Deciding instead to invite two midshipmen to their own party, the girls lock up the housekeeper, they career out of control on roller skates, knock over the guests and cause mayhem in the kitchen before making their escape in a health-and-safety-defying bicycle chase. By the time the pursuing adults catch them up, they're practising the piano and looking like butter wouldn't melt in their mouths.

Defying authority, sneaking boys into the house…I’m beginning to think teenagers have ALWAYS been teenagers 😂
AND those “boys” looked like older fellows who were enlisted.
It’s teenage girls always chasing the Men in Uniform: a timeless trope, I suppose…
This, and others I've seen of these two actresses in this role, are incredibly interesting. These aren't withering wallflowers locked away in their withdrawing rooms sewing and doing domestic work, but two lively young women doing what the hell they want, when they want it, and having a damned good time, fully in charge of their lives. Fantastic stuff!
A lot of young kids did have fun then, whether they did domestic work or not
Crazy, my grandma was born during the Edwardian era and my grandpa during the last years of the Victorian Era…and here I am now…watching this film made when my grandpa was a young kid…so surreal to see.
Yep! My grandmothers were approximately six years old in 1910, and my grandfathers were born in the late 1890s. One of my grandfathers ended up fighting in WWI.
My grandfather married my grandmother and went off to war in 1914. Just 4 years after this.
My paternal grandparents were both born in 1896; they were 14 when this was filmed. I'm only 45. The youngest of their youngest son. Amazing.
@@mellendiamond my mom is the second youngest of all her siblings and you and I are the same age as well. It really is amazing that we have grandparents who were alive when this was first filmed…and then to see how film technology is today compared to back then is even more amazing.
My grandma was born in 1882
What an amazing video. So full of mischief and fun. Thank you for releasing this.
Alma Taylor (1895-1974)
Chrissie White [née Ada White] (1895 - 1989)
R.I.P.
Wow, Chrissie White was alive long enough to see modern computers and the World Wide Web’s early days.
I think people of today have a hard time realizing that people in past were as knowledgeable as modern people. If anything they were probably better mannered and spoken.
i wouldn't say better, the people who would wear these clothes would be upper middle at least, so it just appears as so
None of these people in this film appear to be very well mannered or knowledgeable at all. Indeed, they appear to be the exact opposite.
@@Billy_Bad_Ass then I hope we are judged by the movie idiocracy.
@S D Really? Not very funny then -- unlike Benny Hill.
@@nedflanders5649 We already are, Ned, we already are.
You can see how the mannerisms and expressions carried over into what you saw in the old ladies of the 50's and 60's.
"Edwardian girls gone wild ". Would love to see more of that
lol... :D
There is some of that on film for sure !
Reminds me of the author Jean Webster.
“Ohhh you showed your ankles, you naughty girl~!”
Yeah that’s hot 😂
Those naughty girls need a jolly good smack bottom, and I'm just the chap to travel back 100 years and give them one!
The Olympic and Titanic are under construction at this time
I think that was the sequel, "Tilly's Wild Titanic Adventure."
The Olympic class vessels are a fascinating subject. One year later in 1911 they began building the third liner, The HMHS Britannic.
Alma Taylor plays a elderly passenger who gives up her seat in a lifeboat to a young woman who has a child, in the 1958 masterpiece, A Night to Remember.
Keith Richards had recorded his first records about that same time.
@@osvie0168isn’t that the one where they both boarded the Titanic and were seduced by Count Dracula and chased around by Jack the Ripper? And then they hit an iceberg.
Great sequel!
Straight to the reformatory for you young ladies!
I used to know a man who would have been the same age as those young men. What a different world he lived in.
Love Tilly and Sally! Keep 'em coming!
Right on❤❤😂
I can't get over watching people from this time period. The girls especially so full of youth and vibrancy have long died
These ladies are so funny , thank you for sharing another film of their series.
better than all the modern crap from netflix
Amen!! This is so funny 😂
Exactly. I watched this right away. For Netflix, I can spend hours adding things on to my "to watch" list and never watch anything, really.
@@Cristinact haha i do exactly that!
I remember seeing this in the theater. My cell phone rang in the middle of the 2nd act and I was so embarrassed.
The Ghost of Your Dead Great-Great Grandfather:
“My favorite Silent Film… RUINED!” 😂
Those young devils would never have acted in such a savage manner if the dear old queen was still with us. Victoria is sadly missed
This is the first time I've seen what is essentially a comedy series from around this time other than Chaplin but that's mainly films.. This is pretty historic.
Amazed that both girls are 15 years old, they sure look fully grown for that age. They are about as tall as the fellows. I love how when any occasion to cause trouble presents itself the duo are right on it and nothing gets in their way
You were considered a full-grown, legal Adult by age 16 in the Edwardian Era: they expected you to be married by age 18 and already starting a family back then.
Both girls born 1895. Chrissy white, the lighter haired one lived all the way to 1989
Must’ve been so strange for her. His youth was literally a complete different world than her later years.
My Great Aunt would have been 8 years old at the time of this film. I’m lucky enough to have some photos of her which show her with the same style of clothes and hairstyle with ringlets similar to Tilly and her companion.
During this time, they were the ones considered hi-tech. Thanks for this, I could feel that I am a time traveler.
Awesome to see pre-WW I come vividly alive! As for the quality of the writing & acting... well, it's awesome to see pre-WW I come vividly alive!
Motion pictures! Constant movement, running, bicycles, show off the new technology. Beautiful restoration.
The household elements were very interesting. I note that the carpets appeared threadbare. They didn't cover the space and was a tripping hazard. Must have been expensive, relatively to other home decor. On the other hand this was just a movie made in a studio.
