As you can see from the video, I have a few harps! What is your smallest harp? I decided it would be handy to arrange some pieces specifically for my little 19-string cardboard harp. Since the G below middle C is my lowest string I arranged all of the tunes in G Major. But the cardboard harp has no levers!?! No problem, just tune your F strings to F sharp. Easy peasy. Hope you are inspired to get out your teeny tiny harp and try these tunes.
Hello, Anne. I wanted to suggest/request another tune: Wild Mountain Thyme. I love that one and it would be so nice to have a simple, yet beautiful arrangement. Thanks.
I would absolutely love more arrangements for cardboard harps. My smallest is a 22 string, but the lowest string, like the Waring, is the G below middle C
Thank you, Paula. I have a little Christmas collections called Chord Town Christmas. It includes 8 traditional carols with melody and chord symbols so you can easily create arrangements for your small harp. musicdiscoveries.shop/products/chord-town-christmas
Anne, I so often play this lovely collection that I wanted to thank you again. The pieces work well together and - since I don’t have levers on my medieval harp - it’s nice that they’re all in the same key. Please consider writing another set of pieces for 19 strings - perhaps lullabies, traditional folk tunes, Celtic dances, or your own beautiful and relaxing compositions. I would particularly like an arrangement of “Danny Boy” that was playable on 19 strings.
Last month I bought a lovely little 20 string Blevins harp, and this collection was the first I played upon it. Thank you very, very much for writing beautiful music for smaller lap harps. Even the simplest pieces sound enchanting!
This video is very interesting you play the pieces at a speed that they can be learned by ear, you've done a good job , thank you for.sharing sharing you talent.❣️😎
I don't know how I came to miss this one. I'm a whistle player and know most of these tunes, I've just spent a wonderful hour playing along with you. Thank you for posting this it's beautiful.
Anne, you have now made an honest man of me - I ordered a Waring harp months ago, painted the soundboard, finished the wood, but have yet to clear-coat it and string it - I shall do so this weekend! =]
I think I will buy this sheet music because it is nice and simple (which I need even though my harp is 30 strings) and because I like the timing and phrasing of these arrangements….
Wow! I can’t get over how beautiful the tone on that little harp is! My smallest harp (Dusty Ravenna) has 26 strings, so 19 strings certainly would be a challenge, but you make it look effortless with your wonderful arrangements! Take Care Anne👍🎵🎶
Yes, 19 strings is a bit of a puzzle. I originally had it tuned to C Major, but I found the melodies often sat too high or too low to make the harp sound its best. I remember the first time someone suggested that I retune the Fs to F sharp, that had never occured to me! Makes all the difference! Next project is a bundle of arrangements for 26 strings.
Just read your post about this arragnment. " My first instinct was to tune this harp to C major because of course there are no levers. But when I started working out tunes they often were too high or too low to highlight the harp's best sound." --------- Totally agree with you. I've been searched small harp video on youtube, most of them feel a bit too high for me and don't deliver the gentle feeling very well. Your arrangement really bring out harps best sound. :) I play piano and always hoping to transfer some of my fav pieces to the instrument that has a smaller range of keys. Also was thinking of how to modify your 25 strings music sheet to play on my 22 string harps (when the key is limited :) ) Your post is really inspiring :) Would be excited to see more of your process(or a tutorial) on how to "force our big harp repertoire onto our small harps" .
Thank you so much. I really did try to arrange these pieces in way that highlighted what this little harp does best. I let the harp tell me what it would like to play :)
Stunning, beautiful video! I love the arrangements and the choices of songs. We must have similar taste because I have arrangements for some of these songs coming up in the next few months 😆 Either way, I’ll certainly be recommending these arrangements especially for those with very small harps. So thoughtful to share lovely arrangements for small harps ❤️
Once again you inspired me with your beautiful & simply arranged pieces....thank you so much, I'm going to go back through my Sylvia Woods, teach yourself, harp book. There are many lovely little tunes in it! My smallest harp is a 28 string Dusty String harp.
