I love
1) the shear amazement embrassment that are on Akina and nao face followed by nao panic shame and frustration all into one! I never expect nao to be tsundere but I love it!
2) a cool tidbit and potential plot point is that suo and Suzune will have a positive relationship since suo is now likes cooking and is making sweets and suzune like sweets
3) suo new way to obsess over vanguard which lead to his smile winning over the girls
4) Akina and hikari look so much better than they used to be. Erika got what she wanted those 2 are now freely able to express themselves voice there criticism and complaint without worry and still smile regardless. I can’t wait to see where Akina hikari and especially Erika. The 3 new sibling relationship go from here!
5) I didn’t notice till now but Erika hair is so much more whispy! Free from her responsibility and duties she now Free to live in this world with a big smile on her face!
Although I’m curious about the big bro thing and hope she hasn’t completely given that up. But seeing her smile at the thought of spending time with Akina fills me with joy! 😊

Suo trying to balance harbinger of death tendencies and being regular polite classmate with his pupils twitching on and off is too funny. Also, Akinao going mega canon, and Team Blackout members acknowledged. I love this episode.

Late start to the season, but it was well worth it, especially since the Divinez era started nearly a year ago (1 day difference), poetically reflecting this episode’s timeline from season 2.
We were hoping for it, and here it’s coming true. A potential build up to an AkixNao relationship set up since the previous episode, which would make quite an interesting subplot considering Vanguard in all its years never did a direct romance style writing with its protagonist. So seeing this makes Vanguard more than just a card game anime.
And Akina isn’t the only romantic here. What I thought was gonna be Kuon as the ladies man, but Suo… man, he went from 0 to hero, an unexpected situation for him from my initial prediction. I really find this an interesting direction for him, and I hope that girl becomes more than just a random background moment but an actual character for Suo, like his own Kento.
Speaking of, Kento returns strong with his love for Mikoto, so strong that his nose bleeds. I’d be interested to see what deck he’d be playing if he got any game time, but it’d be even funnier if he and Yuna got together over their love for Mi-Tan.
As for returning characters, they put as many as they could in addition to the new ones. The Divinez crew all fit the roles they were intially given from some being absent from the trailer, while the Dress crew came back in a great and nostalgic way. Danji was an absolute surprise, paying off the recent Bruce support.
Of course, there are drawbacks to too many characters, as some like Senka and Mirei didn’t get moving roles at all. And it’s worth noting that Yuyu was shown even as a chibi, unlike in G where Aichi was hidden multiple times. Tohya’s in his Overdress outfit instead of Willdress outfit for some reason, though.
This episode, while more story focused, did feature a great fight scene drawing parallel to last season’s as it was Akina vs a Dark States Divine Skill player. Guess we now know why Odium cards are gonna be revealed this week. And it starts with a fight like Willdress did, so that’s something. And unlike the previous 2 seasons, Akina actually won his first season fight, showcasing his growth.
Hikari, while I honestly hated her mental polluted self last season, repents for that by being absolutely fun that shows her truly ending her illness. I like that they payed off her dislike for celery as mentioned last season, and it gives some fun stakes rather than dire ones.
Our future Hikari, the new Erika, shines as her own character. Her voice sounds different, which not only seems to be an age thing, but also a divergence into her own individualism. And it was quite clever to give her Taizo’s Deluxe invite, cause that man certainly influenced her life for the best.
Last but not least, we get more Gabby. He’s a magic dragon, so it’s sensible as to how he can remain as an MC. Think Sybilt might have the same technique? If yes, Fatal Finale plays on.
To summarize, we start off the season strong setting up the Deluxe despite its minimal mention this episode. It was interesting to see what direction Divinez will go in now the Design Force saga has concluded, and I’m looking forward to it. Though unlike the previous 2 seasons, some people who started with Divinez may not know some of the Dress characters without watching Dress first, but that just prompts them to learn more about the characters.
Overall, lets see what the next 14 episodes will bring, and I can’t wait for Veidrock… Veischutz…. Vei… Whatever Kagetsu’s Vanguard’s name is. Looking forward to him in the next episode. I heard a rumor it might be coming earlier this week.
Definitely got a lot to look forward to, both with the characters and units alike. Here's hoping they all get good moments to shine 😅

Kage being blackout's first leader makes sense because his vanguard is moon related.
There is a good chance that Raika is going to put 2 and 2 together if he plays hikari in this festival and then fights erika in delux. Raika can also fight suo twice.

