First year at comp, what an era for music. Bands like Specials, Jam, Beat, Selector, Dexys and these groups shaped my musical life. 54 now, and still love them all. Timeless classic, thanks lads. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I was there aged 19. Mind blown completely. All these years later and you can still see what an incredible ensemble that 1981 incarnataion of Dexys were. Stunning.
The original and the best, pure energy, the brass section really got you moving and the brilliant drumming right on it, every other was just watered down and too commercial
I used to uave this on VHS as it was on the telly. Watched it loads when I was about 17 and that was well after come on Eileen was a hit. Collected every bit of vinyl for years.
Dexys first band I ever saw Summer '80 @ City hall Cork aged 14 older brother snuck me in classic gig remember playing Soul rebels LP to death 😎 seeing Dexys later this year @ Olympia theatre Dublin can't wait 😎👍 ......
Awesome - how a bloke who can't sing to save his life managed to deliver something like this is, well, simply incredible. Big Jimmy steals the show for me...
Attended the second night of the Old Vic gigs and up there with the very best performances of any band I've seen in my seventy years on earth. The intensity was incredible and I half expected Kevin Rowland to leap into the crowd and start scrapping at any moment. Saw them again a year later at the Shaftsbury Theatre and, although still a brilliant gig, Kevin was a lot more chilled and polite and the previous year's intensity was missing. ❤
Thank you,Strong Devoted for a top upload. I felt the intense passion and welcomed The New Soul Vision. (Like the brass to the fore when DMR's live rather than the fiddles.)
Show me is a favourite.. I cannot fault it.. My regret is never seeing them play.. This band were always being played.. Awesome sound.. Perfect voice... Should I say more?
Experience of a lifetime Birmingham hippodrome tucked away in my soul forever thanks for posting SD 60 THIS YEAR AHHH, Reminisce with dexys to overcome this lol
I'll never get over the hottness of this brass lineup....even though there's something flat going on here? Can't quite put my finger on it. Or is something too sharp? Spunky bastards with such stamina. Such hard work it would have been and to play with such liveliness a whole concert is amazing!
You just had to be around at that time .. fantastic .. still dance to this at the kasbah club in Perth on a sat night .. dam this lockdown im missing being a teenager again on a sat night
Yeah m8..im jam fan...saw them from brighton to southend...weller my hero...but allways had a soft spot for early dexys...loads of good music late 70s early 80s....x
When the Jam came to my little seaside town we helped the roadies lug all the gear onto the stage, we were paid a fiver each and they would not let us inside towatch the concert Paul mate.
You can see why..?? People who listen to SKA, via....2 TONE love this music also...as the brass section is tight as F#@K. ...!! Just awesome I love this band ,as well as I love ❤️ my PUNK, SKA, SOUL, NORTHERN SOUL, REGGAE, BLUBEAT, BLUES , and I still have a vinyl copy of "" SEARCHING FOR THE SOUL REBELS "" 🎷😎🍺☮️❤️☯️🌍🏴☠️🎷🎸🎺🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Theres a self titled live album of this lineup ( Dexies v1.5 ) from a tour, called The Projected Passion Review . Dexys at their absolute peak. Its my favorite Dexys record, never get tired of it.
😂😂😂 I’ve listened to this album a squillion times. I can probably understand about 40%. Especially when he’s listing Irish writers and I think Michael Rennie gets a look in too. Hopefully a reference to the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still starring Rennie, knowing Rowland. I keep persisting.

Nottingham Theatre Royal?
I am utterly jealous as F""k 😁 One of my favourite bands of all time, which there are a few.
@@peterg6677 This was Dexys Mk 2. Rowland still regrets never making an album with them.
Awesome 🙌
Tight is not the word .. uplifting and inspirational .. thank god my teenage years were spent in late 70s early 80s
I keep coming back to this ...there there my dear is off the scale brilliant
Searching for the young soul rebels is a masterpiece of musical and lyrical genius.
Best album ever!
Could not agree more. Oh wow 👏
One of the greatest bands these islands have ever produced. Totally sublime.
You’ll never see this passion in a million years.
Agree. Bands from the past lived for the soul of music. Today: lol
This performance must surely put most mainstream bands to bed. Absolutely magnificent. No other way to describe it.
I used to uave this on VHS as it was on the telly. Watched it loads when I was about 17 and that was well after come on Eileen was a hit. Collected every bit of vinyl for years.
Nothing less than brilliant. Jimmy Paterson and Paul Speare are tremendous. Dexys when they were simply the best.
Gordon R The brass section is immense. Fills my heart with joy.
Gordon R Jimmy never brought it better than this
I can only give this the thumbs up once, incredible passion and genius.
still sounds fantastic...the brass section omg awsome
I saw the Projected Passion Review when I was 20 years old - it changed my life. Thanks Kevin.
Dexys first band I ever saw Summer '80 @ City hall Cork aged 14 older brother snuck me in classic gig remember playing Soul rebels LP to death 😎 seeing Dexys later this year @ Olympia theatre Dublin can't wait 😎👍 ......
Just amazingly brilliant ! Nothing more to say.............................
Great stuff, gotta say it tears me in Tennessee to hear the British translation of soul.
Thank you so much, this is simply fantastic, for me the best incarnation of Dexys, two of their best and most powerful songs!
July 81 riots and the poxy royal wedding and this great band came out with this beauty
Awesome - how a bloke who can't sing to save his life managed to deliver something like this is, well, simply incredible. Big Jimmy steals the show for me...
That brass section is just magnificent. Wow.
This band has and will always have a special place in my head and heart. They are solely responsible for kindling my lifelong love of soul music.
Brilliant a great performance so much better than anything today!!

