How do you think a collage like this would turn out if flannel was used instead of batting? I'm thinking it might make the corners a little less puffy. I'm working on my first Laura Heine quilt.

Is it necessary to have the original canvas on it? I can get the used canvases for pretty cheap, and would not want the ugly artwork originally on it. And…you could see the backside fabric.
