If you put a silk scarf over your head and face when pulling a sweater over you head, it will slip on easily and you won’t get makeup or hair products on it.
Psa: contrary to popular belief, viscose IS a natural material! It's cellulose pulled into super long fibers, which gives it the same characteristics as silk. It won't keep you super warm, but it will be very soft and absorbent
Yeah, but it's important to make sure the producer is up to safety standards. Exposure to the fumes during manufacturing can cause what's known as "viscose madness," and it's not pretty.
The wool itself is not the problem (sheep's wool is nearly identical to human hair and you are not getting rashes from having long hair, are you?). The real issue are chemicals used in wool processing/manufacture (mill-spun wool/commercial yarn is treated with a list of harsh chemicals to look and feel they way it does). Using commercial detergents makes the situation even worse. Choose rustic, hand-spun woollen yarns and wash them in washing soda+ soap flakes in the 1st wash and vinegar solution in the last wash.
Very late reply, but wool has such a tendency to be scratchy that your best bet is to cut it with another fiber. 40% is typically the maximum recommended wool content for anything that touches your skin (I have a skirt that's 40% wool and I love it because I'm essentially wearing a woolen blanket around my waist)
I only exclusively shop secondhand as well. Despite living in the Deep South and in an extremely hot and humid climate. these tips for the upcoming winter in January and February will help out tremendously.
A tip in case your sweater is pilling; you can easily shave the pills off with an electric pill remover. This will make your sweater look brand new! And Ialways find the shaving process extremely satisfying 😁
I think sheer can look good in a sweater! But it has to be done right. And its not that great for COLD weather. . . . As a knitter though I'm kinda biased lol, I LOVE the diaphanous raglan by Jessie Maed Designs 🥰
saw this after buying a 30% polyester sweater cause thought it was so cute and i couldnt hold myself back, after knowing its bad. it was $80 so ig not that bad
This was from a Sezane post on their blends, right? Because some are itchy and some are less so. I would still recommend not going with a blend, because every synthetic fiber traps your body heat and makes temperature regulation impossible: you get too hot quickly and won't cool down again in a synthetic fabric (as opposed to natural wool fibers). Most of the cute stuff from Sezane is an itchy blend though, which is why influencers sometimes recommend them regardless. 😅
thrift stores are your friend :) i think a nice aspect of 100% wool is that they often need less washing! poly blends get stinky real fast, but wool is very smell resistant
@@Robin-rk2hf with how popular thrift stores have gotten, I doubt I can still find something like that that's both quality, the right fit and style for me😕
I shop almost exclusively secondhand and your tips, hints and tricks really help me out when assessing the quality of items 😊
there's nothing better than making my own sweaters using crochet, you're always 100% sure about what you're making and what material is it

This is so helpful, thanks!
Thank you for helping me make so much better choices when it comes to shopping for clothes.
Recommendations for soft wool? All wools that I’ve found seem to be extremely itchy/scratchy and give me rashes

@@amethyst_cat9532 what fabric is the other 60% ?
merino! though for many wools they do also soften up after buying
a wool cotton blend can also feel a lot softer

Yes, I only wear wool or cotton sweaters!! At one point, I had a Uniqlo cardigan in almost every color 😂

Become a knitter! You’ll spend twice as much but have way more fun in the process.
I don’t mind pilling bc I use that shaver and I actually like using it

But didn’t you say that polyamide is okay? Should we give it a pass when it’s a wool + polyamide blend? 🤔

@@isabelw.5666 Thanks!
I don't know what it is, but I cannot wear thick clothes like sweaters...ever! Even in the winter!
Is polyester bad aswell? (in sweaters)
Now you care about microplastics? Great! Does this mean that you'll stop promoting polyester?
