Subscibed as soon as I saw you were doing Yes the greatest band that has graced this planet. Enjoyed your chat. Get their live symphonoc 2001 from Amsterdam they do the whole of CTTE and other classic Yes songs.
I was at this gig and it was awesome. The band played for nearly three hours, including a 20 minute acoustic set. No sign of them slowing down. It felt like there were ten musicians on stage. Rick always said that this line up was greater than the sum of its parts.
I have enjoyed this song, arranged, many ways live, this version seems to be the most gentle approach to this song that I’ve ever seen them do. It almost felt slow. The small instruments that one of you spotted that look like symbols are called crotales. they have a sound like chimes or bells. They are most prominently used in the song awaken, which in my opinion is the most beautiful song written in my lifetime.
I’ve not miss Yes in concert in Dallas since ‘75. For many years, many…they opened with this song. It followed Firebird Suite. Yes fans got massive goosebumps when Firebird came on, and it was a dream for the next two plus hours. PLAY GATES OF DELIRIUM LIVE FROM 74(?) I’ve seen many reactors do it without blocking problems. TY for doing this. ☮️❤️
Exactly 50 years ago tonight, December 2, 1974, I was listening to this when Yes performed at the Houston Astrodome. One of the best concerts of my life.
This is the first song they played at my very first concert (Tormado). Had been listening to Yes since 1973, but mom wouldn't let me go to concerts when I was in high school. Yes in the Round in Philadelphia.
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth 🙏🎶 Siberian Khatru opened the majority of their shows. Yours Is No Disgrace is a song dedicated to the war vets. Its always best imho to listen to the album versions first with YES to get their initial idea. Having seen YES 36 times they are far better live, trust me its spiritual.
My favorite too, Top favorite of all time. Saw them live about that time in Brussels and it blew me away. Especially Siberian Khatru. I mean, this line-up!!! That concert hall in Brussels is literally ball shaped and the acoustics were amazing.
I saw them perform this a number of times the last being in 2002 and yes most of the early enthusiasm in the groups presentation has waned, thats what at that time was 32 years will sure wear on you, Yes toured continually 😊 thanks now do yourselves a favor watch YeSSongs😊😊
Buy the best copy of the studio version you can find of Close to the Edge album, smoke a doobie and then give it a proper listen: It starts out you are walking through the woods down a path with birds a twitter, slowly the diddle-dee, diddle-dee starts faint then grows louder - that sound is all the micro reflections of light dancing on a fast flowing creek. It gets to it's loudest as you get to the edge of the creek and you are captivated by the dazzling sunlight sparkles coming off the turbulent water. You drop down to your knees and stare into it, then whoosh! your spirit plunges into the water and flows off with it - coming up only for air when you hear Jon Anderson sing "Ahh!" and then later "Ahh ah ah uh!" Ok, so thats the beginning. It's not totally programmatic. Like all great art it is impressionistic and conjures at times different spaces and sights. Like for example when the creek takes you into an underground section of it's flow and becomes a slow flat water placid drift down stream. You are at this point sitting motionless in a small row boat alone, seeing the drops of water drip as they have done for eons ker-plop down from stalactites into the water with synthesizer sounds, at which point the church organ makes it's slow staccato 2 note entrance echoing around the vast reflective ceiling. Then Jon Anderson sings "In her white lace" and you slowly turn your head to the bank of this underground river and see a woman in a statuesque motionless stance - and so that goes as you gently and silently float by her. The church organ then becomes all mightly and powerful resounding through the vast caverns and then - Lastly the water is back outside above ground to become the tumbling creek again as you are propelled forward, ever onwards until coming up to the end of the song and the bottom drops out from below you - and you (your first person perspective) spirit shoots out into the air from the top of the water fall, out far into the atmosphere as you look down at a very vast landscape representing all existences and times as you hear Jon proclaim loudly singing "Seasons will pass you by,,, I get up, I get downnnnn" as all journeys through time and space are indeed experienced by all living creatures, and then...........the original sound of the diddle-dee diddle-dee of the reflections on the water come back to you as you wakeup from this dream you've had since it started 18 minutes ago. The sound of the water and it's reflections slowly recede as you walk back up the path away from the creek through the woods with the same birds chirping as before and you walk home. This record, all 3 songs, is the one time when symphonic structure and rock truly merged to form a masterpiece that will be recognized as such 300 years from now. There is not one bad note in the entire album.. I used to lie on the floor between the speakers when listening to it. It's not house cleaning music or party music. It is made for listening. Many thanks to Eddie Offord for stitching this all together. He definitely was the George Martin 5th Beatle in this endeavor.
Lethargic performance, but given their age, it's not surprising. I love Yes for their energy as much as their compositions and playing, and this doesn't cut the mustard. The San Luis Obispo concert in 1996 was the last time I ever heard them play live at the right tempo.
It's always wonderful to see a live version but this particular one is not the best. If you want to see what this song sounds like today, look to Jon Anderson soloing with a group called The Band Geeks. He has been touring with them since last year (2023) and my oh my, the fresh energy they bring along with Jon's older but still incredible vocals is very reminiscent of YES from back in the day. I know some audience videos have been uploaded. I'm not sure if any "official" videos are forthcoming. 💚
I was wondering how you guys came to this reaction. YES came along with Jethro Tull, ELP, Rush and so many other PROG Rock bands in 70's & 80's! But choosing this as a first reaction, as opposed to Close To The Edge, or You And I, or any of the other earlier albums! Hmmm...!
It was really a matter of trying to find a track from their classic period that had been video'd in a reasonable quality for today's audiences :) We're always trying to find video to go with the performances. Unfortunately there's not much from their heyday - and a lot of that gets blocked. We tried to do a track off the Yes album and it was instantly blocked.
the yessongs version from 73 is of course far more up tempo and fantastic. They were in their 20's then and no pro tools or gimmicks existed. just pure talent. No other band could touch YES for musicianship at that point. Not even King Crimson
This is good, but this version is a bit slow and lacking energy. Purists may not like them but live performances from the Union tour are quite exhilarating. Try Heart of the Sunrise and Yours is no Disgrace.
YES!!! Nobody does it better in the studio or live than the greatest band there ever was or ever will be!🤩
👑🎶
@@lesblatnyak5947Hi Les 🎉
One of the GREAT ALBUMS OF ALL TIME PERIOD. Of all genres.

