Bjorn, you deserve a medal for these 1000km challenge. Seriously, you do more for car tests than ANY magazine or TV shows. Kudos to you.
And Bjorn makes real tests
And he does not fake them like the dinosaur magazines.
@@AriesT1 and tv shows.xD
I agree but one thing he should make his videos a little shorter bcz we waste to much time in one test
For anyone considering to buy this car and wanting to know how it handles long distances, remember there are a few of very important factors that influence range: speed, temperature and climbs. I did some journeys on the new Zoe and I could average around 160 Wh/km with three people + baggages and AC (at 30°C outside temp). You can do this by doing around 110 in flat terrain and 85-95 on climbs depending on how steep they are. It's not the fastest but I feel it's the best compromise between speed and low number of charging stops.
Thank you for doing this 1000 km trips, it gives many people an feeling for the EV's! Have a save roads!
It's the same as TV 's in the 30's ... ^^
Nothing to worry about .
Bjorn,
I love your posts.
I was a single dad with 3 daughters for about 25 years doing lots of service calls all over Queensland in Australia.
I had to drive very quickly and thru intolerable weather at times and try to get home base every time.
I can only wonder at how helpful your data and sage insights will be for people to know when they get into trouble no matter if they drive an electric or fossil.
I think your are such a really good human being to put so much effort into this mate.
Very best regards,
Tom.
Complete accord with you Tom!

hahaha i discovered your channel a few weeks ago and im watching every video, i love it
I just love the countdown! Nein, nein, nein, nein. I laugh every time 😆
When you got the Peugeot or the corsa, could you do a comparison of charging, range, price, speed, delivery time, overall opinion of the zoe, corsa, kona, model 3?
@@casperhansen826 Tesla is from another dimension, but then between eCorsa and Zoe, I believe eCorsa will be much much much better
Ok, but remember eCorsa and e208 will charge maximum at 11kW at normal chargers...Zoe at 22 and here in Italy most of chargers are normal ones...
@Stephan3799 yes...in fact for my business I can buy i think EVERY electric car...but the Twizy😆😆😆. For the holidays' roadtrip i think I can use my Leon TDI ST

OK and Q8 was two different companys that merged. OK was first IC (Inköpscentral) then merged with OK and became OK. OK was a company owned by its members.(cooperative). Q8 was a company who was owned by Kuwaits goverment. Yes you are correct Q8 is a play on words in english. Q8 an OK struggled on the swedish market so they merged to get stronger and they became Swedens largest gasoline company in the early 2000.
Awesome history lesson
We own an Ioniq28 and a Zoe 135, it's amazing how thirsty the Zoe is compared to the Ioniq, especially on the "Autobahn" and in Winter.
I think, I would not buy the Zoe again, since besides the high consumption and slow charging, it also has no adaptive cruise control and not even the driverseat height is adjustable.
It's my wifes car and she likes it, for it matches her expectations and needs.
Thank you Björn, I like your work!
The ZOE is made for the city or small trips, and for that it's perfect, it has great range and a good price. Keep up the good work Bjorn.
Good price?! Wtf, it's like 40.000 euros with decent options!
@@peter130476 you can find Zoe 50 Intens used for around 20k, with the battery
@@arthemis1039 And in which universe is 20k for a USED city car a good price?
As others have mentioned, can’t wait to see how the Peugeot e-208 will do. Seems very similar to the ZOE but with 100kW charging and liquid battery cooling.
Pegeot is having a lot of problems, and the Zoe has more range, it's cheaper and more confortable than the 208.
Bryan M. Do you have examples of the problems?
@@DarcersTech No, I just know that the production was stopped because of some problems.
Bryan M. That’s fair. Doesn’t mean that cars delivered to consumers will have problems though.
@@gery4870 to all, I've tested a e208. The charge time on a DC50 from 44% to 95% was 1h40 !! I stopped there because it's like it would never end. The Zoe does better on an AC22kW.
Get your hands on E Corsa, E 208, E 2008.
Still like the Zoe 😍
Yes it is a perfect car car for the city or small trips
I have a Renault Zoe GT Line on a bargain 2 year personal lease whilst I wait for Tesla Berlin to be completed. The Zoe is a great small car but 70 mph is thirsty, 60 mph (100 km/hr) is better. I don't drive more than a round trip of 60 miles. The problem I have is that I find it's acceleration very addictive. The Zoe starts to bombard you with loads of messages once you drop below 10% battery. I am enjoying driving the Zoe which I first drove back in 2012. I will be joining the queue for either the new small hatchback Tesla or a Model 3 at the end of July 2022.
