As an 18 year old who recently got a BAB Isabelle from Animal Crossing just a few days ago, the heart ceremony is still my favorite thing to do when I go to Build a Bear Workshop. ❤️

This is exactly the type of guy I want to be working when I build a bear.

Creepy. That "heart" is an RFID chip that now has your child's DNA all over it. The strange part is how they insist on doing the rubbing and the kissing every time. Usually they run the forehead as well. It seems like a cute little added touch to the whole creating your own stuffed animal experience but it has a hint of underlying malice if you pay attention.

Who cares? The heart goes inside the animal that they take home.

What? The hearts are just fluff and fabric

You are, and I cannot stress this enough, a supremely fucked up individual.

Okay, dunno if you'll see this, but that's... not how RFID works.
Okay, so there's two kinds of RFID chip, Active and Passive. An Active chip is powered by a battery, a Passive chip is powered by the radio waves that are interrogating it (asking it questions). In either case, *neither type of RFID chip has any sort of sensor that picks up anything other than radio waves.* Even if there were now an RFID chip in the Heart, no matter how much you rub it on anything it won't be able to get your child's DNA.
What RFID chips *do* do, is store information, especially small bits of information. That's why RFID is used in things like credit cards or tagged pharmaceuticals or chipped pets or Amiibo figures- those RFID chips are storing information (an account number and bank number, a patient's name, the address of the home that the animal belongs to, the Smash Bros amiibo fighter data).
With that in mind, given that if there's an RFID chip in a bear there's no real purpose to having it be rubbed on a kid since the RFID chip can't read DNA, why exactly would Build-A-Bear implement a Heart Ceremony specifically to get RFID chips into bears? Can't you just... put them in the bear skin?
The thing is, 25% of Build-A-Bear is the actual plushie you get, and 75% of Build-A-Bear is the experience. You're paying to have a fun time building this bear with your kid- and that's why they put fun little tidbits like the Heart Ceremony in.

Hi! just to ease your worry, I am a bear builder at Build A Bear Workshop and I can tell you for a fact the hearts are not microchipped and its just a fun way to bring your furry friend to "life". The hearts are just fabric and stuffing. The heart ceremony (which is the rubbing and kissing part) is meant for you to bond with your furry friend and create a special connection that'll last forever. Lastly we also always insist on doing the heart ceremony because our job is to create an amazing experience for you. (Its also mandatory for us to do it and will be getting a talk from our managers) But on a happier note just try to have fun and go along with it, we are just trying to do our job; which is to make you happy.