It's not my favorite version, but this is one of my favorite tracks from Yes. Close to the Edge is a masterpiece album. Thanks for sharing!
Tope 3 lol
The Yessongs DVD is great!
Hey guys In The Presence of from 2001. Yes Magnification the last great YES album with Jon and Chris. another long Masterpiece with a live orchestra.
Exactly 50 years ago tonight, December 2, 1974, I was listening to this when Yes performed at the Houston Astrodome. One of the best concerts of my life.
Extraordinary band full of musical mastery.
Best...band...ever.
This is the first song they played at my very first concert (Tormado). Had been listening to Yes since 1973, but mom wouldn't let me go to concerts when I was in high school. Yes in the Round in Philadelphia.
Rest well Chris and Alan. Jam on!!!

Well Edge and You And I do pretty well in the live symphonic versions
My favorite too, Top favorite of all time. Saw them live about that time in Brussels and it blew me away. Especially Siberian Khatru. I mean, this line-up!!! That concert hall in Brussels is literally ball shaped and the acoustics were amazing.
check out the 2001 symphonic live videos.....excellent

I know that song well and the speed was a bit fast for that particular song , actually improves the song .

This looks like it's much later in the bands career. Missing some of their fire I think..

Check out Yessongs Movie for cool live from 75, I think.
Yes please
the yessongs version from 73 is of course far more up tempo and fantastic. They were in their 20's then and no pro tools or gimmicks existed. just pure talent. No other band could touch YES for musicianship at that point. Not even King Crimson
Jon was 29, and he turns 80 this year
Try Awaken!!!
I think the studio version would have come off better -- this one's tempo drags.
This is good, but this version is a bit slow and lacking energy. Purists may not like them but live performances from the Union tour are quite exhilarating. Try Heart of the Sunrise and Yours is no Disgrace.