You only have 2.5 in the tires man! You should have closer to 3.0 bar in order for more even wear and better (lighter?) roll. That color on the car is a beauty.
2.5 bar is probably what is stated in the car's manual. 3 is too much for that size car and tire, however I'm not sure in case of heavy EV.
I keep my Zoe at 2.75 bar / 38psi. At 3 bar it will aquaplane.
@@graycrow My Zoe ZE50 manual says 2.8 bar for every tire.
Thank you sir for what you are doing, you are helping people take smart decisions with info that not many are posting on the internet.
When are you testing the Model S LR Raven for the 1000 km challenge? Excited to see which is fastest: MS or M3
I don't care what the fox says. I only listen to wolves and vikings!
Winter has been very strange this year here as well. 10c in January is hot.
I am allergic to doing Mukbang, I'd end up being embarrassed by sudden need of type 3c. Watching others is ok.
This Zoe is a great choice. Not as quick on the challenge but still a good EV. Especially on Ionity with 40 kW wave.
Felt a top gear vibe when you paused and said it doesn't charge that fast. Captain Slow. Buggy chargers suck
OKQ8 - a result of a merger between Swedish "OK", petrol stations and Kuwait Petroleum where OK stands for OljeKonsumenterna (oil consumers)
Nice video of this adventure! I think that you should drop your speed to 100 km/u in a car like this. You will gain many kilometers on a battery charge and the time you may loose by going 'slow', you'll save certainly 1 to 2 stops because you haven't got to recharge as much.
The stops don't take much extra time. And it actually pays off to go at 120-130 km/h because the car charges consistenly at 45 kW.
Thank you for doing these tests with the different cars and taking as much data as you do it. I am interested in how the different cars compare when they are used on the same route all the time. I remember watching a video where the guy was saying how if electric cars had a 2 speed transmission like what ICE cars have it would make them more efficient as they would have more mechanical advantage when driven at high speed
You should have a rate that divides the hour by the vehicle cost so we get a value for each car
Thanks again for the informative and entertaining video, Björn! in the overall results Excel, it would be interesting to see how many charging stops were needed for each car to cover the 1000 km. (or indeed totals for driving time & charging time)
It's a weird winter over here on Southern Vancouver Island, British Columbia Canada as well. Warmer than usual. Good for EVs. Hopefully that won't translate to fires in the summer. Thanks for the video.
It's to be expected. Climate change in medium latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere mostly results in higher winter temperatures. Summer temperatures have not increased as much. That said, one winter is weather and not climate.
Bjørn, when you said that the 82% you used gave 41.5 kWh and that would make it nowhere near 52kWh usable, that calculation shows that the 100% would roughly be around 51.8kWh, as 1% would be 0.51. So it appears in this test the Zoe did actually have a usable 52kWh capacity
Nope, watch the video again. ruclips.net/video/ZdNkGC89AxQ/видео.html
Its going to be interesting testing the Cybertruck that does 800Km on a single charge - you'll only need to charge once and if you can plug into a 250+KW charger towards 10% capacity - it'll only need something like 10 minutes of charge - before you are on the road again!
I struggle to believe we'll get the Cybertruck, looking like it did at the press launch, on actual roads. Particularly in Europe. It's massive and seems built to mince pedestrians. Pretty sure it'll seem like quite a different thing in reality.
the Zoé makes u eat more food and spend more money while stopping in everycorner waiting for the charge :))
Having to hold the CCS during handshake is sketchy lol that would drive me nuts
You have to do it on e-tron, Kona, e-Niro, I-pace and EQC as well.
@@bjornnyland The CP pin is in a very low position. The moisture/haze causes this problem. Or you take a WD40 always with you.
Renault took "handshake" literally :P
On CCS the handshake is done over the big DC pins. The CP pin just carries a 1kHz wave with a 5% duty cycle to indicate DC charging to the car.
Your german is just too funny😂
But how many hour would it take in summer conditions? We gonna drive more than 2000 km one way from Germany to Albania this summer. What is the best speed for Zoe ?
