The burning chruch sequence will always be an iconic moment in any KR franchise.
Ryuki, Agito, and now Kuuga. Early Heisei has these creepy scary vibes that the Neo heisei doesn't have anymore.
Heisei phase 2 becoming more and more silly and slapstick comedy are thanks to parents organization in japan who keep protesting the violence element
avoid boring same repeat model story, no problem for this, oneday it can start again.
@@pauloliver3129 Heisei phase 2 exists because of rather conservative Japanese parents being embarrassed and at times offended by the J-Drama/Dorama like violence.
Phase 2 is actually more for the younger side of the shonen crowd as well as older Kodomomuke, while modern Super Sentai is for the preschool side of Kodomomuke.

wouldn't exactly call it drama. Practically all side storylines are linked to the main henshin plot and intended to provoke thinking on society problems. Kuuga is actually edited in a documentary way. Best show ever.

Godai is someone who wants to protect other's smile. That's his dream, and that's the hero we need. Godai and Kuuga will always inspire people to do good and be a better person.
Even after all these years, I still feel like Kuuga is the best Kamen Rider. The first and second episodes captures the feeling of the series entirely. The story is timeless as well and embodies what KR could truly be

@@theepicdude1019 No, Godai will never come back. The actor thinks negatively of Toku, which I honestly can't blame him. My headcanon is that the Kuugas we see in movies and stuff is Decade's Kuuga, and Godai never needed to fight/transform ever again, hence why we don't see him. After the ending of Kuuga, that is about the best ending I can think of for him

I kept coming back just to appreciate this scene. That shot with the sunshine feels very... early heisei. So calming and weirdly nostalgic.
Did anyone think of Ichijo as a secondary Rider but just doesn't transform into one? He just seems to have that "I am a KR" vibe yet badass enough without being one. Imagine him wearing that G3 armor.

early Heisei felt more like full on j-dramas with fight scenes sprinkled in compared to later seasons which are more like live action shonen anime

This has been one of my first KR shows and I’ve been equating it to something like Dr. Who. It’s ridiculous, low-budget, mostly self-serious, and it all somehow just works. I really dig the vibe, whatever it is. Like Tokusatsu X-Files.
Kuga and Agito to me feel like they directly inspired Garo to a certain extent with the serious tone and the camera work.

nothing could replace Kuuga in my heart as best kamen rider and series. the "watch my henshin!" part alone is enough reason as why. today kamen riders may rich on special effects but the feelings of the hero struggle during the fight has long gone

It's really strange to look at how progressive Kuuga was compared to everything that came after it.
It had a lot "normal" women in it, who were not trying to act like live-action Anime girls,
and it had a foreigner in the main cast, who was written like a normal character and NOT for
laughs and giggles. In fact, I don't think his nationality was ever brought up once.
Kuuga was going for realism. This is basically the effect.

Thanks to the well-paved story Which started with transforming but couldn't do anything , Helping others , Self sacrifice , Seeing people's tears at funerals , All of them led to the his first transformation.
The transformations that gradually emerged, the limbs and finally the face with the music played at that time. Everything is as perfect and grand as announcing that kamen rider is back!!

After the Showa Era Motorbike battle between Kamen Rider Black and Birgenia, Kuuga's BeatChaser and the Grongi bike battle was the Heisei's answer.
Since everyone is talking about the iconic church fight scene, here's a fun fact: the actual name of the church is Maria chapel mariveil kashiwa in kashiwa chiba. It was a wedding chapel and supposedly the largest in japan.

This is my favorite Rider series. It has my favorite main protagonist, main supporting character, and I just love how it builds from one event/encounter to the next.

