Contrary to what Hollywood portrays, sieges lasted a long time and people weren't being killed this fast. In fact, there is an anecdote about a small tower in England that was besieged by one French lord with 1000 men. Inside defending the tower were possibly a hundred men. The French archers attacked the tower by day for six weeks, unleashing a total of what was possibly over 10,000 arrows. In the end, ONE man was killed inside the tower, and eventually the French withdrew and went home. That's usually how it went. Slow, boring and casualties were few. Sieges mostly relied on starvation or less frequently sappers to undermine the walls. These cinematic "it's all over in an hour" type battles are good action but historically inaccurate.