Keep in mind there is mostly AC charghers in Balkan. So maybe Zoe have some advantages there.
Owning the first Edition of Zoe with 22kW charger, I like almost everything about the second Edition of Zoe, except for the 50kW CCS - why not 100kW that is allegedly to be found in direct competitors e-208 & Corsa? That at least in theory would make long distance trips less painful.
"people expect 100 kw in 2023" , the only thing is that this power duration lasts only a few moments to descend under the value shown on the charger after the battery hits 40 % ...
So the average charge speed is faster on the zoe as it hits 43 kw from 0 to 65 % of the battery charged ...
Hi there! I find your 1000 km challenge very useful and I'm really looking forward to the next. As I live in Denmark where car prizes are outrageous and as I'm just a poor songwriter wanting the best for our environment, I'd love to see how a cheaper electric car like SEAT Mii performes in the challenge 🙏
jeg vil stadig gå efter en zoe
your videos are so genuine keep posting please I really enjoy watching them
Could you do a "control" run of your 1000 km challenge with an ICE car? Having that in the table would provide a good point of reference for context of current ICE users looking to switch to EV.
Hi, I can share mine here: I am driving 1300km trips 2x per year with an old, but comfy petrol car and I usually did it in 14-16hours. Most of the routes are highways (98% 120-130kmh).We are two drivers and changing every 2-3hours with 15-30mins breaks. I know that it's not a super car, but in case we want to compare, It is a good example to understand, that moderns EVs (from top of the Bjorn's list) are no more limitation in terms of "loosing time by charging", because even if ICE don't needs to be "charged" every 200-300km, driver (drivers) needs a break of 15-30mins every 2-3h, because to drive an ICE is such a tiring and noisy job!
@@pilotko5899 Oh shut up, seriously break of 30 minutes every 3h because driving is a tiring job?
Who can afford that much time? When I drive I usually drive for 5-7 hours straight...seriously people stop repeating such bull,
@@jakubmike5657 sorry, Jakub, but it's reality, not bullshits. Don't want to judge you, but if you are doing 7h without stop its not dangerous only for you, but for others as well.
The M3 SR+ has more or less the same batterie size... 😱
You can't compare a Zoe with a M3. Here in Italy it starts at 25k + battery lease, 34k with the battery. It's 15k less, almost half the price.
Hey Björn, will you do a 1.000 Km challange on a BMW i3 ?
I reccon, it will perform quite well even against the newer Modells...
watching his own livestream to check the charging status. Awesome! :D
Thanks for the interesting video. What I don't understand is that you had more range than I do with my ZE50 R135. Currently it is 4 °C and with 100% it gives a range of 210 km. In your video I saw a range of 280 km with 99% battery and 3 °C.
Hi Bjørn, could you kindly make 1000km challenge with old TMS suffering from CHARGE#GATE? I own such a car. It is terrible, like step back from the future
I am curious to see how the MGZSEV will perform. Looking forward to February ?!
Me too. Pick mine up next week. Although from what I've seen from other UK users it gets very low charging speeds when cold.
There does seem to have been an issue with an update to address timed charging. The car wouldn't wake in the night to take advantage of lower cost electricity. Since the update users have been getting around 30kw peak charging on rapids.
Might just be coincidence, happening along side colder weather but for a car that's supposed to be able to reach 80kw peak it's quite disappointing.
The most interesting comparison would be a 1000km challenge with a Peugeot e-208
I would like to see the callange with the new e-up. Since it has a bigger battery now and a lower consumtion than the e-Golf, it should be faster.
2,4€ for orange juice?!?!?
in germany its about 0,9€
At 34:40 the SR+ is only 30 minutes slower than the LR. The Zoë is much slower , so I can see why so many guys are doing the Tesla stretch to upgrade to the Model 3. 🤔
When are you take 1000km test on Jaguar I-pace?
Will we see the e-up 1000km challenge? Can it beat the e-Golf? 😉
Can the 2020 e-up with CCS beat the e-Golf?
@@fjalics I thing, yes it can and after all these hours or better say days, months of testing by Bjorn I start to really motivate myself to do it with eUp or škoda citigo-e just for joke ;)

The statue in Tanum is inspired by the pre-historical rock graving just down the road!
Also, can people still just unplug you in Tanum (or switch the charging to another cable, thinking both can work together)?
