About Taylor:
It has been a wild ride for singer/songwriter, Taylor McCall. Taylor has recorded a full length studio album Southern Heat (2017) as well as an EP (2019), in 2020 released single “Quartermaster” which has earned over 200K streams. This year he rolled in the year with “The Hounds”, which you can find on various playlists like Indigo and New Music Nashville and has been featured on Emerging Americana. Taylor McCall has worked with some of Nashville’s finest musicians, producers, engineers and studios, including the legendary Sound Emporium. He has shot a video for “Jericho Rose” and played some of the best venues in the industry, including the coveted “Sunday Spotlight” at the world famous Bluebird Café. McCall grew up always loving music and listening to the rock bands of his day, but over time he has grown to be inspired by artists like Sturgill Simpson, Ry Cooder and Pops Staples. At the age of 8 Taylor got his first guitar and began crafting songs. “Even though I was writing songs that I thought were pretty good, I was reluctant to play them for anyone because I was not very confident in my voice”. In fact, Taylor did not sing live until he was 18-years old. We are glad he did because throughout the industry his vocals have been recognized as “a once in a generation type voice”. Taylor has finished an album produced by Sean McConnell which will be released on Thirty Tigers later this year.

Lyrics:
Hell’s half acre
It’s a deep dark hole
Can’t do nothin’ to save my soul
You can’t buy forgiveness
For what I’ve done
Only thing left here
Is to run run run
So I turn on the gas, strike up a match,
Jump in the car and drive away fast
Leaving nothing but fire on the blacktop
Voodoo blue
White smoke rising in my rearview
Got the hounds on my heels
Blood in my tracks
And once you go to Hell boy you can’t come back
Hit Louisiana
Found an old bayou
Tossed out the hammer and these old work boots
I’m gonna shave my face
I’m gonna ditch my car
I’m gonna roll down my sleeves
Cover up these scars
When I close my eyes I still hear the screaming
Every night wide awake still dreaming bout
Fire on the blacktop
Voodoo blue
White smoke rising in my rearview
Got the hounds on my heels
Blood in my tracks
Once you go to hell boy you can’t come back
Got ghosts in my closet
Your skeleton in my head
Both want to haunt me
Until i’m dead oh but i could ride out west
Hop an old freight train
To the end of the line and never be the same
Everywhere I go it’s the same old thing
I see the Devil staring back at me
(written by Taylor McCall, Dave Pahanish, Josh Singleton)

I just heard Taylor on the MeatEater Podcast. I’m a big fan now. Love his style!
The MeatEater guys are great! Glad you made it here!
Great tune by Taylor but I really thought it was the band Kaleo when I first heard it..All in all it's a great song..
First heard of Taylor last night when he opened for Wheeler Walker Jr in Kansas City, just him on electric guitar and a drummer. Really dig his bluesy style!
Just discovered this guy….

I would really like an acoustic version released like you played on meateater. Just you and your guitar. Perfect.
That opened my ears to him. That acoustic version was perfect.

I liked this tune.. feeling hopeless here.. people working with cops.. and talking about killing peiple.. that's cops getting away with what they've done. I can't believeit... but thx for the tunes..
There’s ppl killing each other everyday brother.. cops are the least of our problems. Stay aware
I heard this guy once tried to write a bad song on purpose...
He failed.
