I've said it before: If Feige wanted to do Eternals, it should have been a streaming series. The ten characters of the ensemble would have been given the time to have their personalities fleshed out more effectively. The Deviants could have received better depth and motives as well. They could have been more than animated globs of green vomit. A feature film just doesn't have enough time to accommodate such a large cast. Of course, if it had been made into a streaming series, it would have to compete with other series using the "dysfunctional super family" concept like The Boys, Umbrella Academy, and Invincible. Eternals is missed potential, that's my two cents.

But they just HAD to keep things clear for hit televised productions like.
Black Falcon and the missed point.
Get the white wizard the fuck outta here, we have vaginas to promote.
Ruining the multiverse in 3 easy steps.
      And who can forget.
What If the writing was just always bad?
How could they possibly make room for a concept that has been tested time and again as actually working pretty fucking well in an episodic format if you just take the time and care it needs to function? You're a loose cannon with crazy ideas friend.

I actually like Eternals better than Black Widow, and Marvel Studio taking high risk, but I agree to someone when he said Eternals is beautiful but not a beautiful movie. Also the Celestial were the highlight of the movie, every time they show up, you feel the scale of danger especially when Arishem show up in the post credit. I hope they made a Disney + show about each character first about their adventure after they disbanded and before the team up, so you could feel their humanity and emphatize with them but I will still give the movie 7/10.

    • @Warren_Peace

Well, a large cast of main characters have been done justice before, like for example, The Lord of the Rings...
The problem mainly comes when the one trying to make this changes on important/main story elements since it creates continuity problems..
This is why I believe that if your going to "adapt" something to a movie, be it a book or comic, you should stick to what is the original creator intended, with only minor changes for things like viability and movie runtime, and try to avoid major changes in character motivations and backstory.

    • @haku8135
      @haku8135 2 года назад

@@Warren_Peace Yeah lord of the rings is like, three HOURS long, and the cast isn't really that big. Like sure there's a generous handful of characters, but there's THREE movies in the series that was based ON A BOOK that already developed the characters and because of that, we already KNOW for a fact there's gonna be two more movies. So because of that we can spend the first movie just developing the IMPORTANT characters and we can keep the other ones in the background until it's their turn. Even still, with a 3 hour run time we can give some needed character to the less important ones so they have a good foundation for the next movies.
This movie is stand alone, not as long, and has TEN characters that are all EQUALLY as important because the entire premise of the movie is there's TEN Eternals that all have the same job on the same planet with the same goal on one unified team. You can't just go "These FIVE Eternals are just, not important so we can ignore them" THEN WHY ARE THERE TEN ETERNALS, JUST MAKE IT FIVE!
See how badly this DOESN'T work? Like imagine if in the first Avengers movie Steve and Tony were the ONLY characters that had more than 5 minutes of screen time.
Doesn't work, does it? Even the VILLAIN in this movie exists for like, a couple minutes tops. The other villain isn't even a villain, he's just DOING HIS JOB which for some reason the Celestials decided the Eternals WOULD decide is bad and they can't program them to be ok with it, so they keep erasing their memories and lying to them....... This movie's a mess.

    • @Warren_Peace
      @Warren_Peace 2 года назад +1

@@haku8135 Granted, that LotR has give or take 30 minutes more run time, but to claim that the cast is "not that big" is stretching it. You got 4 Hobbits, 2 Men, 1 Elf, 1 Dwarf, and 1 Maia in the Fellowship alone. Even if we discount the next 2 sequels in LotR, the Fellowship of the Ring got a solid build up for its casts, complete with character arcs and motivations, heck this is even true with other secondary characters including all the antagonists. Any of the LotR film can literally stand on itself even without the other 2, that is how good it was.
The Eternals are based on a COMIC BOOK, so they are also fully fleshed out characters with plenty of lore to base it on and since this is the MCU, we also know there are going to be more movies after this. So by your own reasoning, they could literally develop IMPORTANT characters on exactly the same manner. In fact, they did exactly that with the earlier MCU phases.
The Eternals movie is NOT a stand alone. It was never intended to be, since it was made as a part of the MCU Cinematic Universe. So your subsequent reasons of "lacking time" or how "halving the cast" is not an option is, by all intents and purposes, irrelevant.
As for how the BBEG(Big Bad Evil Guy) was portrayed in the Eternals movie, again they should have taken their cue in LotR. Heck, it was literally only a "Burning Eye" on top of a tall tower, and it imposed more personality than the Celestial or even Icarus.