Ok so here are my thoughts
Suou having a popular phase and interest on cooking is a surprise development out of nowhere, but it's a good change for him. I like how Kuon has taken a role of being his babysitter for his maniac side.
How the heck did they're school even get Raika to collaborate for this school festival?!
Akina and Hikari fight was really fun to watch after the drama between them last season. I can already see her getting jealous that Akina got invited to deluxe.
Kagetsu is definitely the 1st Blackout leader, which could explain what he was doing during that year he went missing from the spotlight. But it's funny how he and Michiru are rivals and they're both space cadets.
Speaking of Michiru, Danji was a surprise for me to see with him. Really did not think he'd appear this season.
Akina getting jealous and having the question we want him to face was very diabetic. If this keeps up I'm gonna get my hopes up that DivineZ ends with them being a thing. If they do then that would make history.
What I'm actually most surprised about is that we have not gotten a single Bushiroad ad this episode, there wasn't even a mid episode break. I'd want this to keep happening but it's very unprecedented.
Overall this was a really good episode, and even a good sort of epilogue despite being a prologue for this season. Since this gave more than the epilogue of S2 did. I have no idea what this arc could possibly set up for S4 and 5, but I'm looking forward to it

I’m not usually a fan of the first episode but this one really hit me hard making me excited for this season seeing a lot more overdress characters than I thought we were gonna get, trickstar is everyone in that festival, Suo full on smiling saying yes to a fight is so amazing a lot better than season 2 where he just full on invades Akina’s space demanding a fight and him and Kuon’s friendship is so wholesome, Danji makes a return, Yuyu being mentioned which has to mean we’ll see him eventually also Blackout lore??? I really hope we learn more about the original leader and they have a whole flashback episode on that.
Really fun start to the season, really love just how chill it is so far. Honestly just so glad to see all these characters develop and interact once again

The episode was alot of fun and I wanna go with the headcanon Gab went to the restaurant for the summoning circle before he went to Erika.
Also Akina finally broke the trend of the protag losing really early cause ever since Overdress season 2 and onward Yu-yu lost his starting fights and Akina continued that trend with Nao and Suo in S1 & 2 respectively.
Ikr! Good on Akina for not falling to that trend (although episode 2 might change that).

Very good choice by the writers to have Masanori give Suzune her invitation, considering his interaction with Suo back in season 1. If the fights in the opening are to be believed then giving them a link via Masanori, is pretty fun. Also its pretty nice that's Suo gotten an interest cooking. Think it be cute if he made caramel candies for Suzune.

Ah ic, I'm also very intent on the Suou v Suzune interactions that are building up, that's gonna be such a gratifying moment.

Anyways that aside, HOLY moly we're back. First of all that opening sequence tho, shades of Raika vs Yuyu r1 Deluxe 1. And then cameos, the callbacks, the Fated and Destined fighters just enjoying their lives. Yeah this episode is made with labor of love and it shows.
And of course, mine and my fellow shipping brother Navs highlight, the AkiNao movement. Bushi is pushing this hard and we are ready for it.
Also big heads up, this Monday (or Sunday on y'all's time) Bushi will do a presentation and in that they'll early screened episode 2. Whether you want to re stream it's up to you but if you do be careful. You saw first hand how "handsy" our mainstream partners are. And if you don't it's fine I understand we don't wanna risk it.
It's a fantastic start to the season and definitely keeps the hype cranked up to 10! The shipping was just the tip of the iceberg pun intended lol

I have a feeling that kangestu was the first leader of team blackout and would connect the dots within the timeline of his disappearance for a year which we might have a megumi fight against kangestu knowing that kangestu would only battle meguim to test her strength as the new team leader of blackout. Gonna be an interesting battle for when that happens.