1:26 the 52 kWh battery is 99% full and that gives a range of 280 km?? That's appalling!
Edit: 3:57 Ah I get it. You're hammering it.
Heroic testing Bjorn!
As a swede i would say we are a bit hippocratic. We say safety is number one priority, we make the safest cars, have the safest environment and no one should die on swedish roads ("zero vision"). And still the 110km/h limit is more just like guidelines, there is really no speed limit ;)
33:19 🤣🤣🤣🤣 *how cool is that!* 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can not anymore. 😅😂🤣 puh, krass💪👍
Hi Bjørn
Why do you use North oriented navigation and not heading oriented? It not make sense to me.

Wow... I think the cold was pushed towards Canada! It has been -30 to -40 here for a week!
Hello Bjorn, the ZOE has an indication of the charging power. In the speedometer display, under driving data, the lowest display with amps, volts and revolutions. the ampere shows the charging power when charging!
Greetings from Germany.
Bumaus100 Not in mine ...seems to be country specific. Greetings from Austria.
As soon as you can get your hands on the new Peugeot e-208, please do the 1000km challenge ! ^^
My opnion is that you drove too fast with the Zoe, you had to drive max. 110-115 kmh and then had to charge only 4 times (of course longer per charge). The Zoe is too inefficient at high speeds. But further on is a very well usable EV! The weather was very bad too. Try to do again in summer.
Nope, here is why:
If going at 100 km/h, consumption would be around 160 Wh/km. If going at 120 km/h, consumption was 225 Wh/km. Diff is 65 Wh/km. If driving a 120 km leg at 120 km/h, you spend exactly 1 hour. If driving at 100 km/h, you spend 1h12min. The faster driving guy gets to charge 12 minutes longer. In 12 minutes, at 45 kW, you get 9 kWh. The slow guy saved only 65 Wh/km * 120 km = 7.8 kWh
Driving at 120 km/h vs 100 km/h will get you to your destination faster.
Great job, very useful information, thank you! Do the e-niro and kona have the same time? Have you tested the MG?
Lol, I just love this guys reviews.. profanity and all, it’s great haha.
Avoid stations with only one charger: you are fully right!
Looking forward to your 1000km Ioniq FL trip.
Wonder if anyone got some information on why some newer cars need to charge slower. Related to minimization of cobalt used in those cell designs and only Tesla manages to charge such "smaller" batteries, as in SR+, really fast?
there is issue with bms in these first ze 50 models. I allso could get only 42 kWh out from the pack. I complained to Renault and they updated the bms. After that i could get 52 kWh out from the pack. Maby Renault tries to protect their packs and deliberately nerfs the battery. 42 kWh is pretty much 80 % from the full pack.
I bought used 2020 ZOE50 with 12kkm two weeks ago and it has the same issue. My dealer made some updates but CanZee still shows 42kWh.
Bjorn great video! Test the Peugeot e208 to compare is it's better than this or not. Looking forward to see 1000 challenge with e208.
Intersting to know what it weighs when its emply...!
Great Video,😀

Looks like charging speed has not increased only popularity of CCS charging has.

“Junk food for the win! Yes!”
31:20 In Hungary you have to play like Bjorn with the CCS if you want a correct charging session in some places. (BMW i3 60Ah BEV)
Hard to understand this, because the contacts are clean both sides.
It feels like the CCS plug goes in far too easy to have good contact in general.
Whenever I work out my range and consumption on my ZE40 it always comes out at 41kwh usable battery. Very confused by your findings.
You didn't drive from 100 % to almost 0 %? Looking at estimated GoM range and consumption is *not* the way to do it...
@@bjornnyland All I know is that whenever I've done a journey of around 160 miles (257km) the consumption and remaining GOM figure (about 30 miles) are consistent with 41 kwh. In the summer (I typically get 190 miles range (305 km) at consumption of about 4.6 miles per kwh). I haven't done full to empty but I assume the 30 miles left on the GOM is reasonably accurate after 160 miles from full. I believe Renault claim a usable 52 kwh on the ZE50. Are you saying that the GOM range and consumption figures are way off on my display? (I'll happily accept they could be 10% out but more would surprise me).
Weird winter? Maybe climate change eh.....
Hi Björn. About heating while you're charging, you simply press the button on the key to heat. Cheers Nick.
Not available anymore in ZE50.