I really love Yuusuke Godai character. He has pure love for humanity, always want to making smile for everyone. He is a true great hero in Heisei era, not like another Riders who acting he was cool, selfish, not interested at fight, and so many piece of sh*t of reason.

the eerie atmosphere of early heisei KR can't be matched at all. it is just soo good.
Amazons came close, but it also has to do with the filming style. Early Heisei KR had this raw look to it that cannot be copied unless you find all the old studio equipment. Amazons was made to look eerie, but it still came off as overly polished. It is the same reason why the Showa Riders never look "right" in the modern movies. The filming techniques and visual presentation of the 70's is part of what made the Showa Riders look cool.
Marc Liljeqvist Less sparkling and obnoxious singing belts also contribute to that unique atmosphere. Nowadays Kamen Rider has become indistinguishable from Super Sentai.
I'm 42 years old and this series bring me back my young memories.

Strong disagree. "Henshin" means "transform(ation)" and always has. Maybe when it's a catchphrase I can accept it but the line here is "watch my transformation", not "watch me be Kamen Rider, the character who says 'Henshin'". Frankly the old Hong Kong dub did this better, and Shout! did it best.

Kuuga or godai yuusuke is one of the rare pure hearted good guy protagonist in entertainment media that does not feel cringy, annoying, or a garry stu, the only other one that i can think of is Zack from FF VII crisis Core.
Still the best Heisei Rider series.
I like the fact that the monster of the week (fortnight?) really feels like a threat to the human and not just goons that's need to be destroyed by the hero. In addition they even took time to explain the lore of each form and what it can do. In term of storytelling between hero and monster, this series is cut above a lot of other tokusatsu series or even any other media of the same genre.

watched No. 1, 2, V3, Riderman when I was a kid in Hong Kong, and Black/RX in early 90s. Remember I was so happy when I saw Kuuga relauch in 2000!! Kuuga remains one of my top favourites among all new gen riders!!

After watching KR V3 ep 2, I see the monster disguised as a lone priest in a church is a recurring thing.
and the 1st monster is a spider.. i think it's an homage to old KR, because Kuuga is a revival franchise after being in hiatus for so long
Even in KR Black, spiders and the bat guy were among the first monsters seen, the Bat Guy recurring like in Kuuga.

I just hope once they have two episodes up for each, they cycle through all the Kamen Rider series and keep adding episodes until it's all there. The old Kamen Rider series tend to be nigh-inaccessible legally and that way they'd at least be getting some revenue from them from the people who would otherwise have gone through the trouble of pirating it.
I also hope they do Kamen Rider Black.
I know I'd watch every episode, and be more than happy that my ad revenue went to them. Hell, I may watch it several times just because.

They go practical because of their limited budget. But that's the beauty of Kuuga series. The fight is more gritty and bloody also the cinematography is amazing. Check at 17:52. That one take shot is Iconic!

Henshin has a lot of significance as a word, making it more powerful

I missed that line the first couple of times I watched this episode.
To this day still the best KR ever. He had to learn about the transformation, each forms, weapons, the gurongi language and the history of the Kuuga warrior. Plus living in a world knowing all these monsters out there killing innocent with no remorse

In my opinion still the best kamen rider design of all time. No whacky armor, no big ass belt with billion of gadgets, no nothing.
I miss this kind of tone in Kamen Rider series
I did watch it when I was little but not all episodes since it was aired during weekdays and I can only watch it during school holidays. The director is said wanted to have an X-Files vibe to it. I never realize the brutality and body count when I start to watch again online (kissdrama).
In all honesty Kuuga was the only really one of the ones that went for this tone that got it right. They spent most the 2000's trying and failing to recapture what made Kuuga great.
Having more plot and less action actually worked really well. I never got tired of watching a fight scene in Kuuga, because it always had a nice build-up and the stakes were always high. Many episodes only had 3 minutes of action or less.
Finally... please update every week
The only solo rider in heisei era, the only one without movie ver, the main actor actually dislike Kamen Rider, the only one where the villain killing people for sport, and yet the one who save Kamen Rider franchise, if kuuga fail Kamen Rider will gone for good.

A several years back but it was during my primary school days that I first watch it. Never realize the body count can reach high numbers in one episode.
