Peatlands - climate regulation and biodiversity

- Peatlands are habitats with a highly specialized flora and fauna. But peatlands also play an important role in global climate regulation. Peatlands cover only 3% of the land, but contain more carbon than the entire forest biomass of the world. When peatlands are drained, the hitherto well preserved carbon is released as greenhouse gas to the atmosphere. That is why it is important to keep the peatlands wet. For biodiversity conservation and for the climate.
This film is focusing on the importance of preserving and restoring peatlands and gives examples of restoration projects from the Nordic and Baltic countries.

I am currently studying Biology and I needed to find out more about peat bogs and this upload has really helped me. Thank you 😊
this is a really inspirational film showing the hope for the world that cared-for and restored peatlands can be!
Thank you for a well made and explained video, Those who are blind to the facts will ignore it, but I have seen with my own eyes for many years the damage caused by the policy of wetland drainage in the UK, We are enow slowly starting to reverse this and hopefully these amazing ecosystems can be retourned to their former glory.
Thanks very much for sharing experience and knowledge. Here in chilean Patagonia, we need to restore before is too late
Thanks for this.
Thank for informasian..sukses
I learned a lot, thank you.
Awesome
We have peatlands here in our delta as well…..and serious question here pls…..can woodchips and adding organic matter over the soil help in slowing down peat oxidization?
what about peatland forest fires do they cause climate change?
The largest Peatland is in Congo Basin Africa.
Looks like a great place to hunt!! LOL
Can’t the various governments seize these wetland for management the peat the people and the earth forever??