Like stepping into a time warp
These videos have a very dreamlike quality to them. Wonderful to watch before bed.
This is great; thanks for putting this up, good restoration job & some color tint👏
How beautiful these types of videos from more than 100 years ago seem to me, I have been watching these types of videos and movies for years. Without a doubt, the camera became images in time, you record people who have died in life so that years later, other people like them will look at them.
is that a young Stan Laurel towards the end around 7 min 10 secs in the final scene? I love the past, even outside looked idyllic, autumn or winter but pleasant milky sunshine and peaceful interesting street scene
Better then any of today's Television 6:00 I liked the way she waved to the camera.......life is indeed too short
Ahhh a silent movie, with so much going on and been loud 😂
Simply wonderful!!
Is it just me or do these films have a Victorian Benny Hill feel to them?
This is truly amazing...and... at 4:27 the map in the background is clearly covered with a large sheet of what looks like cellophane? That's a big piece... and this must be one of the earliest examples of the stuff. Celluloid maybe? Or some other compound, but it's definitely not glass as it gets really distorted in the scuffle.
I love the was Tilly tries to excuse herself after
crashing the bike 🚴 into the group
That one guy seemed to be way too old for that girl!
The woody Allen of the day
LMAO... get a life.
I know! Everyone talks about how endearing this film is, and while it's cool to see footage from this era historically, I was more so creeped out by the fact that a middle-aged looking man was pursuing a teenage girl. Gross.
Beautiful culture beautiful people before their land got invaded 💞
Well said. We'll get it back, before long
more Tilly please!
Set your playback speed to .75 to make it look more natural.
Both were 15 at the time, according to their bios at least. My grandfather was 11.
That shows us that our great great grandmothers were as crazy as our great great grandsisters.
not first time they jumped on the handle bars.
Benny Hill eat your heart out. I wonder whether my grandparents ever viewed Tilly and Sally’s madcap antics.
One of the young ladies bears a striking resemblance to Liz "The Human Hand Grenade" Truss!
Seeing what the popular culture consumed is a valuable insight in there wants and sentiments at that time
Those naughty, naughty girls!
PARABENS MEU AMIGO , ESSAS IMAGENS SÃO MUITO LINDAS, ADOREI,.
All I know is that if I had to wear church clothes and no crocs 100% of my life, I’d be miserable.
Thank you! That was choice!
Those were some naughty girls! 👀 As Gomer would say, "Shame, shame, shame!"
These two chic's are out of control.
No Botox no fake eyelashes no extensions
You tell me no one was really injured in all that lovely mayhem?
Image stabilization would help here.
I love this 💘 A look at how rich Victorians lived.A fun movie.🤭
Mean Girls 1910
Better than Last Jedi
for 8 millionth the cost
The men are way too old for them! It’s creepy! However, I realize this would have been normal at the time
Matthew Sweet in his great book calls them the teenage anarchists of Walton on Thames
Was this colorized by computers or was it colorized back in 1910 by painstakingly painting each frame?
Wow
nice
Those were the good old days!
Such shocking, wild behavior of innocent young girls! Why was this video not banned? (It would be banned in Texas today.)
Oh come on…. You haven’t been to Texas have you? There are more porn shops than anywhere I’ve seen.
It would be a good idea to lip read what they are saying and bring the cast to life again..... just my opinion
They don't make them like that any more.😊👍
Oh! Those wild Edwardian girls.
Good.
You luring us in again with the thumbnail @Nineteenth Century Videos. Back to life. ? 😉👀🤭
Están muy bonitas las chicas
Scott is preparing to go to the s. Pole
Next time when your gramma says that you must have a good behaviour, as she had when she was young, remember this video.
Why is this channel called nineteenth century videos? 1910 was in the twentieth century, as was all of the Edwardian period. 1910 marked the end of the reign of King Edward VII and the commencement of the reign of his son, George V.
My Nan was 10 at this time
Tilly, you so crazy.
How long did it take a woman to get ready back then? It had to been exhausting 😓
Not be an idiot here haha.... this was a part of a film I would assume?
Though it's weird to see the technology and how expressive they and to be given there was no sound.
I feel like we hadn't changed THAT much in all honesty looking back.....
Sure there's CLEAR differences.... then again.... they're just people 🤷♂️
People being people.... no matter there era
Edward VI was definitely XX Century.
Top larks
Some people think they were all stupid, No one in the stone age or iron age Considered themselves Dumb, They were on the cutting edge in their time..
The year I was born.
👍
those two are more charming than laurel and hardy !
👍👍👍👍👍👍
This can’t be modern! It would have cost a ton of money to stage such a period production. And who says a woman of this time can’t say the word “shit”, if that is what she said.
😂
MAYHEM !!
🤣👏👏👏
They’re Edwardian if this was made before May 6. That day George V became king.
Quite remarkable. May well have inspired the 1966 Czechoslovakian surrealist comedy-drama film 'Daisies' ruclips.net/video/zm9Gh8Fpy0c/видео.html
The coloring movie from 100 years ago make this movie seems not different from 1960s era movie
It's so interesting that back then this kind of behavior from girls would make categorize them as "tomboys". Nowadays this is just seen as girls wanting to have a little bit of mischievous fun.
Edwardian Girls Do Dallas.
People living happier and relaxed backthen, beside more poverty
What the hell was all that nonsense? 😂😂 This is defiantly British, maybe the start of all that slapstick comedy that we do in the UK.
Conclusion: Teenagers ALWAYS gonna be annoying lmao
Erm..arent they a little young for those beaus??
considering the time, probably not
Midshipmen could be as young as 13-14, still the girls are too young to be interested in boys.
you have no idea about girls.....
In 0.75 speed seems little better. 0.9 would be even bettee
