Ollie well said, I was genuinely worried the entirety of the game, even when we were 53 points up because I know Richmond has legs and they can out run us......I would put it down to having the 2 byes and being a bit too rested, as well as Richmond thought they were just going to go in and win easily. Collingwood really surprised you guys. When you guys got within 21 points I thought you guys had sealed the game, I thought we ran too hard too early and you guys were going to whittle us down.....but we held our nerve and got the W. Thanks man, well played and congrats on a great season regardless of the end result. You'll be back next year for sure.

That's because the last half dozen grand finals have included an interstate team who played like two games at the mcg all year and had a home prelim, then they proceed to crumble in front of the one sided crowd on grand final day. Praying for a Melbourne win today so that doesn't happen this year.

2:27 As long as I live, I will never forget this moment from the game. The Tigers had been on top for most of the year. I had just started getting into AFL and I ended up placing my loyalty to a chance at the Pies. Then Mason Cox, a star player from my country, did this magnificent speckie soaring through the air. The Magpies went on to win that game which knocked the Tigers out of the 2018 Grand Final. From that day on, I knew I was both a Collingwood fan & a Footy fan. Even when the Pies did go on to lose the Grand Final, the game was certainly closer then the 2019 Grand Final gave us. I owe it to the 2018 AFL Season to get me invested in this magnificent sport. This is the end of my short story. Peace ✌!

Collingwood r not the greatest team in afl but they r getting stronger and they can sometimes play really well against tough teams. I go for Geelong.

One of my absolute favourite games as a Pies fan. Cox was just absolutely everywhere and unmatched. You could tell that with all we were doing well, having Cox play this well was the final piece of the puzzle to really get us over the line in tough games. Hope he can find anywhere near this kind of form again.

I still remember being at my local pub watching this and everyone was going crazy once Collingwood won, half the venue was Tigers/Pies but such an amazing atmosphere, what a game!!!
No point in making excuses. We played terribly tonight. Huge credit to the Pies, they stood up when they needed to and have a good chance of winning the granny next week. Lets hope we'll be back bigger and better next year. I would like to see more interstate wins in 2019 too!

I am not shocked. Both times we lost to richmond we were down 2 or 3 players during the game and only lost it in the last quarter when we had no legs. We gain cox, treloar, de goey and goldsack, plus no injuries during the game and we win
Man that Mason Cox guy is brilliant. Like, scarily good. At least I think he is. I'm a Brit who has just recently discovered Aussie Rules and I'm still learning how the sport works etc but from what I could tell, he was on fire!
This honestly is a fun sport to watch. Shame I can't watch it on TV over here...
Yeah this was Cox's best game, he hasn't been as good as this in 2019 but he's still been a solid part of our team.
Been a Collinwood fan since 1986 and Magpie Insider since 2010. Nathan Buckley's perseverance (which he has instilled in his team like DNA) , combined with his vision of where the AFL is going, is amazing. I'm glad that the club retained faith in him, and can't wait to see how they step up versus West Coat in the Grand Final.

A lot of people forget just how good a coach that Nathan Buckley really was. I am writing this comment just a little over a month short of the beginning of the 2023 season. Since this 2018 final Geelong have gone at least as far as the Preliminary Final in every season, made the Grand Final twice, and won the 2022 premiership. Chris Scott has coached Geelong throughout that period, and has been a very successful coach throughout his coaching tenure at Geelong. Buckley started coaching Collingwood in 2012, just one year after Chris Scott first started coaching Geelong. I cannot understand why Collingwood got rid of Nathan Buckley as their coach. Not only did he get them to within a goal of winning the 2018 premiership, but he's been the only coach during Chris Scott's entire time as Geelong's coach to have won more head to head matches against Chris Scott than what he lost.
Even after winning the grand final last year, it still hurts watching these highlights
What a proud moment watching big Coxy do what he did tonight. The doubters who wanted him out and our coach, what now?

From what I’ve seen the past year and a half from the boys has been enough to satisfy me. Last night lacked the effort and the hunger I’ve been seeing from this team in recent times. It was a heartbreaking performance to say the least, but I’m sure glad that they get this opportunity to learn from this huge loss. One game does not define who we are and how we want to play and there is no doubt in my mind that the boys won’t stop believing next year in 2019. Hopefully they can get back up on their feet and continue their success. I will forever bleed yellow and black. 💛🖤

@@jude305 Lmfao Hawthorn's 3peat has a fair few asterisks next to it. Wouldn't have even happened if Gold Coast and GWS weren't sucking all the good talent out of every single draft around that time. Had it super easy by playing 3 interstate teams (that didn't even put up a fight) at the MCG. Were lucky to even be in those Grand Finals as they had the umps push them over the line in those close preliminary finals. For a 3peat, it was a dogshit 3peat. Lions 3peat was much better
Although my heart was absolutely broken the following week, no one can take away this famous victory from us! It was bloody good to stop Richmond going back2back, hope we go one step further next year ⚫️⚪️
Looking back, watching this final is one of my happiest memories
I know it wasn't in the Highlights but it should have been... " USA USA!!" Collingwood played their best game of Footy there. We didn't go in as the favourites, but came out victorious. I'm so proud of what we did in the Preliminary Finals, and the Grand Final. I know it wasn't the outcome we wanted but we tried our very best and gave it our very best but the Eagles just gave a bit more. Good on them they deserved it and won fair and square. We will be back at it in 2019, Go the Mighty Magpie⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️

As a Richmond supporter, I actually love watching this. We may have not won that year's flag, but it set everything in motion for our dynasty run whilst Collingwood and Cox haven't done anything remotely noteworthy since this win. Thank you for humbling us and allowing us to experience success.

Cox played one the best quarters I have ever seen. He was unstoppable. Unfortunately, he just never went on with it which is a shame as I thought he was going to be the next big thing
The reason why this game is so good is that it showcases the talents of the Maggies. Collingwood isn't just a one or two man team, everyone player can play to their best, day in day out. CARN THE PIES!

I thought Richmond had it for sure, but Collingwood just kept coming, Mason Cox just kept on getting those big marks, it was great to watch. Story time: I was at the Melbourne Storm game, I was busy watching that as it was action packed, Slater's last game, massive moment......anyway, my friend turns to me and says Collingwood are up by 30~ points, I thought he said Richmond......."No, Collingwood are winning" I didn't get too excited just yet.......some time had passed, "Collingwood are up by 40~ points" I was thinking how is this possible, still didn't want to get too excited, you never know what might happen.......3 quater time "Collingwood are still up by 34 points" on the outside I was quiet, on the inside I was screaming, so happy......I got to watch the final minute, was bloody great......what an unbelievable night. Pies and Storm both win.

I am Richmond supporter and have been a member for half my life. I am disappointed in the outcome but calling the team chockers is not fair to how Collingwood played. Both teams are system based games style and play very similarly but Collingwood play 10x better. I will not be going for Collingwood in the grand final but good luck.