@godsman00 definitely. It would make sense when they only gave us vague information about kangestu after season 2 ended. It would depend if kangestu would hold back against megumi to truly test her when they'll probably face each other in the deluxe with no holds bar. They might make megumi to go 2nd to force her to bring out Magnolia elder while he holds back.
Great way to start off the season. I got so much nostalgia from this episode from seeing the characters from OverDress and Will+Dress even though it hasn't been that long. I can't wait to see this season progress I'm so excited 😁!
Edit: I really would like Nao to win Deluxe because this season feels like it's going to develop her character even further I mean we were introduced to her "Master" and she's still continuing her journey to become a Pro Fighter so it would make sense and Deluxe is a great plot to show how far she's come. Also I like she's called The Samurai Lady of Kaga since Varga has the Samurai Dragon aesthetic going on. Overall I want Nao to win Deluxe 🤞🏿.

Suo did activate Divine Skill last season in Episode 1, he just never got an animation of it
And as Bang Dream fan I was shook when Anon showed up at the beginning, though its too bad the animators didnt do her justice but at lesst it was only like 5 secs
Im not hooked on what feels like a retcon of the lore because back in OverDress Season 1 they REALLY make Danji look like the OG leader with help from Megumi's brother for funding Wonderhill, ill see where they take this with assuming Kage as the first leader because this feels like such a retcon atm to me.
Poor Hikari, i dont know how she lost that her drives were good and her hand was still healthy and Akina checked no triggers, they purposefully didnt give her any pgs so Akina would get a win since hes losing next ep lol but poor Hikari i actually like seeing Odium win in the anime compared to IRL but the meta deck losing in the anime curse strikes back lol.
Oh also glad we got to see Yuna and Kyohma again even if it was very short and its nice that Kento is also playing now too, I wonder if hes playing one of the two newdecks in set 7.

I love how the entire episode excels more in 'normal lives' theme (yes I know it's still prologue but still). After two seasons of serious fights back-to-back, my boy Akina needs to chilling with his friends and crush 😁
Edit: Suo's popularity also marked his character development, from the anti-social gloom to 'kinda unique' but attractive person

this was a nice espisode just a slow pased espisode wich also was just fun to watch sad that we didnt got to see youthberk vs krysrain match up so the youthberk new main g3 hope is still there.
the new g2 for odium is basicly a g2 version of the g3 to call itself out from the regres gauge dont know what the cost for call itself out is besides of the put something from drop to the regres gauge so cost could be a cb or a energy blast cost one of the 2 but did notice the draw skill cost is a on attack sb 2 to draw 1 wich also was mentioned in the fight .
but man they really trying to make the akina x nao be a thing wich tbh i could actualy see them doing that part of me dont mind seeing it happen because those 2 has pretty fun Chemistry with each other and its fun to watch them interact with each other me usualy dont jump on a me ship that character with that character but this one is just it makes sense but it could happen but probs it doesnt gonna happen but atleast its fun to watch.

@godsman00 honestly I wanted the finals to be Erika vs Nao, but 6 of the top 8 have a set opponent for story reasons, and we know that Erika and Nao are going to fight because of the intro. So I'm thinking that Akina beats Kagetsu, and then Nao beats Akina, and doing that you could say she beat Kagetsu, and then she goes and defeats Raika, who beats Michiru, the one that was said to be on the same level as Kagetsu, so she is showing to be the strongest fighter.
The akinao agenda is even more stronger than before lol

She complaints about eating vegetables, (and here i though usually japanese kids/runts hate bell peppers, not celery). The way she says ' i dont like what i don't like' slightly upset me.

Even though sylbit isn't inside hikari anymore, still I'm side with Akina for Hikari need to eat her necessity amount of nutrients from veggies and other basic food groups.