Only on the ZE40 and also only with the doors locked (from inside or outside, did not matter). I am still trying to figure out the possible workarounds, it needs for sure a software upgrade.
Interesting, the ZOE has similar charging speed to the Ampera e. Only the Ampera e can take up to 54kw and is already 4 years old.....
Do you have any plans for a 1000km run on the MG ZS EV? Would be great to watch!
it shows 41kWt because it's kind of cold, around 3 degrees C. Ideal conditions should be 20-25 C.
That's bad.
Greetings from Canada 🍁 and enjoying your vlog on the Zoey EV.
The temperature in my town is currently -36 C which means EV driving range will be significantly affected. Then there's drain on the battery pack with the heater on at full and the longer distances between cities (and charging stations). Factor in the higher initial cost of EVs, the long charging times, the adverse effect of cold weather, the potential bottlenecks at charging stations, the unsuitability for long trips and the purchase equation still doesn't add up....here's to the next generation of EVs with improved battery technology.
Agree... ~70km/h of effective average speed with a stop every 100km is appalling. I'm in the market for a new car and was undecided between a Sandero or Clio with the 100HP LPG engine, or the Zoe. The Zoe is significantly more expensive (especially than the Sandero), and based on what I'm seeing it's not only 50% slower, but also more expensive to operate.
Guess I'm gonna have to pass and stick with the liquified dinosaur gas option for another decade.
Humm... you're missing an important point in the table at 34:40 to my mind. You should add an extra column with the price!
Doesn´t really look promissing... I had so many hopes in the Zoe. Do you think they will bring a 100kw charging update (or even adaptive CC) ota?
Thats almost impossible...
Definitely not OTA (Motor and inverter Firmware are not accessible without direct cable access, for safety reason). Maybe if they work out that it’s not damaging the battery, a dealer software update; but highly unlikely. ACC not likely, there are more expensive cars (eg Mercedes a class) that still don’t have it.
@@euruproktos1278 Hmm, great point. For fast charging you need to be in optimal temp range and with only air cooling you can only limit higher temp. But what about pre-conditioning etc... Well on the bright side, Zoe`s battery should last pretty long :)
You are right about Q8, it's another way to write Kuwait, which is pronounced kʊˈweɪt.
A thought: if you drive within speed limit, you will spend less kW, and less time for charging. Which could save time at the end. Or?
Anyhow: thanks for publish the tour, it is very interresting! :-)

Bjørn, are you shure they lend you the Z.E.50 and not the Z.E.40 instead? There are people in Germany who drove 240 at 140km/h.
41,5kWh would be the right number for the Z.E.40.
I did three measurements and they all resulted in 42 kWh.
@@bjornnyland Interesting. Our ZE40 consistently shows around 36-38kWh usable (according to CanZE), depending on pack temperature. I wonder if a little more than 42kWh would be available in summer?
Watched the vid now Björn. Strange about the AC. At the e-car expo they told me this new one can infact run heat and that its been fixed. Well that sux. So im looking at the new e-up or the Skoda citigo or Renault Zoe. The Renault is much more expensive though. I have a Renault 41kwh today... What would you have choosen Björn? I kind of like the E-up....
Would you say the I3 120Ah will fare better than the new Zoe considering charging speeds, and efficiency? You say in the video the charging speed of the Zoe is low even by 2017 standards. Maybe make a medium-range (500km or so) race between the two?
Bjorn, were did you find 43kw AC in Germany?
Standard at AC is either 11kw or 22kw - sometimes less.
Hi Bjorn, will you be testing the e208 soon ? I tested one and was dissapointed with charging time, far from what is announced by Peugeot. The Zoe and it's 22kW or 50kW do better.
I’m surprised how slow it was. Couldn’t it do more than 140km approx between charges? Thought would be able to do fine with that size battery from full as you started around 200-220km at that temperature (120-140miles). Was that first stop really needed? And it seems that you were taking your time... maybe due to slower charging I guess?
Zoe at those speeds is very inefficient. I actually think this trip would be done faster bye traveling closer to 100km/t or just below just because of the increased range
But lower speed you can skip some charges. Irl could be same time.
The problem with Sweden is that most charging places only have 1 charger..... except for Ionity of course.
Jeez. That Zoë is a bastard to charge in every way.
I forgot about past me, now I actually own one 😅