Amazing what you can do on a little harp like that, Anne! Thanks so much for this lovely collection - can't wait to learn the pieces! Thanks for doing Eleanor Plunkett too!!
It's a handy little set that can keep you busy for while by adding repeats, segues and variations. I've still got Eleanor Plunkett on my mind for an intermediate arrangement!
I built my own from scratch from recycled old maple table top. I named him Vincent He has 26 strings lovely voice...I also have an outdoor foundry and cast hm some brass lion's type feet from a pattern I used from table legs...
Thanks for sharing - I don't suppose you'd be able to recommend some 19-string harps? I have my 'main harp' already, but a more casual and portable one would be nice too
It's amazing how lovely the little harp sounds when you play! I just began learning the harp in December and practice every day. I would love to play a therapy harp as musical therapy some day, if I am able to learn well enough. I know I have a long way to go, but do you have any suggestions as to what steps I can take now, even as a beginner, to set this up as a viable goal for the future? I'm going to be 67 this summer so I'm wanting to make good use of my time. :) I love all of your beautiful arrangements and have learned a few.
Isn't it a surprise how a cardboard harp can sound so sweet? My hints for you are to do a good job learning how to place your fingers well, that's the secret to fluency! And learn how to read lead sheets so your left hand has the ability to play with patterns.
These songs are all so beautiful. Thank you for arranging them for small harp! I just ordered an 22 string harp and was a bit worried what to play on it. This def help a lot :). Do you happen to arrange songs for 22 string harp? Thank you again ❤️
You're welcome! So glad these are useful for you. I often do arrangements for 25 strings (down to the bass C), actually I'm releasing a set of easy hymn tune arrangements for lap harp soon.
I can't get over how beautiful these simple arrangements sound on this little harp! Of course, you playing them is a huge part of that! :) My smallest harp is a Stoney End double-strung Brea, with 22 strings on each side. The harp I play at work all the time is a Marini 26 string Lap Harp. Needless to say, I will be heading right over to your sight to purchase these! Thank you for this lovely video!
Yes, I added a few embellishments to my little cardboard harp. On the blue part I added paintable wooden decorations. I also glued on some silver butterfly ornaments here and there. You can have lots of fun making it your own!
Funny! Apparently not, when I play my "Crosby" setlist in ForScore it takes me about 2 hours! Hmm, I should go do that at the park and earn some coffee money!
Hi! - I am getting one of Waring's Double-Strung harps, just like the one you have above (except it's a double- duh!) in order to learn some Double Strung techniques, while my wood double strung is being constructed, which could be up to a year from now. Ever consider doing some arranging for a small Double? :-) P.S. Where did you get the dragonfly? I'd put that on my harp...
@@annecrosbygaudetmusic Yes, it is indeed. However, I am still a beginner and I wish, I woudl play more advanced. I have had harp lessons for three years but had to stop three years ago because of financial reasons. Now, I forgot nearly everything except for finger technique.
Hello Anne, I have a 22 String fireside harp. I want to learn some pieces. Are these harps only for beginner pieces or ar also more advanced pieces available? I don't intend to buy a bigger harp for more advanced pieces. That's why I am asking.
Over in my shop you can apply a search filter for small harps and I have a nice selection of pieces at various levels. Have a look: musicdiscoveries.shop/collections/small-harp-19-bass-g
Hi Janice, I had to watch the video to remember what I had done. I was sitting on a piano bench turned lengthwise. The little harp was just sitting in front of me on the bench. Isn't that easy? It's very easy to balance.

This came up on some sort of random RUclips shuffle and it's very relaxing. Always loved a harp.
Gotta love RUclips for giving suggestions! Glad you enjoyed it.
You truly have a gift for music and teaching. Thank you. :)
Thank you very much!

Thank you!
What a cute little harp.
When I made my Waring harp my husband said, "that harp has no business sounding that good". It is a great little "pack it up and go" harp!
Lovely collection and beautifully played.