The Eternals in the comics is a tough cast and story to follow because it is so freaking complex. But it's also pretty cool if you know it. Adapting them to the big screen from scratch was going to be tricky to begin with, but it's made more so when they seem to have fundamentally changed who and what they are from the source material. For example, they're not aliens from another planet. They're native to Earth....they've always been here. Hence their name. And Makkari isn't deaf. She lost her speech, hearing, and powers because of something she did. But then got everything back during resurrection. (By the way, in the comics Hawkeye IS deaf. So they could have done the whole "first disabled superhero" thing a lot sooner.) And there are things that SHOULD tie them into the MCU and what has come before. They should be tied to one very important character in particular....but it seems like they changed that relationship as well.
I get that the MCU and the comics is different and they have to change things to be able to condense it into a 2 hour movie or whatever. But the changes they did make, I don't understand why. Did they really think they could create comic characters better than Jack Kirby?

    • @dontgiveinfo

IT's ok to be different. It's another thing to be 20+ movies in and dropping stink bombs. Then they should have built them first. Maybe they should have sprinkled them in, in the last 4 marvel movies. Well, i ain't no MCU major studio head, but....well, representation, am i right?

Hawkeye is only deaf in ONE ear. Turns out that's what happens when you, you know, get stabbed in the ear with an arrow shaft. Not a fun time for Clint.
Still, they should've just put THIS on Disney+ as an episodic series. Such a large cast and so much history to cover, it makes way more sense than trying to cram it into 2 fucking hours. It'd probably break less than Loki did at the very least.

Kirby meant them to exist outside of the Marvel Universe, because he knew their existence made no sense in a world where there are ACTUAL GODS walking around, and where people can get superpowers from a bug bite. But Marvel wouldn't have it, and inserted them into their shared universe in the pages of the Mighty Thor, of all places.
Marvel has never known what to do with them because they fit like a square peg in a round hole, leading to them never getting involved in any major events, which in turn leads readers to not care about them.
And since Feige's phylosophy is to follow the comics as closely as he can, the exact same thing is happening in the MCU

As soon a ''multiverse'' shows up, I am kinda done with it. Chrono Trigger, a game I used to play and like as a kid already had time travel paradoxes and stuff in it. As a child it was hard to follow and even now as an adult it is. However, this whole multiverse concept should have been a very small thing that was happening here and there, but it got so much blown out of proportion that things are now starting to not make sense anymore. Things happen just because it can and has no value of why it is happening. Just accept it and move on is pretty much what these Marvel movies are saying to everyone. Especially when a diversity thing is involved, the viewer just has to accept it and move on without questioning it. This movie might be fun for a child to watch because, it's a super hero movie but as an adult or fan of Marvel, all it will do is making you question what the hell this was all about.
Like, if the Earth was so important to these so called ''Eternals'' then why haven't they never shown up to protect Earth to other threats that could have potentially destroyed Earth many, many times before? Answer: Because it wasn't a Celestial that was doing it...so here you go, some reason and now off you go!

Pardon my pun, but making the speedster deaf was tone deaf as a coherent story telling device. Without spoiling the overall plot of the film, given what is at first stated about the Eternals and their mission, juxtaposed to what we as the audience later learn is their TRUE purpose, you have to ask yourself in either case....WHY would you create a DEAF speedster? Given what they're' here to do and accomplish on earth why send a supposed God-like being to a planet with a defect that would impair their ability to assist their allies when they say....run miles in seconds and put a monumental sized gap between them and anyone else?
At what point would you not take a step back and realize the implications towards how this character would function in the story's plot? They need to openly communicate in times of battle but the speedster were to run off on her own putting literal miles between her and the rest of the Eternals how does she end up communicating with them in times of danger or great need? The story even has a point at where this kinda comes up and all the deaf speedster can do is give this painfully funny shriek and all it did was completely kill the seriousness of the moment. The entire film seems to have diversity for the sake of diversity giving ZERO thought to the story and it shows. Not even mainstream critics could give this film a pass. The movie has literally become the check box meme. Just go down the list checking boxes on diversity and inclusion, who gives a shit to the actual story or characterization of the Eternals themselves? Do they fill our quota??? Good! On to the next story beat! This film deserves all the failure in the world.