How i wish i could have been there to see the young soul rebles live never to be repeated
I remember taping this off of ITV I must've watched it a thousand times! By FAR my favourite iteration of Dexys.
Thank you,Strong Devoted for a top upload.
I felt the intense passion and welcomed The New Soul Vision.
(Like the brass to the fore when DMR's live rather than the fiddles.)
Fantastic. When even the coolest of music was fundamentally naff, these guys shone through the fog. Pure effort, pure brilliance.
I've got a feeling Kev worked that band very, very, hard. :-)
Got the sax mikes turned down and Jimmy turned up to make them work. You can see it. He was a conductor.
I could listen to There There all day. It's extraordinary.
He did, made the band go on 5 mile runs!! I worked with the alto sax player a few years back. Top bloke
Show me is a favourite.. I cannot fault it.. My regret is never seeing them play.. This band were always being played.. Awesome sound.. Perfect voice... Should I say more?
This is an absolute class performance from a top band from a brilliant era of music!......respect 👍

I can't believe that the audience were sat on their backsides throughout that awesome and energetic performance
Nobody could touch them at this time fantastic stuff
Que voz maravilhosa!!! Fantástico!!!
Nothing has come close to the intensity of Dexys since.
I'll never get over the hottness of this brass lineup....even though there's something flat going on here? Can't quite put my finger on it. Or is something too sharp? Spunky bastards with such stamina. Such hard work it would have been and to play with such liveliness a whole concert is amazing!
I saw them at the Old Vic London 1980 superb 💕 💕 💕 💕 💕
Not too sure about the ponytail but will forgive the man's an absolute genius
Sensational.
You just had to be around at that time .. fantastic .. still dance to this at the kasbah club in Perth on a sat night .. dam this lockdown im missing being a teenager again on a sat night
Was 15 at this concert, this was without a doubt the best time
Mint.Still have the single somewhere!!
Borne of Wigan Casino. Awesome.
My favourite out of a exemplary back catalogue there is not a bad song, but the ponytail kevin
Mics turned down to make the playing louder, Guedsing Kev kept his at the same volume. But. Fuckin' Dexys.
When music meant something.
Big Jimmy Patterson just incredible 👏 🙌

There will never be another Kevin Rowland
❤❤❤
What an underrated singer and band; And I feel like it would be different if they were more attractive men, and that’s messed up dude lol
where`s me donkey jacket
This line up should have made the 2nd LP in 81.
A tragedy this incarnation of Dexys never made an album
Theres a self titled live album of this lineup ( Dexies v1.5 ) from a tour, called The Projected Passion Review . Dexys at their absolute peak. Its my favorite Dexys record, never get tired of it.
And 1980 version 😊
All I can think of is old school parades! The marching bands were the best! This is what music should be!
I grew up listening to this band. I still have vinyl records
They were never better than this. Plus no one called John Smith had to pretend they were called Padraig O'Oirish.
Fucking sensational
All it needed was jake blues doing somersaults
Great tunes, but 40years later still can't understand a fekkin word he's singing
Adrian Mole brought me here.
Top rank Cardiff half full dance stance say no more
They were brilliant live. Shame Kevin lost the plot with subsequent sounds
Pity even now we cant understand the early days ...🙄
And I don’t believe you like Frank Sinatra
What a fucking killer line , one nil and game over inspired stuff
At the (short-lived) peak you couldn’t touch this band
Peerless
Or you could listen to Liam Gallagher.
Liam is a tosser. End of...