They just wanted diversity whether it made sense or not. In this case, the diversity was the direct cause of it NOT making sense. Why would the Celestials create an Eternal with a disability like that, which presumably they could easily fix, especially when this would directly impact how effective she would be in the field? When moving at super speed, one would need to be hyper aware of their surroundings, right? It's a lot harder to do that when you can't hear. It just makes no sense.

Like I said, that was partially by design. They were setting up a twist in the story that, unfortunately, wasn't all that surprising anyway.

Maybe the Celestials were on a bathroom break when they made her? Yeah, I don't know. It doesn't make sense. Too bad because I actually liked the actress who played the character.

Why wasn't this a series? Bizarre creative choice to make it a movie.

  • @RedRaikou

They should have just made a tv series about them, each episode would be about a different character and once that was done and we knew each of them individually maybe then they could do a movie, where they all tackle something together, basically how the beginning of the MCU was: Ironman, Hulk, Ironman 2, Thor, Captain America and then Avengers, except instead of being a movie for each character, just do a episode of a tv series...

That's how I've been saying that Disney's handling of Star Wars probably ought to have been done from the start. Instead of diving right into a trilogy movie project set decades later and skipping over all the context of what happened in between, start with some smaller projects to establish some lore and worldbuilding first before leading into a bigger project later. A number of different shows and one-off movies could have gradually introduced us to some new characters and established a timeline of events following after the original movies. Each project could have had its own distinct perspective focus (the early days of the New Republic, the power grabs of Imperial remnants like the "First Order", the rise and fall of Luke's new Jedi order, and other perspectives like some powerhouse in the criminal underworld or whoever else). And then eventually when a bigger project has many of the characters that were introduced in those small projects all crossing paths we would have cared more about those characters.
I've seen people criticize the idea, saying that we shouldn't want everything trying to emulate Marvel's formula. And that's fine. But I still think that for Star Wars it would have worked better than what they actually gave us. If we still would have ended up getting something like The Mandalorian amid those smaller projects, it would have fit in quite nicely as part of that kind of worldbuilding effort. Granted, the approach could produce some duds as well. Maybe we still would have gotten something like the idiotic trash heap that is the Resistance cartoon series, for example.
      ...
Anyway, yeah, I haven't seen the Eternals but it sounds like Disney overlooked what made the MCU's massive ensemble cast work in the first place and jumped straight to the team-up movie with this entirely new (as far as 99% of the MCU's audience knows) cast of characters instead of taking their time to build them all up properly.

Ohh I’ve been waiting for this review ever since the first trailer dropped earlier this year!
Edit: after seeing all the trailers and promos, Makkari (that’s the deaf speedster) seemed to be my favourite character too! Though I am a little biased since super speed is my favourite power.

Aight, but hear me out: due to the curvature of the Earth and the Law of Angular Momentum a super-speedster should go flying uncontrollably into the air provided they didn't reach planetary escape velocity first. Also they'd really fuck up everything they stepped on - the Flash's feet hit the ground at basically the speed of light thousands of times a second, the forces involved would turn pavement into a cloud of rapidly expanding Alpha Particles.

@@the_inquisitive_inquisitor that’s actually seems true! Super speed is incomprehensibly OP which is why every fictional franchise invents it’s own rules for super speed because as you say, realistically, it seems Impossible. Flash literally said in the justice league flashpoint animated movie that the speed force allows him to break the laws of physics although I’m not sure if that is the case for the movies. Though I’m not sure if that is the case for Makkari even though her top speed is the speed of sound.

The actress did a lot with very little. That the Celestials would create a deaf Eternal in the first place really didn't make sense, but the actress was charming enough that I went along with it. I wish they'd done more with her.
